Memories of the DREAM come true ….. 08/09 All 30 days done!

Oh WPE is calling my name right now !!I don't have any dates for next year yet and prolly won't until next year !!Disney and Universal are definates though !!!!

Great edition, Karin! Breakfast looks yummy - love the coffee and cola! Mine would be the cola. :)

I always like the way you and Tom go to visit other stores - it makes it more than just parks, parks, parks. While I absolutely love the parks, because we went so often, I enjoy strolling through and doing attractions as we come upon each one without a line - if I don't do it that visit, will likely the next or even the next.

Next visit hoping I am with someone willing to do ones I have done in a while. :)

Looking forward to your evening at the Studios! :goodvibes

Thank you, Christine!

For us visiting stores and just explore is part of the experience. Since we do not live in the US, this is as much a vacation as visiting the parks!
We always grab a FP for the most popular rides and then look for rides that have shorter lines - no more "We have to do that" for us! ;)

I can tell you this much about the rest of the day ......... it definitely had its ups and downs! :rotfl2:

WPE is ALWAYS calling MY name! :rotfl2: I really hope you get the dates for next year soon ....... maybe we overlap again! I would definitely LOVE to spend more time with you!

Hi, neighbour! Where in Germany are you?
I have been "silently" following your reports :lmao: but never posted ...... don't know why. :confused3
We are obsessed with DCL as well. In 2009 we cruised on the Wonder for the first time and before that I always said that it would be our once in a lifetime experience. By day two we were rebooked! :rotfl2: Did a b2b in 2010 and this summer we did the three cruises in a row. After this year's cruises we went home with another four bookings for 2012 and 2013!
Not much longer and I will get to cruising the DREAM, we took lots of photos while spending 11 nights on board, it was so much fun!

Hi Karin! Well, I do admit we live pretty far North in Germany, so maybe not all that neighbor-ish after all :thumbsup2.
How cool that you followed my reports, too! No problem about never posting on them, I admit I have been reading quite a few reports myself without ever coming out of lurkdom and commenting on them :confused3.

I can't wait to read about your time on the Dream! We have been pretty much focusing on the Magic so far (two prior cruises, a b2b next year, all on the Magic) but since we have now booked an Eastern Caribbean on the Fantasy for 2013, it's high time to get oriented on the "big ships" - only 2 years to go, that's not a lot of time for an obsessive planner such as myself! :rolleyes1

As long as you live in Germany I consider you a neighbour! :goodvibes

The DREAM is a beautiful ship. We have sailed on the WONDERful Disney WONDER 3 times and loved it and were stunned at how much bigger the DREAM was. But there is still the same wonderful Disney service on the bigger ships, so much to explore and see, 11 nights were not enough.
We are doing an Eastern Caribbean as well in 2013, but I think we'll cruise a little before you do ...... I am stuck with Austria's school holidays, so that leaves us with the height of summer.
........ and I DO understand the obsessive planning - same here too! :thumbsup2

We had our first fresh hot KKs last week. They were so good, just so light & fluffy! I've had KKs before, buut not hot ones fresh from the oven. This was during our trip through the Smoky Mountains. Also had our first visit to Bubba Gump's, wonderful shrimp. Thanks for your reviews, which are what sent us to those two places last week!:cool1:

Hi Elaine and Howie!
Sure I remember you! Remember, we "bumped" into each other at the MK as well. It was a wonderful vacation, we met so many really wonderful people on board. And it is even better that we keep in touch even afterwards! :goodvibes

I hope to be able to post more tonight or tomorrow - work is a bit crazy at the moment, but I have a long weekend until Thursday! ;)

Hi Karin...Yes I do remember that we "bumped" into you at MK. You were going to relax and we were just starting our day. We also love OKW. Howie likes it because the 1 bedroom is so big and he says it feels like home. We stayed at Kidani for the 1st time before the cruise and Scott & Rachel loved it there. I think that might be the new place for us to stay.

It definately is so nice to keep in touch afterwards. :) I spoke to Jeff a few times, he lives about 15 min from us so we will get together with them soon.

