Make-up in August

Ah the wonders of aging, do you make up or do you not make up. I'm 59 and finally starting to show my age, up until around 50 I could pass for 20s. I don't wear makeup unless I'm at work, period. Don't wear it on the weekends when I leave the house and don't wear it at Disney. I don't worry about pictures because we don't take them any more, we've been going for so many years we really don't need any more and I hate having my picture taken so unless someone is forcing me, I haven't been in pictures since I was a child. My son and I used to get one PP picture every time we went, in front of the hat at HS. After they took the hat out, even that one was no longer done. I'm allergic to the sun so I always have to have at least a ball cap on, even in pictures so you can't really see a lot of my face anyway. I do wear Jose Maran perfect and protect any time I leave the house. It is sort of a tinted lotion/sunscreen, pretty high SPF and has argan oil and just a tad of tint. When I go to work I wear that with light argan oil under it, some sort of either blush (jose maran) or bronzer on my cheeks and forehead, mascara and a slight tinted lip gloss.

I can fully admit while I love makeup I am envious of people who don't wear it. I've been wearing it too long to ever stop now. But I can say there are many times, and at Disney is one of them, where I'd love to be a wash and go type. Skipping that hour for makeup. But alas, I can not do it. I'm way too uncomfortable without it on. To me, it's like not wearing a bra. It's just something that is done when outside the house at all times and I'm too old to change habits now

I live in Central Florida and wear make-up every day, so I've had a lot of practice finding products that don't just slide off my face in the heat.

In the summer (basically anywhere from May to October) I only ever wear BB cream or a powder. I'm still on the hunt for a BB cream I love, but the powder I use is Bare Minerals Matte foundation powder with the Mineral Veil underneath. That stays out pretty well on its own, but I use two additional products to make it really stick. The first is Urban Decays primer potion, which works wonders. The second is Ben Nye Final Seal make-up setting spray. You use this to set everything, and it does a great job of acting as a barrier to keep your foundation in place. I've heard good things about Urban Decays setting spray too.

Yes, waterproof mascara is a must, any recommendations?

I do like Lancôme products, so I will look into that :)

I'm using Mary Kay right now and I don't really like it

I, too, am in my 40's. I regrettably have always been extremely self-conscious of my appearance and suffer intense social anxiety at times so it would be humiliating for me to ever step foot outside the door at Disney without a full face of makeup.

Sounds like you have an accomodating budget so I'll throw out some of my high-end favs:

The best longwear and buildable medium/full coverage LANCOME foundation is the Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation SPF 15. It has lots of shades.

I also use Lancome's Bienfait UV SPF 50+ underneath along with a Lancome waterproof mascara; and I can't live without their Blush Subtil Face Sculpting & Illuminating All-In-One Contour, Blush & Highlighter.

It's my experience no foundation survives the humidity and heat in Florida/the south without an excellent setting spray; and I find Urban Decay All Nighter is the best. It has a fine mist, holds up to multiple layers after a drying period, and does not dry to a tight feeling or smell strong like Model In A Bottle and Ben Nye did for me.

Stilla waterproof eyeliner is excellent and there are several eye primers I find to be quite good, like Urban Decay, Lancome, and Tom Ford. Tom Ford has an excellent click pen brighetner (can't live without), long wear foundation, face primer, and their eye shadows are unbeatable in quality.

Another vote for Bare Minerals or a similar product. Waterproof mascara is a must! And of course SPF. Lip balm is a great idea too, especially protection-wise. Personally, I wear no eye makeup while there except for mascara. Most of the time I'm wearing sunglasses anyway. I also carry a few cleansing towelettes while touring for a light touch-up during the day (feels awesome on the back of the neck!). The less makeup the better IMHO because I feel "fresher" without the extra layers on my skin.

I went in August last year. I don't ever go makeup-less.

I suggest waterproof makeup foundation if you are going to use it. It rained ALOT. I used Clinique BB Acne Solutions BB cream because it is SPF 40 and it stays on like crazy. If you have really dry skin I wouldn't recommend it. But for combo skin it is fine.

For mascara I used (and use daily) Blinc primer and mascara. It doesn't smudge or come off except when you are ready to take it off. It forms an almost artificial lash on top of your own lash and then you just gently pull them off at the end of the day with warm water and a little pressure (hard to explain without actually using it). It is the best mascara for heat/humidity/water.

I did use a setting spray the first couple days I was there because I was expecting my face to melt off, but it really didn't and other than the pictures we took at night after we'd been out running through the rain, my makeup stayed put pretty well.

