Losing weight for Disney Wedding

This is a question for anyone who has continued to lose weight after their FINAL dress fitting....

Did anyone have a problem with their dress becoming too big? What did you do?

This is a HUGE fear of mine. I have lost 15 pounds in the last month and if this keeps up I will only need half of my dress....LOL!

depending on how much weight you lose, they can always take it in a little more!

I'm having my final dress fitting mere days before my wedding - Carolyn Allen's is storing my dress for me from June (when I bring it to them and have my initial fitting) to September (final fitting and wedding day!). I HOPE they'll need to take it in a fair bit at the final fitting - otherwise I'm in trouble!

I hear you gals about losing weight before the wedding! I just had to call David's and have them send a size smaller dress! YAY, but still annoying for them I'm sure. My date to pick up the dress is pushed back, but that's ok! Since I'm doing Jenny Craig and I've lost quite a bit the first three weeks, I'm a bit concerned I'll have to bring my dress in more. It's a nice problem, but something I don't want to worry about! I just want the dress to look great! Anyway, sorry for babbling...

Goldee, I'm doing WW too -- (were you the one in the other thread I was talking to, I can't remember). Anyway, I just started week three and DF and I are both down 8lbs. If I hit my goal (-2/week) I'll not only make up the 30lbs I've gained since buying my dress, but I'll hit another 20 -- so I really hope they can take my dress in. I bought it at Davids and took it home that day (didn't want to risk it getting lost). Should I go back to Davids for the alterations? Does anyone know how much it runs?

well the first time aroung (25 years ago), I dropped 20 pounds the month before my wedding! I was on a super 'crash' diet! I had a close personal friend (one of my bridesmaids) who was amazing at sewing (she wasn't a seamstress at that point, only 20 years old and going to college). She took my dress in at every seam (it was huge). It looked so pretty for my wedding. It had tons and tons of lace (so the bottom part was fine) but the upper part was what had to go in. It did look amazing and I am so blessed that I didnt have to pay for alterations!

I am going to order my dress for our vow renewal today. I haven't lost a lot of weight, but I have definately lost inches this time and hope and pray that I have a similar problem. Again, I have an amazing friend who could alter my dress without batting her eye. I also have another who has actually made wedding dresses for others, so I have a back up.

Alissa....DOn't have Davids do you alterations...I would find a seamstress and have them do it. I have never heard ANY good David's stories and I know dealing with them for my BFF's weding was horrorible!

I think that I was told even by the salegirl at David's bridal that they are pricey with their alterations but they guarantee anything that is wrong with the dress like a bead falls off etc. To be honest my dress has so much detail that I could not tell if I bead fell off it unless I stared at it for hours. I definately did not enjoy my David's Bridal Seamstress experience but did not want to say anything until I got my dress in hand. Now I might say something if they contact me or just let it go. If I had to do it all over again would still buy my dress from David's Bridal but would have taken it somewhere else that was highly reccomended (although how do you know they won't mess something up with your dress and then there is no guarantee or maybe the really good seamstress' other places have something). I feel like david's bridal has a price for everything versus taking to another place that might give you more of a flat rate. They said the first time that you don't leave here until you are happy and the first time they had me in tears.
I am sure everything will work out just fine for you. Maybe get some highly reccommended NY seamstress names.

All this talk about weight made me want to try my dress on again today..
My grandmother bought it for me last June (1 month after we were engaged), when I was a size 12, and she has since passed away, so I MUST wear this dress...I would be heartbroken if I didn't.
But I've lost a lot of weight (about 20lbs) and I knew it was running a bit loose on me. I put it on today and its falling off..agh! It has a lot of beading on the bodice....will they be able to take it in??? I'm about an 8 now.

Just in response to the issue with David's Bridal Alterations, I had absolutely no problem with them. They worked around my schedule and had the alterations done in two days. Mind you, they were not major alterations, just shortening the neck part of the halter and adding the bustle. It was about $100 for this to be done, but they were pleasant and I got what I wanted. My only issue is that anyone other than the main seamstress did not speak english well. This was in the Omaha store.

I actually found my seamstress by trolling the Knot If you go on your local Knot boards, people are pretty nice, and you can search for posts about alterations to get ideas of who people are using. Some of them may even be seamstresses!

I ended up finding a really nice Knottie who used to be the costumer for Will & Grace. She did an excellent, inexpensive job on my bustle and added fur cuffs and collar to my bolero.

I guess every David Bridal is different and I guess anywhere you go there could be problems. Just wish the place I went had a LARGE private room this was pretty small and a narrow short hallway and other people who were there for their appointments (that they scheduled almost on top of each other) were there. I am just glad it is all over with now

Yes, I did have a problem. My dress was 2-piece, and ended up being too long because of it. I honestly don't know how. My dress fitting was about 2-3 weeks before the wedding, but I guess I lost more weight, enough for the dress to be too long. We didn't realize it until we were out of the room, otherwise we could have probably taken the button in, but it was too late. I would make your last fitting to be about 2 weeks ahead of time. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Ok guys i need some help!

Been eating fantastic for 2 weeks (lost 6lbs), then i go i decide on my final number of guests for ceremony and spend a week frantically calling people so that i can set the date, and to my horror i've put on 8. Any tips on remaining calm and stress free. I'ts no good for my dress target. xx