Fresh, hot KKs! Don't get me started! :rotfl2:
Like you, we have had boxed KKs too and while they were nice - they were just not as good as the ones fresh out of the fryer!
Glad you enjoyed Bubba as well! I am always happy when someone tries something I recommend and is happy with it! :thumbsup2

It's Disney's fault we love the 1 bedroom at OKW as well. In 2006 we were booked in a studio and were upgraded to a 1 BR and were HOOKED!!!!!!! :lmao:
AKL is beautiful too, isn't it? We got to tour the vacation club rooms during a DVC presentation this September and were really impressed.

We are in touch with Jeff too! They are such a wonderful and nice family and we were so lucky to have been able to spend so much time with them.

Day 4, August 16

Guest of honour - Part 2

We checked the tip board on the way to the restaurant and picked up a Fastpass for Startours before heading for our Mama Melrose ADR. We arrived there about half an hour early for our ADR and the place was packed.
They told us that it would be at least a half hour wait, so we decided to venture over to the shop on the opposite side and have a look at the merchandise.

After we had seen every single piece of merchandise we headed over to the Christmas store

and had a good long look before returning to the restaurant. It was still packed but since they sent away walk ups we were pretty sure since we had already waited nearly half an hour that we would be seated very soon.
When a seat became available about another 20 minutes later, we decided to sit down, since it had been quite a long time we had been waiting already. Every now and then they would take out a slip of paper and call a family, but we were still waiting.
After an hour and five minutes we were finally called and taken to our table. Maybe we should have taken it as a sign of things to come, but we were to spend quite some time in the restaurant. After that long wait we were seated at a 4 top and told that we would have the best server in the house.
Another five minutes later an older server came over, introduced himself, looked lost and left again without taken even the drinks order.
He came back a little while later and asked if we had decided on drinks and when we told him that we had decided on food as well he made it a statement that he would get us something to drink first. We both ordered a Diet Coke and waited. And waited. And waited some more until he returned with our drinks. And not only the drinks, but also

IMG_0732.jpg

a basked full of fresh rolls and

IMG_0731.jpg

some olive oil with dried herbs in it. We were delighted to see that he was now in the mood to take our order and ordered our starters and main courses. The restaurant was full and continued to watch the hustle and bustle while nibbling on the bread.
It took quite a while for our starters to arrive but finally they made their way to our table. Tom had ordered

IMG_0734.jpg

the Clams Oreganatta, oak-fired clams cooked in oregano butter with Italian sausage over toasted focaccia, while I had decided to try

IMG_0736.jpg

the Mixed Greens - with dried cherry vinaigrette, candied walnuts, fresh pear and imported gorgonzola cheese. Since it had taken quite a while for our starters to be served we did not have enough time to finish our food, before our main courses arrived. And that is something I really do not like. But Tom was almost finished and I continued on finishing my salad before digging into the main courses,

IMG_0739.jpg

the Charred Strip Steak, Italian Roasted Potatoes and Cipollini Onions, aged Balsamic-Shallot Butter, and Chianti Wine Reduction for Tom and

IMG_0742.jpg

the Chicken Campanelle, wood-grilled chicken over Campanelle pasta tossed with Romanesco, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh spinach and sweet Onions in a Four-Cheese Cream Sauce for me. Both were equally delicious, but while Tom was able to finish his dish, I was not.
When we were done we were sitting in front of our plates for quite some time. Our server walked by, but didn’t clean the plates or ask for dessert. After about 20 minutes of waiting he decided to take away the plates and asked about dessert – hm, could we have a menu please.
He murmured something, then left and returned a while later with two dessert menus and left again. After quite a while he returned again, took the order and disappeared again. A food runner brought out our desserts. Tom had

IMG_0745.jpg

the Chocolate Cannoli Cake, with cannoli and nutella filling, while I felt like something light and had ordered

IMG_0744.jpg

Mama's Panna Cotta, Tiramisu-flavored custard with ladyfingers and Cappuccino cream. Unfortunately neither of the desserts lived up to the expectations. By then we had been nearly three hours since we had checked in and we were both growing tired of sitting there and waiting.
In the meantime our server had been assigned to look after a 10 top and it took all his attention, so we waited some more. When he finally was done with taking their orders we asked for the bill. He went back and forth and back and forth and finally he put our bill on the table. I was really running out of patience by that time. Don’t get me wrong, I do understand that those servers have a lot of things to do, but our server was mostly standing in a doorway staring, then wandering between the tables until he went back to staring. We decided to go with the requested 18% tip and not top it up like we usually do and put our KTTW card inside the holder and waited.

