Hi, everyone. One of the members of our party has misplaced his passport after online checkin. Can he just show up with birth certificate & drivers license to the port? I’m not sure what we do in this situation.

To avoid issues, he could go back into Online Check-in and upload photos of his birth certificate and license. He may not need to do that, but it's better to take a few minutes in advance just in case rather than take a while at the check-in desk at the port explaining what happened and figuring out what needs to be done.

Note that this only applies if your party member is a US citizen on a cruise that leaves from and returns to the same US port. Otherwise, he needs a passport.

If his identification has been approved then you cannot upload another type of document. The upload button and id type selection menus will not be available. You will be required to call DCL

Thanks. That's good to know. On my January cruise, my documents weren't approved until late December, but the process might be working better now.

Mine weren't approved until 3 days prior to the cruise (Jan 30 cruise). Our friend's were approved about a week in advance. There might still be time to do it online.

My checkin was last week and docs approved this week which is how I know that you can't change it

He may want to consider getting a new passport, expedited, if possible. If you need to evacuate for any reason from one of islands due to an emergency etc you need a passport to fly back into the US from another country. I have been on 2 Disney cruise that had medical emergencies and someone was evacuated off the ship. It was pretty memorable to stop at the Morton Salt Island and see a helicopter coming to the island to pick them up.

Even expedited is taking a long time right now. Posted 7-9 weeks, but I have a friend who paid for expedited and is sitting at 10 right now.

I hope they get it together. My son turns 18 next February and will need a new one. We plan to travel to Europe and Japan summer 2024 starting in June.

Wow that's crazy!! We had ours expedited last February (2022) and it was 2 weeks. Poor people waiting.

Not to give people false hope, but not all applications are going slow at this point. We did standard application (not expedited) and were shocked to receive our passports in just over 5 weeks. Soooo, not saying that’s what you should expect, but maybe they’re starting to work through some of the backlog?

Question not about passports but there was some mention of getting documents approval while doing on line check on. What documents and what do you have to do for approval. The last cruise we were on was in 2018 because of Covid and today we decided to go to Europe

You will need to upload your passport and a self portrait. Both need to be approved

This should be interesting since I have no clue how to do this. When and why did they start this. Hopefully if I call someone can walk me through it. Thanks for the info

This started when cruises resumed after the COVID-related shutdown. It's not bad as long as you know what to expect. On the computer or phone you're using to access online check-in, you will need to have pictures of the passport (or, if not using passports, the birth certificate for all and government-issued photo ID for adults) for each person on your reservation. You will also need a head-and-shoulders photo of each person (not the same as the passport photo).

This thread has a lot of useful information on the online check-in process:

You will need to upload the photos, as well as payment information and transportation information (which have been required for several years) before you can get a Port Arrival Time. It may take several weeks before a message shows that the photos have been accepted. If they aren't, you'll just need to present the documents or have a photo taken during check-in at the port.
