I received my luggage tags for ME in the mail today. We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside and the tags all read Animal Kingdom Lodge. I thought this was strange so I called Disney. The first woman I talked to said they had just been misprinted and the barcode on the tags would be enough for them to figure out where to send the bags. I didn't like her answer so I called back and spoke to another CM. This CM said that they would send me new tags. I asked him what would happen if we had put the AKL tags on and he said they probably would have scanned the barcode and it would have been invalid since it was incorrect and the bags would then be left at the airport. Yikes! If I hadn't called back I am not sure what would have happened!

Time for me to go out on a limb (without flame suit so if I fall, please kiss me goodbye).

If you used the incorrect tag by accident the bags will not be left at the airport forever and you will not have to go back to the airport to get them. If you did not find your bags in your room you would present your baggage claim checks down at the resort guest services desk and the baggage would then be delivered.

Since your vouchers that came with the baggage tags got scanned when you boarded the bus, most likely the baggage will be on its way to Disney shortly after you are, but if worse comes to worst, the delivery process might not commence until you reported the bags had not arrived in your room.

It is more likely that the bags would end up at the incorrect resort rather than stay at the airport which means that when you reported them missing they would get to you more quickly.

I am guessing that if you use the incorrect tags but write in the name of the correct resort on them, the bags will be delivered even if you crossed out the bar code (added 2/7-->) which you should not.

Whew! That was close. I'm back down on terra firma but now to call 911 so they can come rescue my cat from the top of that tree.

That's actually good to know that if I hadn't called I would have still gotten my bags, it just would have taken a little longer. Hopefully I'll still get the right tags though. That will just make me feel better.

i had the same thing happen. we are staying at SSR and our tags said wilderness lodge. i called and teh cm told me it was correct in their system - didn't know why they were misprinted. becuase it was so close to our departure she said we wouldn't get new tags in time. she told me to cross off the wrong name and when our bags get pulled they will check them in the system to see where they need to go.... i am still a little nervous about it but i figured if we don't get them at SSR then they will be at the wilderness lodge.

we'll see what happens. we leave on Friday

It doesn't matter what the tags say. The barcode is linked to your reservation, and as long as that says Riverside, that's all that matters. If it really makes you feel more comfortable, you can take a sharpie and cross out AKL and write in PORS. Just don't mark over the barcode.

so hypothetically speaking, what if the bar code is not legible or it got crossed off ? do they find you in their system by name ?

I went to WDW the last week of January. I stayed at CSR & used DME for the first time. My tags also said "AKL" We didn't have any problems what-so-ever. In fact, it was the most seamless service I've ever experienced! I was able to check into my room by 9:30am & my luggage arrived at 10:15am. The trip back was just as easy.

We just used the ME in January, due to confusion with the address we never got our tags. We still wanted to use the ME so at the airport we game them the description of the bags and hoped for the best. We landed at 12:00 and had bags in our room by 6:00 pm, we wore very happy with ME service.

I also got my tags yesterday. All mine say AKL in the diamond on the top of the tag but under our names it says POP. So I have no idea what the AKL is....but they do say POP at the bottom.

Your's are prob different though.

If something, anything, goes wrong with the yellow tags, there is already a mechanism in place to find misplaced bags. The Guests Services CM would give you a chart with different shapes of bags, you describe yours, and they would go by your name plastered on the outside of the bag or on an ordinary tag (you didn't forget this, did you?). They do this all the time for bags lacking yellow tags.

AKL is a code for Animal Kingdom ...i believe they group bags into batches for pick up and delivery, the resorts under the AKL code get oput in one truck, and so on.

I may be wrong, but I think thats the case. Ours last year for ASMu said AKL as well.

AKL is Animal Kingdom Lodge, a resort. AK, at least on this board, stands for Animal Kingdom, the theme park.

If the barcode gets crossed off, the luggage will be delayed by several hours. It will get processed by hand just like the untagged luggage.

I typed that wrong, the tag had AK on it, under that, it said All Star Music.

What I meant to say was the AK is a grouping of resorts near the Animal Kingdom.

Our tags said AK and then had "Animal Kingdom Lodge" written under it. Then today in the mail I got more tags...2 sets! The first envelope of tags said Pop Century and the 2nd set said Port Orleans Riverside. Well at least I got the right tags eventually, not sure why I got Animal Kingdom Lodge and Pop tags though! Since I called them last night to tell them I got the wrong tags and they would resend them there is no way these tags are the resent ones. There is no one they could have gotten here in less than a day so I am guessing I am going to receive yet another set of tags!

Also, in the flight information section of the ME booklet it says flight information unknown, do I need to call and have this corrected?

We were in a similar situation and they sent us new corrected tags which did not arrive before our departure. This is what we were told: You have two options 1) pick up your luggage at baggage claim and then proceed to the ME counter or 2) go directly to the ME counter and give them your bag claim tickets and the ME bag handlers will pick up the luggage at the baggage claim area and get it to the resort. We chose to get our own bags. Sure would have been easier if they had mailed us the correct tags in the first place.

I'm starting to get a little nervous about this. I reserved ME about 3 weeks ago - and we leave in 16 days :cool1: - but haven't received our tags yet.

I called them last week and they said they had been "sent to the printers" and I should be receiving them shortly.

I'm wondering why so many delayed and printing problems with this? Especially when you call and you can hear them typing the information into the computer???

My thoughts exactly ! I didn't receive our tags until 10 days prior to our trip ( we leave on Fri 2/10) and then they were printed wrong. There was no time to get re-printed tags to us.

I am going with the idea that all will be well.....so what's the worst that can happen, maybe our luggage gets transported to another resort... :confused3

I am having the kids take an extra set of clothes plus their swimsuits JUST IN CASE. But, I am going on the assumption that Disney will get it right ! :thumbsup2

A good assumption.....and you are right in having your kids have extra clothes/swimsuits with them. We always do that, even without DME!!!

Just thought I'd report that I received my tags in the mail yesterday evening :woohoo: Everything on them was accurate and correct too :thumbsup2 :yay:

So - now the only thing I have to do is wait and TRY to be patient for the next 2 weeks.
