MDE App Update & Recent “Refresh” Changes Discussion (we’re not doomed!)

My Android updated MDX this morning.

And what do you think? I just noticed mine has not updated nor is an update pending, so it looks like I would have to uninstall and reinstall to get the latest version right now. Is it worth it?

Am I missing something? I updated the app on my iPhone and it looks and behaves the same as it did before. I've even restarted my device.

Here’s what it looks like on my iPhone.

The information screen scrolls in front of the Park map. If you click on the map, it will make it full screen.

So, did this update (the back end, not necessarily the app update for consumers) roll out last Thursday? I ask because that was our last day in the parks (MK) on our trip last week. We had been really successful all week in getting 4th+ FP options. Not necessarily headliners (although I wasn't constantly checking and refreshing), but plenty of the second and third tier rides. Friday morning was chaos. The dining plan and room charging system was down, causing backups everywhere and tons of frustration. We ended up waiting 45 minutes to even get in to BOG for a PPO ADR and ended up canceling (it was such a mess they were passing out pastries and telling people they weren't charging cancellation fees). We had three morning FP (Haunted Mansion, POC, and Jungle Cruise) and by 11 were done with them and kept getting the message that all FP were distributed. At least once I was showed a FP but it said it was unavailable when I clicked. Finally snagged a Small World. Granted the crowd level was a 10 that day, but I was shocked we couldn't get ANYTHING. It was weird. We actually ended up leaving the park early afternoon. Between the crowds, the lack of any FP, and the dining plan fiasco, we were pretty much tired, hungry, and frustrated. Thankfully our park days before (Sun-Thurs) went much smoother. We were able to get additional FP for EE, BTMR, SM, etc without trying too hard at all.

Thanks for all the excellent posts ! Updated the app then turned phone off and on and new app came up great (which was not happening before!) since we are not within the 60 Day FP window I can’t report on how that is working...

I just received this email back after emailing them this past Sunday when we were having all of the FP+ problems.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting the Disney Parks & Resorts Digital team and for reporting the issues you are experiencing with booking your FastPasses in the mobile app.

We are aware of the issue and apologize for any inconvenience it caused. Our teams are working to resolve this moving forward.

Thank you again for sharing your observations with us.

My Android updated MDX this morning.

Mine updated on Saturday. I actually like it. Previously, I had to turn off battery saver on my phone for the app to work properly. Don't have to do that anymore. The Disneyland app updated before the WDW one, over a week ago, and it was much more user friendly with the new "+" menu option. Much faster in the parks.

Are you using an old phone running an older version of Android? My son has my old galaxy s4 and it hasn't updated the app the past couple of times. The newer updates aren't compatible with the version of android he has.

Hmm... that could be. My app was updated in February. However, my other Android which is on version 6.0.1 also isn't showing an update beyond the February one. So... :confused3 I guess I'm not sure.

6.0.1 is a pretty old version at this point.

My phone is 8.0.1 (it's almost a 3 year old phone....Samsung Galaxy S7) and newer phones are getting 10.0

It's a version newer than my Galaxy S4, so I guess I figured it would make sense if it could handle newer updates. Idk. My ipad has the newest version of MDE, so I do have access, but obviously the phones are easier to deal with in the parks.

So, my son also has a Galaxy S4. His app won't update to this newer version. It does have the "+" menu option on the bottom that brings up the menu, but still also has the old interface, which is weird. The newer graphics and ads are not appearing. So, it appears the fully new version isn't compatible with Android 6.0

The new version that updated this morning is 5.0

I use a Nexus6P (old enough that it doesn't support the latest OS) running Android 8.1.0 (not the latest Android which is 9.0).

Thank you for all of this info. I have read it from the beginning...

Does the refresh method only work when you get to the parks? Like if I make my FP 60 days out, and I don't get exactly what I want, can i keep refreshing to try to move them? Or do I have to wait until I use the first three and then do it at the parks?

Thanks!

You can do it from anywhere. I am constantly modifying mine after I book them.

You can do it from anywhere, but it works best the night before and the day of. I had decent luck getting good FP (but not FOP level ones, think Space mountain) the night before for the next morning, and very good luck the day of getting ones to use almost immediately. I was never looking for super headliners, though, I always got those ahead. I was looking for things we hadn't ridden yet and didn't want to wait in any sb lines for.
