New Pool Entry Requirement? Share Wristband Experiences by Resort!

If they just started checking bands on Fridays through Sunday, I'm guessing a lot of people who weren't supposed be there would get the message. We were at CCV in April, and the weekend crowd at the pool was almost double what the weekday crowd was.

Also one intersting thing I found is if I go online to the dvc site then go to My Dvc -> My Profile, click memberhsip information, then membership card/identification, view temporary card, and then click print it shows me a card that shows my name, id, date about month out and says “with this identification you can enjoy: pool hopping”. It made me want to give a shot to using it to see if I could pool hop or at least ask about why card says it but this trip had no need to pool hop (only time really is when friends/family staying at different resort) and ran out of time.

Figured I would mention in case others wanted to see what they saw and maybe someone with more time can give it a go.

My temporary membership card does not say anything about pool hopping

I never understood the whole pool hopping thingy.

If I’m staying at BWV, BCV, CCV or any other DVC resort I already have access to a nice pool, why would I waste time and transport myself somewhere else to try their pool?

not everyone sees the world the same way you or I do. pool hopping is a nice benefit for members, but it doesn’t matter because it’s gone.

Yeah I know.

Still can’t rap my head around that instead of putting on your swim shorts and jump into the pool some prefer to put on their clothes, jump into a bus (you can’t park at other resorts) and first then can you start thinking about changing to your swim gear.

Maybe I’m just to old to understand (mid 40’)

Every resort offers different things otherwise why build all these different resorts same concept with the pools

So mine is very straight forward, we go to Disney a lot with extended family but often stay different resorts. It is very nice if we can go spend day with them or them with us at pool since both families are dvc.

It's interesting that they haven't updated the card to not lead people to believe there's pool hopping at this time. It's also interesting that they still offer a 'temporary' membership card since no one actually seems to acknowledge or take it anymore - only the digital. Maybe add that to the list of things on the Disney web sites that need to be updated and corrected!

So mine only shows it when I hit print at bottom of page; did you go to that point or just to where you see the temporary card?

I still don't see it even whenever I try to print it. I'll check from my computer just in case it might be different on a desktop versus the phone.

I would love to take the skyliner from Riv and pool hop into CBR but was that even ever allowed with dvc? Deluxe to moderate pool hopping?

Not sure. The accommodation was for select pools at WDW resorts. And, the official name for the DVC policy was “ complimentary alternative pool use (pool hopping)”.

I understand, to an extent, DVC members wanting to visit family or friends at other resort pools. I just don’t love my family or friends that much to commute in Florida heat to another resort pool. lol.

Question about the pool, we stayed on a 2 night booked on 2 different memberships stay this weekend for the first time.

It was painless except when our friend who decided to join us on the second day came to the pool and vgc told him they couldn't find our reservation. He was on the reservation too.

Is this because we were technically "checked" out after the first night even though we were in the same room and didnt need to go back to the front desk because they were handling check in for us? Anyone had this happen before?

He said they were giving him a hard time and eventually just let him in, but he felt they didnt believe him 🤣🤣

I've read more than one report from people who liked to bring their swim stuff in a bag, stash it in a locker at MK, stay at MK until lunchtime, then spend the afternoon at Poly or GF for lunch and swimming instead of returning to their resort to do the same. Then shower and change clothes and return to MK for the evening. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some who did the same at Epcot or DHS and spent the afternoon at the BW pool. So hopping wasn't necessarily a special trip just to swim, it was a convenient way to pass the hot afternoon without spending time on roundtrip transportation to/from their resort.

I just printed my temporary DVC ID card and no mention of pool hopping. Weird how some have it and others don't. I agree they should probably just do away with the printable ID card thing because it isn't even usable anymore.

In that case I really hope they are able to be done with it since they are checking magic bands.

If you wanna swim at GF then get a room.

Pool hopping was for DVC to DVC (excepting stormalong Bay) not to other hotels. It was great for enjoying another setting and food choices. I hate the menu at some of the counter service places, so it was nice to pick one with food I liked. I think the headache of managing DVC resale members who don't get benefits plus the need to secure access with band/card access and not staff every hotel gate led to ending this (Pandemic was a great reason to end it, then easy call not to resume it.)
