Yes Ma'am! I reported there too! Thanks for the heads up!:goodvibes

What a wonderful morning at AK! 2 trips on the Safari, a Mickey bar and a spin on EE, then leave when it gets too hot and crowded.

The pictures on top of EE are great. Very clear pictures!

Day 3, August 15

Adventures in the Animal Kingdom and a leisurely dinner at the neighbours - Part 1

http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/
I tried to eat my ice-cream as quickly as I could,

[IMG]http://i326.photobucket.com/albums/k429/tinkerbellat/Summer2011/Day03/IMG_0670.jpg

but it was so hot, I really had a hard time finishing it, before it had all melted. Then we were on our way over to Everest, picked up a Fastpass and went straight back to the Safari.

To be continued ..........

Your Mickey Bar reminds me of my first experience with them. While I was eating mine, my hat had fallen upside down on the ground, and my 8 yr old nephew was eating his while standing over my hat - about half of his chocolate landed in my hat. Needless to say, that hat went bye bye and I "had" to buy a new one! :rotfl2:

Okay, I'm all caught up here. I love how your trip started out! Corny Snacks, Convertible Mustang, beautiful resort and yummy food!

Your trip is so relaxing that I feel relaxed just reading it. How fun that you got to meet Jensie! DISmeets are so amazing, aren't they?

I'm so glad you had a better experience at Mara than we did! Maybe we ordered the wrong thing! Enjoying your report, can't wait for more!

We really enjoyed our lunch there! I had been quite looking forward to the stew and flatbread!
Finally able to catch up with responses and hopefully update! :goodvibes

:hug: Can't wait to hug you, either! The one bonus about planning for a trip in February is that there are so many things to look forward to in the meantime: Halloween, American Thanksgiving, and then Christmas! :woohoo: Once January 1 rolls around, we'll be in Florida again before we know it!

Moving on... can't believe that you're relaxed enough on EE to sit there and take such beautiful pictures. Even though I know what's going to happen, it would still scare me. Mara looks yummy! When I had been thinking about staying there, I thought their menu looked great.

Curious why you skipped Jiko...not that we didn't cancel most of our pre-planned ADRs when we were there in July. :rotfl: Did you discover Disney's new mobile ADR app? Don't know what you have for a phone, but they have one now and I spent a lot of time playing around with it when we were there. Nothing like being able to make and cancel an ADR on your smartphone! :rotfl:

Time will just fly by, Tina and we will be there again. We are down to 120 days today ....... so once we get to double digits I will feel like it is around the corner!

I just love to ride coasters hands free, and EE is relaxing enough to take those photos. Thankfully and broad daylight my camera takes quite nice pics even while in motion! :thumbsup2

We love the menu at the Mara - it's a bit different to the rest of the CS places!
We just didn't feel like Jiko that night, not that we did not fit it in another day! :rotfl2:
As for the app - Tom is using a lot them here in Austria where we do not pay for the internet - but in the US it would mean roaming, so we hope that the free WiFi at Disney will continue, esp. at the parks too! :goodvibes

All caught up!! Great first few days!! We are trying OKW in Jan for the first time-I am excited!!

I like the sound of mara interesting set up for a QS place, what a great shot of OKW building and the convertible, which building were you staying in?

I apologize for not responding earlier, but first I was very busy and then the DIS did not want to cooperate and after eating two of my posts, I eventually gave up. So let's try this again! :goodvibes

Enjoying reading your TR. Great pics! Can not wait to hear all about your meal at Jiko.

I am glad you enjoy the TR. Unfortunately we cancelled our dinner at Jiko that day, but we returned a few days later! :thumbsup2

What a great start to your trip! It feels so nice and leisurely.

That DISmeet with Jenseib sounded so nice! I just love meeting DIS friends in real life and hearing more about them. I think the DIS is one of those rare internet forums where you REALLY get to know the people behind the posts because of how detailed our TRs get. I don't feel like any of you are strangers and would meet you all in person if I could!

