McCain Vs. Obama

do you wish to be known as a person, or as a black person? If it is as a Black person, why on earth should that matter to you? If your looking to be treated completely equally, then why would you distinguish yourself as different?

You are killing me.

Because I refer to myself as black, that justifies someone treating me unequal? If someone decides not to treat me equally due to the color of my skin, then they are the one who needs to change, not me.

Why in the world would I want to erase part of my identity?

It's not my fault if some idiot wants to use my race as a reason to treat me unfairly.

Master Mason, as I read your post, I can't help but think about the differences between Booker T. Washington and W.E. B. DuBois. I would not have followed Washington’s advice back then, and I won’t follow it now.

You understand that we are not OS and at this time wish not to be....you understand that we are as passionate about Hillary as you and other OS are about Obama....you do not ridicule us for it.....

Thanks for your kind words. I'm hoping that time will heal all wounds; that some HS will see fit to support the Democratic nominee, and that those HS who are not Democrats or do not choose to support the nominee find peace with whatever decision they make after examining all information available. It's my belief that the majority of the HS are Democrats who will eventually back the nominee, and that the party will reunite, but everyone has to make that a decision for themselves.

And the fact that the Democratic party is being torn in half has the republican party looking on with glee.

No dought.....also hoping for all the HS that will vote for McCain not Obama.....and many will do it because they are sick of the DNC....bet ya see lots of DEMS registering as Independents for next election if the DNC does not get it together....

It's sure a big mess...isnt it :(

McCain - For having an Executive Branch that is not answerable to anyone.
Obama - Has, you know, actually read the Constitution.

Did he????? We wouldnt know it, since he misquoted it. He left out the MAJOR part.

When Obama recited the Preamble of the Consitution in his first of many too come CYA Race speeches...Ya know the speech I am talking about, the first one after the first batch of Rev videos FINALLY hit the mainstream media...The speech where he insinuated everybody else is wrong, and he is above it all....OH YEAH (duh I forgot) and then threw his Grandmother under the proverbial bus....THAT Speech I am referring to here!:thumbsup2

The Preamble is....
"We the people, of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union."

Obama said.....

"We the people, in order to form a more perfect union"

This self proclaimed 'Consitutional scholar" completely forgot the first line.:headache: In fact if he was on "Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader"...he would have lost to a 10 year old!:rolleyes1

That's your right to do, I was just pointing out my opinion, and stated it was my opinion from the very beginning. MLK said and this is a paraphrase that he dreamed of people being judged by the content of their charactor, that's all I am advocating as well, leave the discriptors at the door, if you bring them into the equation, then your the one that is making it an issue. JMO, I am not saying I am right or wrong, just how I feel.

Fair enough:thumbsup2

Maybe that's where he learned it

I dont think Obama is stupid but he sure makes a lot of mistakes in his thought pattern when he is talking that he needs to come back and say " What I ment to say was"!

In his defense, I don't think he does it anymore than anyone else does now or in the past, we just live in a world now where everything is micro examined and every gaffee is on the internet in 30 seconds. Prior to the 80's you got a little bit of stuff in your paper or on the 11 oclock news, hell lots of people didn't even know that Roosevelt was in a wheelchair, when he got elected.

The person I quoted said he had never heard a clergy member speak about politics in church. I was pointing out that it's very common in black churches. How do I make that point without stating that it's a black church?

That was me. And I totally got your point. :)

:offtopic:

There was a big scandal back when Christie Todd Whitman took office years ago in NJ. Her campaign manager was accused of paying African American preachers to tell their congregations not to vote in the upcoming gubernatorial election. She then won. There was a big investigation, but it turned out he was bragging that he did that - but he never did.

How one chooses their religion is usually up to their parents - whose parents chose their religion and so on.......

It my Catholic church, back in the 70's & 80's - the congregation was mostly white (Irish and Italians - with a few Polish thrown in.....). When I went to see a communion a few weeks ago - I was happy to see a mixture of African American, Hispanic and the "usual" white people........

By the way - I hope that this isn't too politically incorrect - but we (my friends and I) were always envious of the "black" churches - their choirs were something else - and it always looked like so much fun!

But I stand by my original statement - we never had priests preaching politics from the pulpit - with the exception of the "anti-abortion" homily once a year........

You are absolutely correct!!!
The combination of the microscopic examination and You tube... a terrible combination... this is the first presidential election since you tube ....right?

I wonder how many good people will decide it is not worth it to put themselves and their families thru the election process. It seems much harsher now.....

I will agree to disagree...at no offense to you....but out of all 3 candidates seems that every time I turn around he is saying...O I did not mean it that way....I meant to say it this way......and it has been many many many times that he has had to say that....

I am not talking about how many times the media repeats the same gaffe I am talking about how many times he himself had to correct himself on what he meant instead of said in the first place...his wife also.

OHHHHHHHHH!

 Hey I know "Conjunction Junction"...does that make me a Ingalish Skola????

Wow! I love your tone. :goodvibes I wish this was the way that it could be all of the time on here.

I don't undestand why some of the OS are so mean to some of the HS.

And again, as long as people are self identifying themselves in such a manner, then they are adding to the problem.

Growing up we were always told to look beyond the skin color, the nationality, to view people as people. Once I got out of college and started working in the Grown Up World, I couldn't believe how people would "label" themselves....It was a reversal from everything I've grown up learning.
Here in NY it's natural to identify yourself as Italian, Irish, German, etc. I'm a Proud Hispanic, Bronx born and bred.....Growing up in the city everyone is your friend, no matter whom they are. I've hung out with all sorts of people and in all types of neighborhoods. I see people for people.
Like the other poster said, you hear things like black church, black college, black television network, black business, etc. Why not just call it a church? A college? A t.v. network? A business person?
And why is it racist to have a white church? A white college? A white t.v. network? a white business?
Why?
I just don't understand the double standard.
I have always considered myself right in the middle (kinda neutral, like Switzerland) - not all white, but not black, just like a lot of Hispanics do.
I just don't get it :confused3

Thank you. :) For what it's worth, I don't understand why anyone's mean to anyone about politics on here - I've seen meanness from all sides, and I think people forget that there are real people behind these screennames, and real people behind the public figure that is a presidential candidate. Everyone (hopefully) puts a lot of thought into who they support, and those are deeply-held feelings, which is why people naturally become defensive. But I don't think it's okay to be mean to anyone just because they believe differently from you, as long as everyone's respectful about expressing their opinions and are forming those opinions based on a review of the factual information available to them. I know I want to be treated with respect, so that's how I try to approach others even if I disagree with them. :hippie:
