Magic Christmas Cruise 2010 (Dec 18th - 29th) - PART II

Nick, I'm not much help but four years ago I sent a BIG ole box. I mean BIG. Think it weighed 28 pounds--full of costumes and goodies and wood swords and water and I don't know what all. When I read 12" record size I thought "uh oh." I have plans to send Santa babe stuff ahead and it's just not going to go in a 12" square box--that is a small box.
I just can't imagine they are going to be there in the warehouse with a ruler. Just as long as it's not great big and weigh over 20 lbs., I think you'll be fine. Don't you?

Agreed Mia,

Totally 100000000% agree. Went back with mom to UPS store to show her too and she was skeptical too. Called DCL and they said a 24x12x10 box would be fine to mail to the port. And one good thing about this trip for us..it says ONE box per stateroom..well, we have TWO staterooms! So HA! We can send two boxes..hehe. All's well now.

Thanks Mia for the info and help.

Cars

A few pages back, there was some discussion on the new Cars movie.

We were on board when the first Cars movie came out. It was rainy on the morning of Castaway Cay day, so they opened up another showing of Cars in the Buena Vista Theatre. In the middle of the movie, it kept playing but the house lights came up. Snow White walked from the back of the theatre along the side to a door. She went through it and the house lights went back down.

DD and I got a kick out of that, thinking where else would something like that happen.

ohhhh, the magic of Disney! :wizard: I love it! That happened to us when we were watching "Prince Caspian" onboard. Donald Duck and another character walked up the aisle. Very fun! :thumbsup2

I'm so glad some of you are going to Claret too! I will have wander around the boat looking for my fellow 'boarders"! :cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

We are definitely doing a shopping day in Martinique. From what I have been reading there are loads of really cute French shops and delicious cafes to hit up. I can't wait. Supposedly it is a 15 minute walk into town or a 5 minute van ride. Maybe we could get a bunch of people together to share the cost of the van.

You had wood swords? Wow, I thought they didn't allow swords onboard, even toy ones. I really want to have swords for pirate night. If I'm caught, will I have to walk the plank with Mickey?
:rolleyes1

We are also winging it in Martinique - couldn't come up with anything that we thought the kids would like and thought that everyone would be exhausted after three days of ports.

We took DD7 and DD9 on the Tortola dolphin adventure last summer when the Magic went to Tortola. The girls were really excited about it, but when they got into the water and saw how big the dolphins were, they FREAKED :scared1:. They scrambled out of the water and wouldn't even put their feet in. DD7 finally let me hold her, but DD9 wanted none of the "grandpa" dolphin! One of the staff came over and asked her if she'd like to see the "baby" dolphin. She jumped up and followed him to another area. The pictures were priceless! She petted and kissed the "baby" and still talks about it. I was so grateful to the staff!

We are also planning to wing it in Martinique. I thought maybe with their being known for celebrating Christmas all month long that there might be some festivities on Christmas Eve. If not, we'll shop a little and grab a bit to eat.

We did the dolphin excursion with our boys when our middle child had just turned five. I had the exact same concerns and knew that he'd either love it or hate it, but luckily, he loved it and still talks about it! :thumbsup2

Yep, yep. Hubby made them for a Peter Pan b'day party (along with a full size pirate ship. Yes, he did) and we packed them ahead for pirate night and Peter Pan obsessed daughter.

Captain Hook even had a sword fight with her one night in the atrium. (I'm not exaggerating about the Peter Pan stuff--we even had to leave our Palo supper early because it was Peter's time to be out. We never missed him)

No one ever said a word about us having them. And this was after 9/11.

Thanks! My parents are in 2560. I guess the kitchen noise can't be much worse than the noise my kids usually make:goodvibes

How funny - we were Cat 9 GTY and were assigned 2560 for this cruise on the day assignments came out. I guess DCL noticed that we liked Deck 2 midship. I ultimately decided to upgrade to a veranda, but may be sorry I gave up 2560 if we get sea sick on Deck 7.

I hope your parents enjoy it. I do really like that location -- one flight up to the lobby!

It's got to be something to do with TA's putting cabins on hold and then letting them go. Still must mean that there aren't many left.

Thank you so much for calling and getting back to us!:goodvibes Guess I will go find a box tomorrow morning!

Thanks everyone for the dolphin feedback! Anyone have feedback as to how bad the boat ride over to Tortola might be? Same as before one said it was fine the other said everyone got seasick:confused3

So my french is horrible (ok really I mostly only remember how to tell people that they made their bed now lie in it :lmao:) hoping that is not going to be a problem wandering about Martinique

Ok guess I should get back to work:rolleyes1 So hard to concentrate now that it is getting so close :yay:

Yea, it must be. Because now when I checked the website is showing nothing available, even for 2 people. That is so weird, because this morning there was availability. Oh well, I guess we are going to be a full happy boat :cool1:
It makes sense, who wouldn't want to be on this glorious cruise! :dance3:

I've been doing a lot of reading about Martinique (can you tell Im a bit obsessed? LOL) and from what i've read Martinicans (I think this is correct) really, really appreciate tourist trying to speak French no matter how chopped up it. The other thing is get some Euro's if you intend to eat at small cafes, shop at outdoor markets, etc.

I've downloaded a translation app on my iPad so I can try and pretend I speak French! :goodvibes

Here's a question, we are in cabin 2620, which has some good reviews (location) and some not so good (lots of noise from kitchen-above, and whatever is below). TA says we can switch to a GTY, but then we give up knowing that we would be on the same floor as my parents and in-laws. Any suggestions?

We had 2650 last cruise and noise was not a problem, but we were under Parrot Cay, not the kitchen. We like that the elevators are empty when they reach deck 2.

Hooray!! My mom and I just ordered our Euros for Martinique and Guadalupe!!

I CANNOT wait to get to these two islands!!!! :dance3::dance3::dance3::dance3::banana::banana::banana:

I am having a blast reading about all of you interesting people and your families! Thanks for sharing...

BBQmommy- one of my cavaliers looks just like the one in your photo- his name is Stanley. He is the best dog on earth! :lovestruc

miatamel- are you kidding us about Lola? Are you a stand-up comedian? That is the funniest thing that I have ever seen  and the costumes are wonderful!

momssurprise- my husband and I are passionate about Steamboat. No reason to wait until your daughter can do blacks. We will talk your ear off about that town. I will try to remember to put a few pics on your iphone so that you can see them.

tinkmischief- I am supposed to bring a vinylmation thingy of my nieces down and trade for her since she has two. Do you have duplicates? Do you need the "tinkerbell" one? Could I trade with you for something else?

Another thing- I called the perfect gift- Melody- this past weekend and she was awesome. Not too late to order a basket. I am making it one of the kids gifts. I am sending her a few disney items that my mom picked up while she was down there last week (disney has stuffed Christmas characters, vinylmations, etc...). She is going to create baskets out of mesh bags for the beach with all sorts of holiday things. Only about $45 if anyone is interested.

Angie, we used to live in Colorado and skiing there is one of the things we miss the most. Well, that and our family. LOL

I would maybe be interested in one of the gift basket/bags. What do I need to do?

Palo just opened up a bunch of dinner reservations for parties of 5-6 people. So our romantic dinner for two will now also include my oldest DD & DS along with my in-laws. If I figured the schedule right, the night (12/26) won't conflict with any of the other special dinner events

One way or another we will find some quiet time together, just not here. I guess I will now look for a couples massage instead.