A Lego store opened up in Toronto recently and I've already joined as a VIP member. Now I'm even more excited about visiting the new store in DtD!

Oooh, African stew. I've never been to Mara but it sounds like it works a little differently than a regular QS place?

That's the blessing of staying for such a long time and going so often. We don't have the need to do ALL the rides over and over again and we do not need to spend every day, all day at the parks. For us the US as a country is something "new" too and we just love to experience and explore.

Meeting Jen was so much fun! I really enjoy our DISmeets and putting faces to screen names! And since you have had so much written contact it really is so easy to connect! :goodvibes

Congrats of being a VIP member at the Lego store! Do they have as many Lego sculptures in Toronto as they have at DTD? They are just great!

It was the first time we had to place our order with a CM at the Mara, so I don't know if it was a thing that stays or just a trial. But it was very convenient though!

Great updates, Karin. The photos from AKL are terrific.

Thanks, Kathy!
Tom has the MUCH better camera and his photos usually come out great. I am using a point and shoot and taking pics during the Safari is NOT easy. :lmao:

Yes Ma'am! I reported there too! Thanks for the heads up!:goodvibes

I am so happy to have you there too, Tammie! Planning is so much more fun if you have all your friends help out with wonderful ideas! :goodvibes

The pictures on top of EE are great. Very clear pictures!

Since we stay for an extended period of time and go to WDW on a very regular basis, we just don't "feel" the need to spend whole days at the parks during the summer time, so we usually "flee" once the crowds get to heavy.
And then with staying at OKW, we really enjoy being there, it is such a wonderful resort and we just LOVE the relaxing time "at home". ;)

Thanks for the compliment on my EE photos. We love riding front row and not having to hold on helps too! :lmao:

Fun story about your first Mickey bar experience! :lmao: And having to buy a new hat ...... :thumbsup2
Tom always urges me to have one during the day, but it's just such a shame to waste half of it because I am such a slow eater. It's different during our February trips, when it is not so hot, but usually I don't feel that much like ice-cream then. :rotfl2:

This summer's trip worked out so perfectly, EVERYTHING just fell into place and we had a fantastic trip, DISmeets and all! :cloud9:

This Trip REport sure has my attention, I really like your collage that appeared up top

I am glad my trip report grabbed your attention! :goodvibes :thumbsup2
The collage is a postcard we have had printed and are going to use to send to friends during our upcoming cruises.
All the photos were taken by Tom and me during our last few trips! :)

Day 3, August 15

Adventures in the Animal Kingdom and a leisurely dinner at the neighbours - Part 4

We were happy to find that Boatwrights had availability and made a reservation for later that night and decided to rest a little bit more before our ADR. ;)

IMG_0695.jpg

About 40 minutes prior to our reservation we drove over to Port Orleans Riverside,

IMG_0696.jpg

parked the car and walked over to the resort. We spent quite some time exploring the shop and taking in the lobby. Riverside is not a new resort for us, but it has been years since we last stayed there and it was nice to refresh our memories.
We still were 10 minutes early when we signed in at Boatwrights. They told us to wait a few minutes until our table would be ready which seemed funny as the restaurant was half empty.
But it only took a minute or two until we were called and led inside the restaurant, where we were seated at a four top. We were left with the menus,

IMG_0697.jpg

which we had just started to study when our server arrived. He made a few recommendations on the menu, then left us to fetch our drinks and to decide what we wanted to eat. It didn’t take very long until he returned with our Diet Cokes

IMG_0698.jpg

and a basket full of cornbread and butter. We placed our order and started on the cornbread, which was still warm and sweet and wonderful.
It didn’t take long for our main courses to be delivered. Tom had ordered

IMG_0705.jpg

the Grilled Pork Chop with Amber Ale Barbecue Sauce, Cheesy Grits, and Onion Rings and

IMG_0701.jpg

the Grilled Tenderloin Medallions, served with mac and cheese, Crayfish beignet and red wine Demi-glace had peeked my interest. While we were still taking photos of our food the waiter came back offering to take our picture so we could finally get a taste of the food.

