MDE App Update & Recent “Refresh” Changes Discussion (we’re not doomed!)

There is actually someone else too... calls it hacking instead of tap, grab and modify.

Or, you know, using the app.

We call it refresh (as does easyWDW). I think TP forum has a different term for it. Probably called all different things in all different places on YouTube and FB. Info on is available everywhere Disney info is sold ... er given away for free.

It's ridiculous that any body tries to profit on telling people how to use Disney's own FREE app. It isn't even hard to figure out. I was using refresh on my first visit without anyone even telling me it was a thing.

Anyway I'm so happy that it was just a glitch that was causing all the issues. I was getting worried for my trip in August.

Not to panic anyone unnecessarily but Len from TP hinted that the “glitch” is related to the upcoming FP changes. He gave no further details such as timetable or what those changes will be.

ETA:
And here’s his update as of this AM
“I think the 'refresh' functionality is back. When it was briefly unavailable, it was most likely a glitch.

The thing I'm referring to is having more 'tiers' or 'categories' in which to segment rides. The first visible evidence of this should be seen when a FP ride goes offline and MDE has to issue "anytime" FPs for another attraction. Those replacement FPs will no longer be for any ride in the park -- they'll be for a comparable experience (e.g., "Fantasyland dark ride" for "Fantasyland dark ride").“

This actually makes sense and should have been done long ago. It's a real problem at Disneyland, because EVERYONE uses their multiple experiences FP for Radiator Springs Racers and then the FP line for that ends up being an hour long. Obviously, if Star Wars rides will eventually have FP, they needed to firm up the system to not allow a FP for something like Its a Small World be used for SWGE rides.

How do we get Disney to allow VIP Tour reservations to be linked to the MDE like other tickets?

You may know this, but just to be clear, a VIP tour reservation is not a park ticket (you have to have park tickets in addition to the cost of the VIP tour). All tours and similar activities generally won’t show up automatically in MDE. You can manually add a note as such if desired.

I think we will see how Disney proceeds when they start charging for a "fast pass" to Star Wars rides during business hours and we will see how much people will pay... the quicker it sells out the higher they raise that price until it hits that sweet spot ...

They already exempt the top-level attractions on those "ride down" fast passes in Disney World. I'm sure the Star Wars rides will be exempt unless it's that specific ride that's down.

Do they not in Disneyland? I think the other poster was saying they might segment it even further.

Correct at Disneyland and DCA, currently, when a ride breaks down your FastPass is good on any ride. So if Goofy's Sky School breaks at DCA you can use it at Radiator Springs, Soarin', etc. I only offer this as an example because Goofy's Sky School broke when I got there and I could use the FP anywhere, which being used to WDW I was shocked it would work everywhere. But I should have remembered as it happened to me at DLR before and it was the protocol always.

Interesting. Is there a reason for that? I could certainly see where that would be a problem.

Because there are no tiers at Disneyland. Yet. Since there is no pre booking of Fastpasses, there is no reason to have tiers. You can only get one FP at a time, until your FP return time comes up, or it has been 2 hours (or 90 min with Maxpass). So, since there are no tiers, the multiple experiences passes are good for any ride that uses FP.

At WDW they already limit Anytimes where there are no tiers or even within tiers in tiered parks. The only real change they could do would be to set a few different levels within MK.

Agree! I'm very familiar with refresh and when I saw what this girl was saying to pitch her "product" I actually wondered if I missed something and she knew something I didn't. She ALMOST got me, but not quite.

I truly hope that doesn’t happen. I can’t even imagine what they’d try to charge for them.

OMG!!! I just did my first modify! And got an earlier time on Mine Train! Went from 1:50 to 1:25. How cool is that? I'm trying to get it down to 1pm or 12:45. Pretty cool to have only booked yesterday and was lucky enough to get a better time just 24 hours later. :cheer2::cheer2:

A lot of people say your best chance of moving a FP up will be the night before you go to the park, or the day of, but it’s worth it to take a look randomly throughout the day during the weeks leading up to your trip. A month ago I chose Frozen Ever After at 12:30 as our 3rd FP for our Epcot day in early May. Two weeks later I had a change of heart about how I wanted to start our day at Epcot, and I moved our first two FPs up. Since that time I was able to move Frozen up to 11:45, and then to 11:30. I was hoping to move it up to at least 11:15 before our trip in 4 weeks, and this morning I was able to move it up to the earliest possible time, 11:05.

How can you tell which version of the ap you have? I have a Galaxy S7. I installed the ap over a month ago, but I'm not noticing anything different. Should I reinstall it?

I haven't been following this thread closely, but thought I would post my experience in case others had the same.

My Pixel updated to the new MDE this morning.... wow, what a strange and terrible home page.... Why should I have to scroll down to the middle of the next page to even see my plans? Who comes up with this stuff?

So just to get familiar with it, I made a FP on POC for later this afternoon for myself and my hubby... (APs), no problem, lots of times available. So then I went in to try to modify to an earlier time. The FP didn't even show up. I refreshed, I logged out and back in, I rebooted my phone. Never showed up... so I got out my old tablet with the old version and could see the FP. So I modified it there, then went back to the phone with new app... still couldn't see it. So I uninstalled the app, and reinstalled from google play - still couldn't see it. So I went back to my tablet, and canceled the POC, then created a Barnstormer. Went back to phone - not there.

So, I canceled Barnstormer on tablet, and uninstalled the 5.0 on phone, and found that my library in Play Story still had 4.19.... which I reinstalled, and now I see matching FPs for the day on both tablet and phone.

Is this happening to anyone else?

I am not having the exact same problem, but similar. When I look at my app, I can only see the fastpasses attached to my magic band. The fastpasses assigned to the rest of my family aren't showing up at all. They are all visible when I log onto the website, though. Not very convenient for our trip! I called Disney and they put in an IT ticket to try to fix it, but the CM couldn't tell me when they would be able to get around to it. I've never had this issue before!

Agreed! I definitely will keep looking till our trip in June. It was nice to find it just a tad earlier than the 1:50 I originally had. I'm thinking though because Wednesday seems to be a popular day in MK for Mine Train, I might do better the night before or day of.

I cannot remember where I found the app version, but I will tell you mine updated earlier this week. Check my images and tell me if yours looks like this.
