Mass shooting at Fort Hood- Killeen

I have a question. I was just talking to a friend and he says he thinks this is the military base his nephew was stationed at (he just got out after 25 years in October) but he's not sure. All he knows for sure is that his nephew lives in Austin and worked at the Army base near there (he was a med tech and at the end of his career he was in some type of leadership position with the med techs). Is this the base he was most likely stationed at?

Sounds like Hood to me.

Yes. Probably.

This is one of the largest in the US (if not the largest) and there are tens of thousands of people there.

Ft Hood is by Temple, Kileen and near Austin and Waco.

I'll also take note of whether the threat level has gone up or not. It's been Alpha almost the entire time I've worked here.

I was wondering about thaty possibility well before Ken Robinson said it a few minutes ago on CNN.

The powers-that-be HAVE to take that into consideration...for the wellfare of those troops.

I think the White House is also wanting to rule that out. Since there were multiple shooters.

The schools on the base are all "cleared"...

So far no other Bases in the US are on lockdown. So they think this is isolated at this point.

He could also be at Ft Sam Houston in San Antonio.

This is terrible news. I'm especially troubled by the reports of multiple gunmen. My thoughts are with the military personnel and their families.

I agree. It's kinda stating the obvious .... especially if the shooters are "outsiders" as some have reported. I don't think it was meant to fear monger.

40,000 troops live and work there every day.

Sirens are still going off at Fort Hood (as of about a min ago).

Per HLN........guns involved were standard issued m-16's. Still not sure if shooters are soldiers but word out is that they were in uniform.

It turns out that my friend's nephew was at Sam Houston....when I told him the names of both bases, he remembered but I have a feeling that with the proximity of the bases and the position his nephew held, he knew people at Ft. Hood as well. Definitely saying a prayer for all these soldiers and their families. Fox News is saying at least nine deaths and 27 injuries.
