Massive litter in the hub following 4th fireworks

Some things could be slippery I suppose. The spills could also ruin your shoes.

By the same token, going out in public could ruin your shoes.

I've never slipped in an outdoor littered area. Movie theater, sure. The littering is thoughtless and nasty but I just don't think it qualifies as dangerous.

I think a lot of the trash is due to the camping out. That doesn't excuse it, but when you get penned in by people, you don't want to give up your space; it'll just get taken. And on a high crowd day like the 4th I'm not sure I buy that there were convenient empty trash cans around. I passed plenty of full ones after the fireworks during my trip.

If you're able to buy the food, take the food to where you're sitting, eat the food, make the trash, then you are able to dispose of it. Heck, make your children help you take it to the garbage. In the end, there's no excuse for lack of personal responsibility. I would never dream of leaving my trash like that.

Oh and there were reports of dirty diapers as part of the trash as well...

What if both of your hands are busy holding your children's hands trying to make sure they don't get lost or trampled?
The way I view this is that if I purchase something like a soda, popcorn, bag of chips, or whatever, that I now own the responsibility that it gets in the trash. If it needs to sit in a bag, stroller, my pocket, or hand until it can be thrown away then that's fine. In your scenario, someone has managed to purchase the items and maneuver through the park with them and their kids, so it should be no different when throwing it away.

Nope. I'm a mom and have traveled to WDW with little ones by myself. I've never been anywhere (including WDW) where I have even considered littering or not cleaning up after ourselves because little ones were with me. What kind of example would that set for the kids?

With small children, you get organized before you travel. If you want to hold your children's hands on the way out, drink up, pack up (including your garbage) and away you go. Maybe you won't find a garbage til you get back to your resort. Throw your trash out there. There's just no excuse to leave crap on the ground.

There was a large family sitting beside us at Pecos Bill a few years ago. Everything about them appeared well-to-do (fit and well dressed) and I'm sure they would have seemed well-mannered in a social situation. But the father just watched in amusement as some of the kids would have a mini food fight and then the family (8, 10 or more), got up and exited, leaving a pile of trash and crushed food that peaked at a foot high and filled the large round table (5-foot in diameter). The poor CM's voice actually cracked when she asked, "did they just leave?!?" We helped bus the table.

As to the fireworks, the traditional culture in the U.S. has been to leave your trash behind at movie theaters, ball games, concerts, etc. for generations. This is the progressive result of that. I expect Disneyland Tokyo, a country where I know sports fans police the area around them for trash on the way out, doesn't have this problem.
Is this because people know someone is coming in to clean afterwards? Just doesn't make sense to me, especially at the movie theater where you will be exiting right next to a giant trash can. Requires no extra work to clean up after yourself.

Absolutely TERRIBLE! Who would think of leaving their trash on the ground!? To me, any Disney park is hallowed ground and I would NEVER! The selfishness of some people astounds me!

Did you see the picture of the guy who was holding the stroller OVER HIS HEAD it was so crowded!?

Listen I'm not saying littering is good

I'm saying I give people a pass when they are packed in like sardines like they were there. To the point it's borderline dangerous. Trash is the least of anyone's concerns.

I really don't. When massive groups gather for ANYTHING is when just throwing your trash on the ground is most problematic. I mentioned earlier a massive rally FOR THE ENVIRONMENT on the National Mall where they left it trashed. There really isn't a good excuse for this.

I think the overcrowding in the Hub is dangerous, not the trash

People are acting like people could have leisurely walked over to a garbage can in those conditions. I'm saying not necessarily. And yes if it comes to holding onto your children versus throwing a cup away, I hope people choose safety

I don't think anyone has said "leisurely".

We carry our trash until we see a trash can. Period. Crowded or not.

Pretty ridiculous to end up in a situation where your choice is to EITHER hold your child's hand OR dispose of your own trash!

I don't think there is a pass. There have been a lot of excuses, which is why when people complain about the state of the parks, I point the finger at guests and not at Disney (so much).

You manage to get the food or whatever and eat it with your hands. You are able to hold onto the trash until you get to a trash can. It is inexcusable to throw it on the ground. The things people will try and play the But I have Children card for. Good grief.

Oh and to the poster who said it is customary to leave garbage at places like movie theaters, not the movie theater I go to. They have large trash cans outside of each theater, plus they station employees with large garbage bags by the exit.

Your children's lives will not be in danger because you decide to throw some trash away. They survived when you bought the items.

You guys care more about the trash than Disney lol. Disney wants to sell as much junk food as they can. They want the Hub packed. They have staff waiting to clean up the inevitable mess. Of course people should try to throw out their trash, but yes, in a very overcrowded place, dangerously overcrowded at some points, there is going to be trash left behind

I don't think that argument really holds up. The exit crowds can get pretty ugly. When you bought the stuff, it was just standard crowds.

I'm not supporting the opposing side though. Travel with kids- take a small plastic bag along for their trash. It isn't hard. I do it hiking all the time.

Yes, but there shouldn't be. Just as you shouldn't have to tell grown adults to flush a toilet or to not pee on the seat, you shouldn't have to tell people to not throw their garbage onto the ground.
