Senior citizen here, a little concerned about the long pier. Ive read where they will transport handicapped senior citizens. My question is will they also transport accompanying family members along with us?

Yes. Go to Guest Services and arrange for a ride to the tram for you and your group. The largest tram sits 8 people. If you've any younger adults they probably can walk it almost as fast as you can ride. On the trip back it's 'walk up' and they come fairly often (every 20 minutes, I think) to ride back to the ship.

We were there twice last month. They made an announcement that anyone needing transport was to meet somewhere - can’t remember where. They also gave the time. Seemed like they had everything in order for giving golf cart rides.

I watched people walk down the pier from my balcony . . . average time was 10 minutes from the ship to the island. I think it looks longer because there's nothing to see on the walk. They should put some potted plants on there when the ship arrives, break up the 'road'. Paint characters on the pavement?

There was on announcement on my cruise, both the day before and the morning of, telling people if they needed transportation assistance to meet in the theater during a specific time. I think you could go to the theater and tell them what time you needed a ride.

Last time we were at LC they posted a message in the app stating that if you needed transportation to meet in one of the lounges at a certain time. IIRC they did stress that it should only be the individual needing assistance, and others in the party should disembark normally.

On the way back I think they're less strict, and if there's room in the cart they'll take more people. But on the way 'out' there's usually a lot needing transportation so they limit it to just who needs it so they can get everyone across the pier in a more timely manner.

We timed it at 11 mins 8 seconds doing a leisurely stroll. This was to the island - not to the tram. Basically just the pier

Our experience on the Dream in December 2024:
We went with my FIL to drop him off at the designated location (I think the Buena Vista Theater). We were not first-thing in the morning, we ate breakfast and took our time, so a lot of people had probably already disembarked. They enthusiastically offered if any of us wanted to wait with him and have a ride, but the three of us opted to do the walk. It took us about 12-15 minutes (?), I'm a slow walker. We waited about 5 minutes at the other end and he pulled up. Easy peasy.
On the way back, it was just he and I while DH and his mom walked the nature trail. There was no problem with me hopping on the cart for a ride back with him, they didn't even ask.
