Has anyone ever gotten sick on a Disney Cruise?

Interestingly, on our recent cruise down under on the Wonder, they ONLY had hand sanitizer bottles at the entrance to the restaurants.

I got different responses when I asked what it was about (as the repeated use of their hand sanitizer was irritating my daughter's skin - NB: we had wet wipes, so just have her those to wipe her hands AFTER she used their hand sanitizer) and was told both that they'd run out of the wipes and that they were using the hand sanitizer because of concerns about people not using the wipes / not using the wipes properly.

There were other oddities onboard, like no lids for the kids cups! I'm not sure whether that was just their way to force everyone to buy the special "Tiana" kids cup in the restaurant given there's only so many times a parent can tolerate a kids cup being spilled!
Unfortunately Disney also went lidless in the parks too… perhaps it’s not because of the special kids cup but rather for environmental reasons. We are at sea, after all.

A year ago my daughter and her friends sailed on the Dream. She ended up with food poisoning that put her out of the fun for the second half of their cruise. She said the sick bay staff was nice and checked on her daily. No bill was issued, which we appreciated.

In comparison, my son broke a tooth biting into a piece of friend chicken on night 1 of our 7 night RC cruise. The food was hard and no, he did not bite the bone. The restaurant manager checked in once. No medic staff checked in. No apology.

That’s so terrible to hear… the medics definitely need to be retrained for a situation like your son had.

I woke up first morning on our Europe cruise with what I decided felt like a sinus infection. Really didn't want to ruin our cruise and I went down to the medical center to see what they thought. Staff was super nice and the Dr ended up prescribing some over the counter cold medicines and told me to check back if I wasn't better in a couple days. Fortunately I did get better, the medicines helped. The bill was very reasonable in my opinion similar to a doctor's visit on land if you have a high deductible plan and have to pay out of pocket until you meet it. The medicine costs were not inflated either. They billed our state room and then our travel insurance reimbursed it all though once we got back and submitted the claim.

My key takeaway was the medical center staff is super helpful and wants to help. They don't instantly confine you to your cabin if you visit them. I'm sure that can happen when needed but clearly isn't their go to response. They do charge you for a visit though it seemed reasonable but I'm sure more serious things can get expensive quickly so have travel insurance.
