Massive litter in the hub following 4th fireworks

Trash...is...dangerous?

You're more likely to be injured by an inexperienced person riding a scooter or a double wide stroller rather than an empty bag of Cheetos, but okay.

That bag of cheetos could blow up in front of your face during a gust of wind. You'd be blinded, trip and fall into the person in front of you, and like a domino effect person after person would go down. Kids could be crushed, ankles could be twisted, scrapes, bruises. You'd need a fastpass for the first aid station. All because some lazy slob couldn't bother to stick that cheetos bag in the garbage.

Yes, trash on the ground is dangerous. Step on a half eaten plate of nachos in the dark. Have you foot step into a coke cup. Slip on a banana peel.

It was the same situation over in Fantasyland! And the trash cans weren't overflowing in the slightest. People are slobs!
Not to mention inconsiderate, selfish, totally disrespectful of the people around them. Most of our state parks and beaches are carry in-carry out meaning you take your trash with you and it's very clearly posted. It's unreal how many leave their crap all over the place when they leave. >:(

"Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, drifting through the wind, wanting to start again..." :mic:

I mean you can't be serious.

Anyway, I said people should pick up their trash. :confused3

Some things could be slippery I suppose. The spills could also ruin your shoes.

We were there on the 3rd in MK for the fireworks. Nobody could get to the trash cans to throw anything away. A littler after 8 you could not move at all in the Hub, people were walking over people. There was no staff in the hub at all and people were throwing trash everywhere, there was someone that even threw their trash in the bottom of the stroller that we had behind us. :(

I am guessing that it only stayed this disgusting for a short amount of time. A team of custodial cast members would've swooped in as soon as the crowds dispersed enough and the place probably looked as good as new.

If this had been Tokyo Disneyland, it would've never happened at all. They are very respectful of not littering there, and crowds wouldn't even be an excuse. Not true at any other Disney park.

My DH and I had a party at our house yesterday for the holiday. I made an announcement at the beginning to everyone there: "If I see one piece of trash laying around that is not in the garbage can where it belongs, I will make every single one of you get out of the pool and pick it up to throw it away". That solved the problem for us! The kids threw everything away in the garbage can and I made sure to thank them at the end of the party for being courteous and considerate. It starts at home folks.
I think you need to get on the PA system at MK and make this same announcement. Instead of the 'getting out of the pool,' change it to 'before you leave this park!' Works for me :lmao::thumbsup2

Sure, one should do that. But I think when you are that closely packed like sardines and perhaps worried about safely exiting, caring about leaving a cup on the ground takes a low priority. Especially if you are worried about small children.

Right survival through the crowds and safely maneuvering takes precedence. Especially if you have small children or other members of your party who need help. You only have two hands
This just sounds like trying to justify the behavior. Throwing away your trash should have no impact on your ability to safely maneuver through a crowd at a theme park.

People are disgusting.

I grew up 10 minutes from Disneyland in the 70s. That was when if someone dropped a single piece of popcorn, three CMs immediately came running from different directions to sweep it up. Really. Because of that I was conditioned to be hypervigilent about trash at Disney.

Out of courtesy I wipe down the table after we are finished using it (typically at WDW people pounce on a newly vacated table and there isn't time for a CM to come by and clean it). We got a snack at Friar's Nook at MK last week and there was a group sitting at the table next to us eating ice cream - it was like 95 degrees. When they got up they left the table COVERED in melted ice cream. The best part was they also left a big pile of unused napkins on the table as well.

Trash can be dangerous, that's why glass bottles aren't allowed. But people slip or cut themselves on objects thrown on the ground (no one wants get a tetanus shot on vacation). And it's not unheard of for people to step into harms away dodging trash/vomit/poop/whatever. There's an entire branch of the legal industry called "slip and fall" and they aren't just there to front for con men.

You know this only happens in cartoons right?

Nope. The whole joke of slipping on a banana peel has roots in real life from a spat of injuries around the turn of the last century in the U.S., including recorded deaths from head injuries. A banana peel on a hard floor has a friction coefficient equivalent to ice.

Actually, I slipped on a banana peel in the Jewel parking lot. Feet flew forward up the air and my boyfriend caught me by my underarms. And a guy walking by shouted "that only happens in the movies!" :rotfl:

So packing people in like sardines has nothing to do with this behavior?

Exactly you can't even get to a trash can at that point

There was a large family sitting beside us at Pecos Bill a few years ago. Everything about them appeared well-to-do (fit and well dressed) and I'm sure they would have seemed well-mannered in a social situation. But the father just watched in amusement as some of the kids would have a mini food fight and then the family (8, 10 or more), got up and exited, leaving a pile of trash and crushed food that peaked at a foot high and filled the large round table (5-foot in diameter). The poor CM's voice actually cracked when she asked, "did they just leave?!?" We helped bus the table.

As to the fireworks, the traditional culture in the U.S. has been to leave your trash behind at movie theaters, ball games, concerts, etc. for generations. This is the progressive result of that. I expect Disneyland Tokyo, a country where I know sports fans police the area around them for trash on the way out, doesn't have this problem.

It shouldn't take much focus to hold on to your trash until you see a garbage can. Even if it's crowded, holding a cup in your hand til you get to the front of the park shouldn't take any extra effort at all.

What if both of your hands are busy holding your children's hands trying to make sure they don't get lost or trampled?
