Magic Band Colors - Why No Black?

Since we visit WDW several times a year, I am starting to collect the different colored Magic Bands - makes it fun and I like to coordinate with my outfit. I wonder why there isn't a black color? That is one of my favorite colors and I think it would look quite fashionable, don't you?

Any ideas why no color black? Would sure beat the basic gray they default to.

This is surely one of the great mysteries of our time.

I'm just going to throw this idea out: Black is a bad color outdoors in Florida. Black absorbs sun & heat. I had a black "pleather" car interior and black steering wheel when I lived in Miami. It was "burn-level" hot when I got in my car after work and I drove home with a cloth on my steering wheel until it cooled enough to touch normally.

I'd like a black one, too - although I hadn't thought about the heat issue. I also want a purple one. I ordered a pink one for our trip in October, I'm going to paint it purple.

I keep waiting for the purple myself. A deep purple seems like a great gender neutral color. But yeah, it is surprising there's no black. Maybe they thought the generic gray band took care of that spectrum. Ha.

Someone beat me to it. I was going to say, probably the same reason there is no purple band.

Maybe in the future they will add more colors.

I heard that the dye for the purple band bled terribly. (I have no idea if this is true.) I imagine similar problems could happen with a black band.

Heat isn't the reason for no black. They have black GPS watches for endurance athletes that are worn in similar and worse climates.

Exactly! I certainly know the old adage "black absorbs heat" and all that, but I don't think that's the reason at all. The dye bleeding theory mentioned by a pp intrigues me, though.

I presume those GPS watches are made for worldwide sale. My car with the black interior was made in Germany for US sale. BUT, the MagicBand, a product developed for an average joe and his family to use only in Orlando, FL, could be selective about color choices that would be best suited to Orlando's intense sunny climate.

How quickly I forget....yes, and no short-shorts during the summer if you have black seats.

I ordered a pink one for our trip in October, I'm going to paint it purple.

I had very good success using a lilac-purple sally hansen. It came out great on the pink, but I don't like the shine. Going to try an acrylic next time.

The point is black can be used, and is used, on arm bands currently with no issues in regards to heat. Disney could very easily create a black band that would not have adverse effects in black if they desired. At least no more adverse effects than any other existing color.

Who says people with the black GPS watches don't have issues in the intense sun and heat? Maybe they're annoyed as heck. How would you or I know?

Because I have one and have worn it while I did an Ironman Triathlon that took me 11 hours in Florida, I train with one in South Louisiana daily/weekly in mid summer sometimes 8 +hour training days and I personally know people who have worn them while competing in some of the hottest races in the world (St George Utah, Louisville, Kona, Hi) and I have worn my garmin numerous times (just as a watch) while at Disney tracking my mileage.

The watch being black was no different in regards to heat than if the watch was red or orange (like it's predecessor from garmin).

Also intrigued about the dye bleeding comment. The actual color part of the band is not against your skin though. It is in the (black, strangely enough) casing.

If they had purple it would have been my first choice. Black would have been second. I guess some black nail polish would do the trick though.

I don't think it is because of the heat/or the dye I think it's because black isn't seen as a " happy " color The gray well they had to pick something neutral Just guessing here

Maybe it's a color bleed problem like they allegedly had with purple?

As far as I know red, blue, green, pink, yellow, orange & gray ( the default one if no color picked ) or maybe someone can pick it if they like it not sure