I think this is one of those products you either love or hate. I tried and just couldn't stand it. Did not make my lashes thick or long enough. Maybe they are just too thin and pale to start with? I wanted to love it so much because I really don't like using waterproof mascara. I limit it to Disney or a time when I know I'll be outside and in a damp environment, like at a football game

Did you use the primer with it? It makes a huge difference. I have naturally very long lashes so I don't always use the primer for every day wear, but without the primer, it is more like a lash tint for me than a mascara. With the primer, it is very lengthening and defining (think L'Oreal Voluminous but non-smudging!). Up until last year I had a hard time finding the primer and had to order it direct, but Sephora now carries it, I believe.

Yes. And that is really awful for me too. Even Dior Show is pretty poor performing on my lashes. Better than Sex is the only one that does anything with them. And trust me, I have used every.single.mascara on the market. Including the fiber ones (double yuck!)

Have you tried Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir major volume mascara? I've been using it for a few months now and I really like it, it's more dramatic than my previous mascara (Dior Show) but if you wipe down the wand before use you can tame it down for more natural look.

I'm also the girl who wears a full face of makeup at Disney World, it's just what I'm used to so it's what I do. I wish my skin was pretty and even where I didn't need makeup, but alas that is not the case. I want to take pictures and look decent for meals and such, so it just seems like doing my makeup in the morning and then touching up with powder isn't that much trouble. I use a mattifying primer and setting spray to help hold my makeup in place and then keep a blot powder in my bag along with a lipstick in case I need it. Only place at Disney I don't wear makeup is the pool and water parks.

I am in love with this new foundation by Bare Minerals. It stays on all day long! Has an SPF of 20 as well. http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod10111980 It feels really good on my skin and smells like olive oil. :) I live in New Orleans so I am definitely used to makeup sliding off my face. This one does not!
I really wanted to like that one since it is less expensive and lasts longer than the Perricone serum foundation, but it was a no-go. Me and Bare Minerals just don't get along like we used to :(

If you are fair skinned, I really like banilaco's bb cushion compact. I'm planning on wearing that with primer, some gel blush and lip gloss. I also like Wet And Wild's setting spray, I think its comparable to some of the higher end sprays. If you are looking to try out some Korean bb creams, prettyandcute.com ships from America and has a lot of Korean skincare and makeup products to sell so you don't have to worry about huge shipping costs.

I will have to look for that. I love his eye liner pencils.

But really, the Better than Sex, regular and waterproof are really pretty spectacular for my lashes.

Primer and setting spray are my life saviors for makeup.

Waterproof mascara my go to is Dior show

Lip- look for a long lasting stain. I get mine from my salon and I never have to retouch it after I put it on.

I live in a similar climate and I don't let the heat stop me from wearing make-up (on most days anyway!). Of course a good moisturiser with sp is great, and I recently found a L'oreal one that doesn't leave my face feeling greasy or smelling like sun screen after applying it. Ill try to remember to post the name of it when I get home because I am not sure what the name was.

As others have said, waterproof mascara is the way to go, and if you want to go beyond just eyeliner and mascara, I cannot recommend Urban Decay's setting sprays enough. They work wonders for me! I used it while at WDW and my make-up was mostly intact by the end of the day (only things were like the eyeliner on my waterline was gone by then which is normal due to blinking, and well lipstick/lip gloss would be gone but again that is normal).

I use the Ben Nye's Final Seal setting spray - this was actually recommended on the DIS and touted as the same thing the princesses use. I went in August last year and my makeup looked great all day.

I also use false eyelashes while in Disney!

Have to recommend the following (born and raised in FL - this is what works for me in South Florida and in the parks!):
-sunscreen
-moisturizer of your choice
-primer... so many good ones but if you're looking for a decent, cheap one, NYX is a great brand. I get mine at Target and Ulta.
-BB cream BUT, only if it covers to your liking...
OR,
-Mineral/powder foundation... I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Laura Geller baked foundation. Super easy to apply and travel with. Not heavy but COVERS.
-Concealer - choose your favorite.
-Setting powder - for problem areas and under eyes
-Setting spray - love my NXY spray!

It sounds like a lot but it's really not bad. Takes 10 min, tops. I skip blush for the parks but might throw on a little highlighter (not necessary, of course but pretty!). And, I always wear a swipe or two of mascara. To top it all of, lip balm.

As soon as we return from the parks, ALL my makeup comes off immediately to prevent any breakouts. And, of course, if I'm having a good skin day, I just do concealer and skip foundation.

Hope this helps!

Wow, thank you everyone! I'll be shopping next Monday and really looking forward to trying new products :) And while I'm at it, I will be stopping at a specialty shoe store and trying out Vionic sandals and flip flops!

I don't bother with foundation at all. It will sweat off in 5 minutes. I wear waterproof liquid liner, mascara and lip gloss.
