McCain Vs. Obama

Actually not, but you also can't tell me I am wrong. If people were to say I attend a "white church" they would be blasted, but for some reason it is acceptable to say I belong to a white church. It is ok for you to have attended a "Black College" but if someone attempted to set up a "white College" they would be in Court within minutes.

If people want equality and unity then both sides of the equation have to stop.

Umm...you do realize that there are no more 'black colleges", right? That the full phrase is actually "Historically Black Colleges"? That they were called that not because blacks didn't want whites to attend, but because blacks weren't allowed to attend white colleges?

You do also realize that "black church" is a descriptive term, not a requirement that everyone in the church be a certain color. They are "black churches" because they're usually located in communities or neighborhoods with hugely predominant black populations, not because white people aren't welcome there.

I've tried to bring up issues in several of the current political threads but I've either been ignored or only a few posters have responded (and thanks to them!). I see mainly bickering and insulting the other candidates and little discussion of issues. So I don't buy the bit about OS caring only about issues. Yes SOME do but others...

And again, as long as people are self identifying themselves in such a manner, then they are adding to the problem.

why is it nessasary to say one attends a "Black Church", why not, I attend a church? Obviously this is simply my opinion, but as long as either side is making destinctions, then the issues will continue.

Why do I need to be told he is a "black" candidate instead of a candidate. If I were blind and couldn't see him, then all I could base my judgement on is the words that come out of his mouth correct? So again, in my opinion, as long as people make it an issue it will continue to be an issue.

I'm still looking for Obamas unity and if this thread is any indication along with the Hillary Supporters thread and the McCain supporters thread...it aint there....

OS please tell me where is his unity? seems to be more of a dividing than a togetherness....I see no one for all, and all for onepopcorn:: Where is the YES HE CAN! on such a important part of what he stands for? Also the YES WE CAN with the OS...they are not into any kind of unity that's for sure.....

I don't care how you identify your church.

Black colleges were set up (most of them by white men) because blacks were not allowed to attend established colleges. HBCUs started opening after 1865. Many started as schools to educate former slaves. They later grew into colleges and universities.

The AME churches were set up for the same reasons.

We have black fraternities and black sororities for the same reasons. They are open to everyone regardless of race.

Of course the poster knows this. But when you're looking for reasons to be offended, you tend to ignore history.

I'm an American
I'm a woman
I'm black

I don't feel the need to delete any of those from who I am. If it bothers others, then that's their problem.

I mentioned black church to point out a difference in how politics/social issues are handled in some churches. (again this goes back to our history)

The person I quoted said he had never heard a clergy member speak about politics in church. I was pointing out that it's very common in black churches. How do I make that point without stating that it's a black church?

It is actually very simple. You state, that you have been to many churches and have seen it happen many times.

How is it unifying to say it happens all the time in "black" churches? By that very statement, it means you don't wish to include me as a part of your church because I am not black.

I have been to many Black churches...and sorry but have been blessed not to run into a REV like at Trinity.....and neither have any of my black friends....when i was a Jesus freak my Bible study group of all rancisis preferred Black churches because of the energy...not churches that were boring....we loved all the Praise the lord and love and unity that was there and we were always welcomed...

Even to this day when we go to Richards church ( black friend) that is 95% black we dont see that....

I would never stay in a church that is like that. And if as the OP says that most black churches are like Trinity and the Rev are like that in most the black churches well than no wonder we have so much racism in the US...and it is coming from those churches spreading White hatred!!!!!!!!

Even churches that i go to that are almost all white....i have not ever come across that crap.....and in the eyes of the lord there is no justifying that kind of hate in his house of worshisp....

That doesn't explain WHICH churches I've seen it happen in.

You are free to attend/join any church you please.

WHEN I SAY BLACK CHURCH, I MEAN THAT THE CHURCH IS LOCATED IN A BLACK NEIGHBORHOOD. AS A RESULT THE MEMBERS AND CLERGY TEND TO BE BLACK.

Black church refers to the demographics of the church. Not the requirements for membership

We agree on something:faint: :faint:

I've never seen a pastor behave the Wright did. However, I have heard plenty of social/political commentary in church.

Who said most black churches are like Trinity?

And again, I state, by your use of the term, your contributing to the segregation issue.

Yes...it's definitely the use of the term, not the fact that blacks are often segregated into different communities by economic inequities that is the problem. :thumbsup2

Hey....have you guys seen this?

http://www.bush-mccainchallenge.com/index.html

Yep...McCain is nothing like that Bush character.

He's worse. :scared1:

And again, I state, by your use of the term, your contributing to the segregation issue.

My stating the racial make up of an institution is contributing to segregation!:rotfl2: :lmao:

So we can NEVER use the terms black or white to describe things or people?

If so, I think that's the epitome of political correctness run amok.

do you wish to be known as a person, or as a black person? If it is as a Black person, why on earth should that matter to you? If your looking to be treated completely equally, then why would you distinguish yourself as different?

So what are the HS supporters doing to unite people? Or does that not matter at all to you?

Sure it does....but isn't that what Obama is trying to do???? isn't that more of his thing.....Hope and YES WE CAN.....well send this to him when it comes to his unity plans...NO HE CANT!

The OS try to talk about issues like health care and choice, the issues that once united us all as Democrats, but the HS denounce talk of issues as "bashing" and/or "scare tactics." Ok, so issues are off the table for HS.

No the OS come in to the HT and bash Hillary and her supporters and tell us what an idiot she is...you come in stating your facts as true...our facts dont matter and we are all wrong.

