Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

oh dear! I am so sorry dear. what is the incubation time on that? maybe the alcohol killed all our germs....not sure what signs to look for...

Please accept my apologies ladies if you come down with the flu...I certainly had no idea she had this; it came out of the blue last night. The incubation period varies from person to person...one day to a week. The symptoms are: fever, aches, chills, headache, coughing etc. Here is a link to a slide show from WebMD: http://www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/slideshow-swine-flu

On Saturday when I felt crummy I found my thermometer because I felt hot but I was only 96.4 so I'm assuming NOT the flu...

Ladies, I'm going to ask for prayers again.

Rie has been dating this boy who is very possessive. I've tried to maintain a balance so that I don't make him out to be the bad guy. She seemed to be hanging out more with her friends. However, he would call bunches while she was with them. They told me they were aggravated by him.

Tonight, she told me that I've been pressuring her. I will admit that I try to get her to study and do her homework. I told her that if cheering is too much with school that she could talk to her moderator and explain that she needed to quit.

She packed her bag and said that if I don't change she's leaving. What she means by me changing is that the boy wants to come over every day and I don't want him here that often. I have to say that now I have a BIG resentment against him. I told Tim that I think she wants a boyfriend, so I'm being fed to the wolves.

Rie and I had been getting along so well lately. Anyway, my heart is broken because I really don't know what I can do to be a better mom.

EEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys! CATS is coming!
:dance3::dance3::dance3:

And my mom is gonna buy us tickets!
:dance3::dance3::dance3:

I :lovestruc:love::lovestruc:love: CATS.

lori - sorry to hear ya'll are battling the sinuses. My whole family suffers with it. I've been at it with this stuffy/runny nose for the last two and a half weeks. Hope Haley is feeling better.

:flower3: and  to all the sick kids

tigerkat - how's kyle doing? need an update over here :)

Rie'smom - she's leaving, huh? Where's she going? Is her bf's mom gonna let her stay at her house? Not to make light of the situation, but having recently been that age myself, I think she's just being a little bit of a brat. She probably thinks she loves this guy, and he's probably pressuring her to be against you. Tell her to ask her friends what they think of the guy. Tell her that they will tell her the truth b/c they are her friends and they love her (as opposed to you, who I'm sure probably "hates her" and is "just trying to ruin her life." I mean, how DARE you expect her to do her homework and study? :rotfl:).

Well it is the SWINE FLU!!! :sick:They swabbed her nose and pricked her finger. They prescribed Tamiflu and lots of rest and fluids. The Dr. said she can go back on Wednesday but I think I may keep her out all this week just to be safe.

 I sure hope that she is back and going tomorrow..

Hey y'all!

Serena- I'm so sorry to hear your DD has swine flu! I hope she feels better soon.

Cara- I hope Fletcher feels better too and that it is not the swine flu!

I have to admit, I'm terrified of the swine flu hitting this house with two little ones. DS is too young to even get a flu shot this year! I'm extra leery now about taking them in public around large crowds, but we can't live in a bubble either...

I would love to do a painting next time! I really want to do one of the funky NOLA house paintings. I'll keep my eye on the October calendar and see if anything good pops up. Sheryl, I agree that it was probably not enough time to paint Oak Alley- I know I wouldn't have been able to in that short time.

So we're going to see Sesame Street Live in October. I'm forcing DH to come with us- I'm not suffering through that alone! :rotfl: DD is soooo excited about it though- I just had to take her!

Erik is doing goodand is going through another growth spurt. Seems like all he has been doing the last few days is eating and sleeping. I'm so tempted to give him some rice cereal because he seems like is starving all of the time, but I know not until 4 months. He's going through so much formula though that I bought some in bulk online to save some money.

We're having underneath our floors foam insulated next week (our house is raised on piers). I'm determined not to freeze again this winter! This old, damp and drafty house is miserable when it gets cold. The insulation guy said it was very "porous" underneath our house (meaning it has lots of gaps and cracks- I told you Katrina washed away the dirt insulating this place...) so we should save 40-60% on our electric bill- that would be nice!

I was never patient enough to wait until 4 months for rice cereal. I started all of mine around three months and they were much happier fellows...

I hope that the foam brings you a warm winter... I remember a very cold winter in our old drafty place, it was just miserable. The savings is just pure bonus.

You are a fine mom, just be careful not to let her run the show. She really is looking for boundries at this age, even though she might not be happy about it. Trust me when I say this, not giving her the firm boundries will not make her any happier. I know you love her, the thing is, she knows you love her too, and even more, where your weak spot is. Teenager/mother relationships usually are rocky. My prayers are with you to give you the strength to get though this too.

No apologies needed. I hope you passed that over here... I want it sooner and not later... Lori, I hope that it skips you and your family...

 I hope y'all's babies are feeling better today.

Thank you... Fletcher woke up feeling much better! Maybe a little too good, he is a ball of energy tonight...
Morning Y'all,

We had a nice Sunday. Went to church, then out to lunch with DD. DH & I went to a free wine tasting at World Market after.

Terry, I sort of hoping the antibiotic wasn't doing the job & it's still her ear. At least that's something treatable. Prayers that the dr can help!

PortOC, I hope Fletcher is feeling better today too!

Bethany, Love your new avatar. :thumbsup2 I'm glad you're happy down here! What about your DH, how's he feeling about the move?

Jaime, Sorry your day off sucked.

I enjoyed being with y'all, but wasn't as happy with the painting part. My picture is now sitting on the floor of the spare room facing the wall. I think it was much to difficult of a painting to do in that amount of time. I'd go again but for something much less complicated. I see the Sept calendar is pretty booked already. Did y'all know they opened one of thier franchises on the Westbank? They franchising under the name "Painting with a Twist" here's a link to thier Sept Calendar.
http://paintingwithatwist.com/calendar.php?storeID=11&month=10&year=2009

Nonsense.. your painting was good. I can't wait to do it again, and gonna have to check out this new place.

Terry, it sounds like that flu thing to me, esp if her ear was clearing up. Sorry- hope it is NOT flu and sending prayers!

Cara- hope Fletcher feels better too and no FLU.

Sheryl- I may go to one of those free Saturday classes to straighten mine up a bit. Maybe you could do the same if you are unhappy with it. But I really thought your plantantion was perfect!

Well, we are bringing Haley to the doc today. No fever, but that cough seems worse. She doesn't have it when sleeping, just when upright, so maybe she has a sinus infection? I am more nervous to bring them into a doctors office!:eek:. I am telling them not to touch anything!

My kids are so acclimated to doctors offices and comfortable that they usually ask me for gloves(as balloons) and alcohol(for a port) and those black ear thingys (they use as nails on ALL of ther fingers). I know, insurance is high b/c of US. But I figured when going to Childrens oncology dept, if they make us wait for HOURS with nothing to do, no TV, no nothing, and the things I brought them wore off, that playing with this stuff was the next best thing for entertainment.
Since all of that is behind us, I have had to hold them back from the ear thingy's. Gloves and alcohol, well, go for it. Basically, they just think everything in there can be used as a toy to occupy them! Haley, esp. Ashton has outgrown it.

Rambling and waiting to check thier math and LA.

See ya-Lori
I hope you don't have to worry about Tamiflu at all, but if you do, that you get it....

We love playing with gloves at the dr. too

EEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OOOOO Cats! I love Mr. Mistoffelees! I actually have a friend who was in Cats on West End in London. It was her first job, and it is the same one they play from time to time on PBS when they are begging for money.

:rotfl:You nailed Rie. You can see in my post below that all is well-for now.

Rie came downstairs and we talked. She got detention and was worried about telling me. Drama much? I told her to just tell me next time!

:sad2: on the detention, but :rotfl::lmao: on the "drama much?" For real. I guess on the upside, she felt bad about getting the detention and was worried about how you'd react. Detention and parental disappointment don't faze some kids; THOSE are the ones you have to worry about. So I guess she's on the right track, thanks to her good mama! :goodvibes

oh no! Now i feel terrible. My eyes are watering, getting conjested. ack!
School was rough today b/c of me feeling bad. The kids got it done but not as well as when I am guiding thier day. I haven't checked thier work so I'll be doubling up tomorrow.

