Hello,

Can someone explain the Lightroom Clarity slider to me and an example where it might be useful. Bringing it to the left makes an obvious change. But my untrained eye is not seeing much of a difference when I bring it to the right.

Thanks, I appreciate your help!

Clarity adjusts the midtones. It will become your new best friend once you understand what photos are affected by it. Its purpose is to add depth by increasing contrast. You'll see the most effect in photos with very contrasty composition. It adds pop to those photos.

Another use, with LR 2, is to reduce clarity. The effect is to give that glamour glow to the skin in a portrait.

Here is a great intro to clarity (you'll need quicktime to play the video): http://www.lightroomkillertips.com/2007/video-behind-the-scenes-with-clarity/

I went back and pushed this up on some pictures from a recent trip to the zoo and I definately see the improvement. The "punch" is subtle but now that I know what I am looking at, I am pleased.

I am really enjoying LR. Thank you for taking the time.
