But sometimes it isn't DROIDS we are searching for, but FOOD~! Do you ever find yourself searching the kitchen cupboards, pantry, and fridge in a desperate search for __________ ???? You aren't SURE what you want, but you want SOMETHING... salty, greasy, sweet.... whatever your "go-to" junk food might be. You aren't truly HUNGRY.... but you are looking.
This is so me!
How do you talk yourself out of those situations? How do you walk OUT of the kitchen (or the 7-11 or the snack food aisle) WITHOUT the indulgence? How do you grab the apple instead of the Doritos? Or the cup of tea instead of the M&Ms? Share you strategies for those moments when we need to remind ourselves ..."These aren't the snacks you're looking for."
I am not good at this yet - I saw the dietician and exercise physiologist yesterday. A goal that was set during my meeting was to have 2 chocolate free days pers week (at this stage). Gotta say I was a little underwhelmed by the dietician ended up with a pamphlet with the food pyramid and some food serving sizes and recommended daily intake for each food group e.g. vegetables, protein etc, a food log sheet for one week, a 2 page handout that tells me things I mostly know and a go forth and do it yourself approach as she believes if she gives out food plans people don't tend to stick to them so I have to work it out myself with the bit of info she gave me that I could have downloaded from the government website. I am hoping that maybe it was because due to our conversation she could see that I do actually know much of this but clearly struggle to put it in place. I just hope that if someone with much less insight or knowledge went there and she would have a different approach with them. It just annoys me when these government funded programs are taken advantage of by the providers. Ah rant over.
I also have to drink a glass of water before each meal and that wait for 30 minutes after eating before drinking again - the theory being that drinking too much during or straight after the meal pushes it through quicker and then we feel hungry again
When she asked when I stopped eating - I responded when I am full or sometimes just beyond that if there is only a small bit left and you think well no point wasting it I'll just squeeze it in. Her response was to say think about stopping when you aren't hungry any more. Apparently we learn to miss, ignore, push past this sign - she said that at some point usually about 3/4 of the way through the meal there will be a slight pause in eating whether it be a slowing down of the rate of forking food into your mouth or a longer pause whilst chatting with family etc and that should be the time we stop eating. And lastly to slow down when eating - it should take us 15-20 minutes to eat a meal but most of us are apparently scoffing it down in 5-10 minutes and we don't register how much food we have consumed for our brain to say stop before it is too late.
Just so busy with work, family, and taking my Dad to appt and radiation treatments
Hope your Dad is coping with the treatment ok. This will be me a bit soon - my Dad has a hospital appointment Thursday for pre-procedure checks and then goes back the following week for the gold markers to be done for his radiation treatment to start for prostate cancer. My Mum doesn't drive, they try to be really independent with transport when he has appointments like these and will insist on using a community hospital transport option (you have to pay for it - but can be cheaper than taxis). But I am insisting on going on the gold marker procedure day to keep Mum company as she will be worried and will then go to the first couple of radiation treatments. They are telling him that he should be find to drive after the radiation but will see what happens first.
Luckily, I'm at the point where eating the snacks doesn't really come into play anymore. I've been eating well now for so long that it's my routine. I can't think of the last time I've caved and snacked on something that really wasn't in my game plan. I'm sure it will come again at some point, but for right now it's just not an option - and we do have that stuff in the pantry. I think I'm so consumed right now in my life with this weight loss that it trumps any craving. It's a pretty good place to be, never been here before and it's probably why I've successful so far... just wondering how long it will last.
This is awesome - hope you can stick with it you seem to be making some really positive changes that will be great for your health and be a good role model for your kids.
We drove 2 hours Thursday night, 7.5 hours of driving on Friday, 6.5 hours of driving Saturday, and 7 hours of driving last night. Phew.... I think my car deserves an award!!
That sounds exhausting! Hope you and your son saw everything you needed to make a choice.
This is me and sugar. At my worst I would actually drive to the grocery store to get ice cream.
Yep this is me - not having it in the house won't stop me if I really want something - shops are very handy to where I live also.
This is me, but at the movie theatre. I'm smelling the popcorn and looking at the candy and just want everything! Why does everything 'yummy' have to be so bad for you!
Popcorn, chocolate and soft drink is such a part of the movie going experience for me also. We went to the movies on the weekend gotta say I was disappointed with the popcorn

I think they scraped down to the bottom - it wasn't that fresh and it had LOTS of unpopped kernels in it.
Agree! I log most of my food before I eat it so that I know what to account for in the day. Sticking to that schedule and plan keeps me on the 'straight and narrrow'
I think this is what I need to start doing - I tend to do it on the fly as I go. I am also going to try and plan each day/week better.
Hello my friends.. seems I have dropped off the face of the planet but alas I am here just making myself insanely crazy with this house stuff.. Truthfully I called it quits towards the beginning of the month as we couldn't find anything in our price range or our area but then on Thursday a 2004 single wide mobile home on it's own land popped on my radar that is honestly 3 mins from where I live now and is in my price range, it fits all the criteria of our loan and fits our budget that I had made for us.. So I emailed our mortgage lady on Thursday - she didn't get back to me till Friday afternoon -- OH THE NAIL BITTING! I was soo happy when I opened it and it was a proposal because I was expecting horrible news as that seems how it's been going.. then I emailed my real estate agent and asked her to get us a showing -- OH THE NAIL BITTING CONTINUES ... even today as I am typing this.. they haven't gotten back to her.. We've done 3 drive bys LOL.. so far the only downfall is the road it's on is HORRIBLY BUMPY!!
O M G .. Haaa .. when working up the figures between now and there it appears that we will only have a total bill of $77 more then our current one with everything included.. I think that $77 for the 25 years to own our own land and a 12 yr old home is pretty good... I am hoping the seller will pay some towards closing but if not it will still work out ok.. I have a Hardship withdrawal available in my 401K that I can use for the purchase of new home and we have a chunk in savings.. if the seller will pay some that just means we'll be able to hold onto our savings for new furniture.. I of course have to sell the home I currently live in but I don't think that will be an issue. It's going to be a steal and will last a while longer if it's treated right.. here's a few pics.. These are from Zillow.. I'll take more when we finally get in for a showing! its a 3 Bedroom 2 Bath
Housing decisions are so nerve wracking! The yard is fantastic and the house looks really nice - good luck hope it all comes together for you. I wish I could afford to get myself and the kids into a property of our own again ..... but it won't be happening any time soon. I really miss just being able to paint and decorate their rooms anyway I want.
One thing I've noticed is that my appetite seems to dwindle down when it's hot. Anyone else have that too? It felt great to be full at only 1200 calories today. Usually I'm starving and needing food.
My appetite does go down but I still seem to manage to eat enough to gain weight. When we were in
Disneyland in your really hot September the affect on our appetite did help be save money on food

we really only had 2 meals a day and lots of nice cold water and a sprite to keep us going.
I lose my appetite in hot weather, too. But I also lose any desire to move when it is hot unfortunately...
You read my mind