And waited.

And waited.

And waited some more.

Our server walked to the table next to us, to the table behind us, but would he pick up our bill? NO WAY! So, when I saw another Castmember walk by, one who was not in uniform, I asked about our bill being processed. She picked it up, asked if everything had been alright and I was in no mood to lie, I told her that this meal had taken over three hours now, and we were done! Really. She apologized, took our bill and soon after we could see her talk to our server, who went to process our bill.
The other Cast member came back and handed us something, which I didn’t realize in the first place. She told us that she was truly sorry we had lost so much of our park time here in the restaurant, hoped that our meal had been pleasant and handed us a “Guest of Honor” Fastpass.

IMG_0757.jpg

IMG_0758.jpg

It practically lets you go on a ride of your choice right away. We were both stunned and thanked her so much for her kind gesture. Disney knows how to make things right and guests happy! So once our bill was paid we left the restaurant and walked over to Startours as we only had minutes left on our Fastpass.

Day 4, August 16

Guest of honour - Part 2

sorry, double post!

To be continued ..........

I can't believe you were in Mama Melrose's for 3 hours! That is crazy! The food looked good at least, and I'm glad they gave you the Guest of Honor passes! We have never been, and I'm not sure we'll try it there after that.

It felt like we were stuck in there forever! The food was nice, apart from the desserts but even though I love a leisurely meal, this was too much, even for me. ;)

So I am reading and following along on all your threads, but I have had a bit of a hard couple days.... add to it that I am not feeling great... I get confused easily...

first... there was the outside TR post that had me thinking  I must have missed something...

and now reading about MM, all I could think was...wait... didn't I read this already.:rotfl:

Sorry... I am a bit tapped...and, yes confuse easily.

Hi Karin!!! I have not abandoned your trip report, I promise! My daughter and I made our second trip to WDW and just returned, so I haven't been keeping up very well.

But I am all caught up now and still loving your report. I am really impressed by Boatwrights - I had no idea!!

Also, I am really interested to hear more about OKW. I rented DVC points this year, and we had the most fantastic time ever at the Boardwalk Villas. I would love to buy in to DVC. Do you always rent a car? Do you think OKW is do-able without a car? One of the things I loved about BWV was that we never waited long for a bus, and two out of four parks were within easy walking distance. I'm guessing I might find a less accessible resort not as magical. What do you think?

Hi Karin! I finally made it back & have alot of catching up to do. I was so surprised to read about your experience at MM! When we were there a couple of weeks ago, we had the opposite experience. Our server was very attentive & alot of fun! By the way, I had forgotten to tell you, that when we went to WPE, I tried one of your favorites...the three cheese pesto flatbread! OMG, it was the best!!!:thumbsup2 Now it's one of my favorites as well!:yay:

Karin we had an even worse experience at MM !! That will be coming in my Sweet sixteen TR!!Suffice to say it is OFF my list!!!!!:scared1:

Talk about a marathon meal! Too bad it wasn't that special.;) I'm glad they at least gave you a Fast Pass - should have been an all day one after that!

Ann, sometimes I confuse myself with all my threads and I just posted the MM review on the dining reviews board! :rotfl2: So, yes, you did read it twice. ;)

Hi! Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful time at WDW!

We loved Boatwrights and were so happy we got a same day reservation there. The food was outstanding.

Yes, we always rent a car, but we love to go offsite. Being from Europe we love to explore Florida as well as Disney. And on the other hand I have no desire to wait for buses, stand in long lines and stand in a crowded bus on the way back to the resort after a long parkday. Yes, I am lazy like that.
What I can tell you is, that there is a very good internal bus system at OKW. How can we tell? Last year our villa overlooked a bus stop and you could have set your watch on that internal bus!
It is a large resort, but that again is what we love about it. You do not feel like you are in a hotel, you feel like you are part of a small community, the studios and 1 bedrooms are the largest on property and it has such a wonderful relaxed feel.
Unfortunately you will have to use a bus to all the parks, no walking distance to any parks.

Hi Mary Ellen!
I have been so busy lately, but I will write back to you this weekend - promise!
I still remember our visit to Mama Melrose before you fell so ill on the ToT and we had such a lot of fun, but this time I was just done! After three hours I didn't want to wait any longer. :rotfl2: We had a park to visit! :lmao:
I am glad you tried the four cheese pesto pizza and even happier that you liked it. I cannot wait to have it again in February! :thumbsup2

Karin we had an even worse experience at MM !! That will be coming in my Sweet sixteen TR!!Suffice to say it is OFF my list!!!!!:scared1:

I cannot believe you had such a mediocre experience at MM as well, Rosie. For us, if we want to do the Fantasmic package it would still be the only option. I don't like Hollywood and Vine and we weren't too impressed by the Brown Derby either. But I guess we won't do Fantasmic next summer anyway, so no problem and things and servers can change in the meantime. ;)

Talk about a marathon meal! Too bad it wasn't that special.;) I'm glad they at least gave you a Fast Pass - should have been an all day one after that!

Tammie, the starters and entrees were pretty good, we were just so disappointed in the service. We don't mind waiting if the server appears to be very busy, but "ours" at MM was just leaning against a doorway, looking bored. I was NO happy bunny! :rotfl2:

Day 4, August 16

Guest of honour - Part 3

So once our bill was paid we left the restaurant and walked over to Startours as we only had minutes left on our Fastpass.

IMG_0748.jpg

IMG_0752.jpg

We entered the queue area and walked past a lot of people standing in the standby line up until the last room where even the people in Fastpass line had to wait. But it only took about 5 minutes to reach the area where you are assigned a row and we got lucky in into the front row.
The new ride is fun, still jerky and we liked it a lot. Once we got off the ride we walked over to the tip board

IMG_0759.jpg

as we still had the Guest of Honor pass and found that it would be the perfect pass to use at Toy Story Mania as it had a 100 minute wait in the standby line.

IMG_0760.jpg

So we walked over there, handed over our pass, and got in the Fastpass line. It still was about 15 minutes until we got on the ride, but at least it was less than the 100 minutes in the regular line. We had about 45 minutes left until we had to get into the theatre for Fantasmic and since we were already there, we decided to head into “One man’s dream”.

IMG_0762.jpg

The air conditioning was nice and it’s a great exhibition, so we took our time, explored

IMG_0764.jpg

IMG_0766.jpg

IMG_0769.jpg

and read all the signs before we got to the holding area before the movie. There was still a 10 minute wait, so we went back to have a closer look at the exhibits at the end

IMG_0770.jpg

and in no time we were let inside the theatre. We both love the movie about Walt, and even though we have seen it MANY times it never gets boring.
When we left the theatre it was already time to head over to Fantasmic. The theatre was FULL already.

IMG_0771.jpg

In the Fantasmic package area, which is to the very right facing the stage, there were only a few seats at the very top left, so we decided where we wanted to sit and settled in. About 20 minutes later the show started and it was really nice to watch. We hadn’t seen it in a while and we while we both remembered the plot of the show it was nice to be reminded of all the fun details that make Disney stand out when it comes to story telling. Tom tried to take pictures and he did,

but every now and then people in front of us would have their kids stand up, so it didn’t always work out. Once the show ended everyone got up and pushed towards the exit and this time we were pretty lucky we were seated so close to the exit, it didn’t take us long to get there.
The park was still open for a few more minutes, but we had already decided to call it a day and leave. Again, we got lucky at the tram stop, as a tram had just pulled in and we were able to grab a seat on the first one out. When we had finally gotten to the car we opened up the top and enjoyed driving home in a warm summer night’s air.
Once back at the villa we checked our email, then made ourselves comfortable on the couches and watched a little TV, before we went to bed.

To be continued ..........