IMG_0700.jpg

We really enjoyed our food and even though we were full after them we had to order dessert. Tom tried

IMG_0710.jpg

a traditional Southern favourite, the Pecan Pie, which was served a la mode. I have a soft spot for breadpudding, so when I read on the menu that it was a dessert option, my mind was made up. I ordered

IMG_0707.jpg

the New Orleans Bread Pudding, with rum raisin ice cream and fosters sauce, which was very nice.
Unfortunately neither of us was able to finish dessert, the portions were just too big. :sad2:
We finally settled the bill using our Disney Dining Plan Credits and “rolled” towards the exit. It was just a short walk to the car and then we were off, back home to our resort, which was just down the road. :goodvibes
We parked the car and headed upstairs to our villa, plopped down on the couch and rested for a while until we realized that the message button on the phone was blinking. So we listened to the message which told us that we had two packages waiting at the front desk.
Tom picked up the car keys again and off we went to the front desk. Since there were no other people checking in, a cast member was at hand right away to help us. And while he went back to the store room to pick up our packages, we came across the sweet cast member, who had checked us in.
She was just finishing her shift and she told us that we looked familiar to her, so we told her that she had checked us in two days earlier. She was very chatty and we had some fun until the other cast member came back. He handed us the packages,

IMG_0713.jpg

never asked for an ID, we finished our conversation and went back to the car to drive back to our villa.
Once back at the villa we opened the packages. They were from another wonderful DISboards member.
And inside the packages there were two spray bottles of Neutrogena sunblock!

IMG_0715.jpg

I couldn’t get over the fact how thoughtful my DISfriends were. In one of my posts I had stated that I easily burn in the Florida sun, and here was someone who read my posts and had sent us sunblock to use at Castaway Cay! :goodvibes
Thank you again, Ellen, for your thoughtful gift. Once we had gotten over the surprise, we settled in front of the TV instead of going to Extra Magic Hours at the Hollywood Studios. After such a wonderful meal we just couldn’t be bothered to “mix and mingle” with the masses at the Studios. Around 11.30 we called it a day and finally went to bed.

To be continued ..........

Oh, Karen, how thoughtful of Ellen! So many wonderful DISers. :goodvibes

LOVE the photo of Tom in the car - the palm trees in the background make it perfect! Also, another great photo of the two of you - you both always take such nice photos! I avoid the camera as much as possible; do not want to scare small children...or DISers.:lmao:

Boatwrights is such a popular place and your dinner looks yummy! We ate there just once several years ago, but did not have a great experience. I'm never over near POR anymore, but should probably give it another try. It generally has great reviews. :)

Even though I don't visit WDW as often these days, we were blessed to go very often for 30 years, so like you and Tom, while I love the parks, do not need to do the attractions over and over again. What I enjoy most is strolling through a park with friends and doing whatever - attractions, dining, shopping is all fun with friends. Disney is enchanting - sharing it with friends just makes it more so.:goodvibes

As usual, have some catching up to do :rotfl:....and happen to have some time right now, so off to enjoy some Karin TR writing! :goodvibes

Love the picture of Tom in the Mustang! The food at Boatwrights looks good! If we were able to swing going to WDW in late summer or fall this year which mod resort would you suggest? We have never tried POR, I no nothing about it.

What a thoughtful gift! And Boatwright's looks really nice, too. I would stay at POFQ in a second, except that I'm scared of the buses. That's one thing CSR's got...excellent bus service. :lmao: Then again...as you can see by my current plans, I've been a bit spoiled by the deluxe experience, too.

Karin Boatwights has been on my radar for some time !! The food looks very good !!I also was intriqued by the pork chop and cheese grits !!The pecan pie was also on my list!!!!So I guess for this meal I go with Tom!!

Love the car, and Tom looks good behind the wheel. :thumbsup2

Glad you enjoyed your meal at Boatwright's. We've not been back there since our REALLY bad meal in 2007. We still have too many places we have yet to try so I doubt we'll be back anytime soon to give it another shot.