Mr. Mistoffelees is one of my favorite dances from the video. I love the Rum Tum Tugger character too. He kinda reminds me of David Bowie. :rotfl:

I had the VHS pre-K. The commercial said a DVD is available now. I might need to look into that.

Welcome to the wonderful teen years.:rolleyes1 It's tough but you will get through it if you remain in control, you're a good Mom.

I really miss Tricia (GW).:sad1:

Good morning:)

Julie, you're getting some really good advice on here about TEENAGERS:scared1: We certainly have our share of drama around my house too.

Last week at Chapelle, Erica was offered to take Honors Art. She is really good and DH and I encouraged her to do it. Now, she is stressed because it is a lot of work. Of course, guess who gets the blame for "making her take it"--me of course. I told her she will be fine, we are in the first weeks of school and she will get into a routine. I hope this was the right thing to do. Sometimes I'm not so sure of myself.

Lorie, I started both of my kids on rice cereal when they were 1 month old. They were eating fruits and vegetables at 4 months old. This was all under the advice of their pediatrician. I loved when they went on the solid food. It sure helped them sleep through the night. I guess their tummies were full.

Jamie, I'm excited about the upcoming broadway series. We bought season tickets and Cats is an add on. I think we will get tickets for that one too. I am just so happy to have this back. Going to the Saenger for a broadway show has always been the ultimate treat for me. Throw in a good meal with it, and I'm in heaven:littleangel:

Morning Y'all,

It feels nice outside.

Terry, How's Aly feeling today? I hope she's improving!

Julie, I'm glad you two have talked & things have settled down. You received some great advice here. The only thing that I would add is to keep an eye on the boyfriend. It worries me to hear that he is possesive, that's a red warning flag for sure! Hugs & prayers that you make it through the teen years! I know those years were my most difficult & stressful. Girls are always full of drama!

Lori, I hope you're feeling better this morning. Take your vitamins!

Lorie, I'm glad Erik is growing & doing so well! I can tell you I followed the peditrician's advice to the letter. I breast fed, didn't give any foods until they gave the go ahead. Well my DD still ended up being an allergy prone, lactose intolerant, asthmatic child! So now I would say, trust your gut! If you think he's really hungry, give the cereal a try.

Mary, Has the rest of your house stayed flu free? I sure hope so!

I have a question, I'm a bit of a cultural illiterate. The only plays I've seen have been highschool & JPAS. Is "Cats!" suitable for kids? Chris asked me & I didn't have a clue! :confused3:upsidedow

Where is Tricia? Is she ok?

Ladies, thanks a million trillion zillion for all the words of encouragement and advice. Rie is back to her sweet self. I'll just equate the next few years with trying to balance on a surf board.

GM ladies...Aly is on the mend, the fever has broken; she is just suffering from body aches. So far Tamiflu is a wonder drug!!! :thumbsup2 I've been trying to stay virus free by washing my hands, using hand sanitizer and using lysol everywhere.

Rie came downstairs and we talked. She got detention and was worried about telling me. Drama much? I told her to just tell me next time!

Yes those girls are drama queens. ;)

oh no! Now i feel terrible. My eyes are watering, getting conjested. ack!

How are you feeling this morning? I hope it's not the flu!!!!

Stop the bus!! I noticed the ad this weekend for Cats, then Flora had me running to the Mahalia Jackson Theater website to see for myself....It's true....Broadway's back!! How did I not hear this???? Oh, I just saw Wicked is coming! It's going on the Christmas / Birthday list NOW!

Shovan, if you go to the MJ website, there's a link for each show that gives details. Cats is described as being family appropriate. This would be a super introduction to Broadway for Miss A!

I'm so happy that Aly is on the mend. Poor baby though with the body aches!

cajunmommy, how's the flyer?

Hi y'all. I think that I've boo'd everyone. If I missed somebody, please know it was a mistake. Let me know and I'll PM you right away.
If this offends anyone, I'm sorry and my feelings will deifinitely not be hurt if you choose not to add the Boo to your signature.

Yep, Aly and I saw Wicked in New York and loved it! So even though Cats is before Christmas she will receive these in a nicely wrapped box as our Mother/Daughter Christmas present. :thumbsup2

Thanks riesmom, I received the Booing.