The majority of OS try to talk about uniting around the eventual Democratic nominee and continually reaffirm that they will respect the DNC acting within the law and its rules and should the SD's choose Hillary we (most of us) will vote for her. But the HS don't want to talk about that either. They will only accept the DNC choosing Hillary. So, there's no uniting there with the HS.

I am yet to read anything from an Os in the Hillary thread about unity ...the only unity the OS say in there is that they dont need HS votes that he can win without us....

Of course, the HS do offer a plan called "counting the popular vote," which I guess is their way of uniting. However, since that is not the rules of the DNC and that discounts the voters in the caucus states, it's really not much of uniting is it?

The HS and Hillary talk about Unity...but that is not our MONTRA..it is Obamas....all the OS do is start trouble everywhere they go.

Now, as for McCain uniting -well the HS may very well be able to unite with the cons for this election, but we'll see how far that goes when he makes appointments to the SC, and does nothing to reform health care, and the economy gets worse .... Because at the end of the day -issues do matter.

This is the only unity I see from Obama and OS...is the great job they are doing uniting the MS and the HS together.....but I dont think that was his plan:)

I am in the red....;) Have a great day.....and good luck with the unity thing....

Experience in the senate:

Obama ...4 years
McCain... 20 years

Military experience

Obama ...none
McCain...Navy

McCain - For continuing the war indefinitely.
Obama - For ending it as soon as responsibly possible.

Surely, you don't believe McCain wants to wage war for the sake of it?! Everyone wants it to end as soon as responsibly possible. Sheesh.

McCain - Against a woman's right to choose.
Obama - For it.

This is enough reason for me to stay republican. I can't condone the murder of children. It's reprehensible in all ways. No wonder things are as bad as they are.

McCain - For the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy (after he was against them).
Obama - For rolling back the cuts only on the top percentage to help provide relief to the middle class.

This could be. I don't have any info on it. Rest assured we'll continue to be taxed no matter who gets in.

McCain - For continued torture.
Obama - Against it.

Maybe if Obama wins and begins to feel the responsibility of millions of American lives, he'll reconsider. I'm not saying torture is good, but it may be necessary for security. I don't know and neither do you.

McCain - For having an Executive Branch that is not answerable to anyone.
Obama - Has, you know, actually read the Constitution.

Ok, you'll have to provide a link for this.

McCain - "Doesn't know much" about the economy, per his own admission.
Obama - Has a plan to help the economy.

Obama's plan hasn't impressed me so far.

McCain - Has a health care plan that could cost everyone reading this more money.
Obama - Has a health care plan that won't affect most people while endeavoring to get health coverage to those that don't have it.

Any plan that gives me more control over my health care is a good plan.
http://www.johnmccain.com/Informing/Issues/19ba2f1c-c03f-4ac2-8cd5-5cf2edb527cf.htm

McCain - Can't tell the difference between Sunni and Shiite without Joe Liebermann.
Obama - Is fine without Jiminy Cricket on his shoulder to correct him.

You are correct. Senator McCain reversed the two twice.

McCain - Aggressively courted the endorsement of someone that said Hitler was sent by God to get the Jews to move to Israel.
Obama - Had a preacher that said things to make white people uncomfortable.

Made white people uncomfortable? What about the "God bless America? God d**n America!" quote. Hard to see how that's taken out of context.

Now...let's see. We've got a flailing economy, thousands of soldiers dead with no end in sight, a housing crisis that could see thousands of people losing their homes, $4.00 per gallon gasoline at the pumps, the rebuilding of an American city that was drowned on the current administration's watch, a resurgent Taliban in Afghanistan, and a Supreme Court that already leans to the right and has two of the more liberal justices drawing very near to the end of their terms.

But yeah...let's make sure we focus on what happens at Obama's church when he isn't even there.

Sometimes, I think this country deserves another Bush administration. Which is good, because if so-called Democrats go out of their way to make sure McCain wins in November, that's exactly what we're going to get.

Most of this is just more fill. Sure the economy is sour right now, but it was booming not too long ago. Did you pat President Bush on the back for that. It's awful that soldiers are dying, but I appreciate their sacrifice. It's not in vain effort from my home. Is a liberal govt. likely to lower gas prices? How? By seizing control of the futures brokerages? Was the President supposed to control hurricanes, too? A more conservative judiciary? Thank God!

I don't want to argue with you, but really, there are two sides to every coin.

Heres some great Obama Unity for ya.....OH I forgot you dont need us HS.....hmmmmm...good luck with that....maybe he can still get the MCcAin Supporters instead.....

Oh - me, me! *raises hand* I did post something about unity, and I'm an OS supporter, and some HS were very kind and open to me. Page 87 of the Hillary thread, bottom of the page - and other than that, I've left you all alone. :) Not all HS and not all OS are alike.

YES YES....you are one for unity and if we were all treated like you in the HT than we would have it....You are a true uniter....and a great OS.....it would be nice to read more posts like yours....YOU ROCK!!!!!!!

You understand that we are not OS and at this time wish not to be....you understand that we are as passionate about Hillary as you and other OS are about Obama....you do not ridicule us for it.....

this all started in the Liberal thread and all the HS were chased out by nastiness about her and went to out own thread and have been bombarded everyday with Hate in our own thread by many OS...We have asked nicely if they would stay out if they are going to do that and they have said it is a free forum and they can go where ever they want and say what ever they want....

You are a class act and you are the kind of person we dont mind listening to with your point of view.....you are welcome in the HT anytime....but remember in our home there will be some things that you may not like to read....as in the OT for us.....after all is that not why we have out own threads...instead of one.

Have a blessed day!!!

And the fact that the Democratic party is being torn in half has the republican party looking on with glee.
