Lets See Rebel XT Night/Firework Photos.

Hi, I just purchased a new Rebel XT with kit 18-55 lens and the canon 50mm. I am new to DSLR’s but looking forward to learning more soon. I was wondering if anyone could post some nighttime/firework photos at WDW and if you could post the settings you shot them at that would be great.

Not exactly what you're asking for but these were taken using the original Rebel (non-XT) at 18mm using Sigma 18-125, ISO 100, f/13, 2 sec shutter

also at 18mm, ISO 100, f/4.5, 1/60 sec shutter

again at 18mm, ISO 100, f/10, 2 sec shutter

Why am I even bothering to plan on taking fireworks shots? You've got it covered for me and better than I'll ever be able to shoot them! These are really beautiful. I love the way you've framed the shots.

Thanks, but I've seen better fireworks pictures from other DISboard members such as We-Luv-Disney and many others. Mine are pale in comparison to theirs.

for some reason mine always look like they are really nervous and zig zag...must be the camera ... or maybe it's me trying not to use my tripod( not so )

This was captured with a Canon D30, an antique compared to your XT.

Kelly *is* good, but don't let really good images intimidate you, use them as inspiration and goals. Ask any of the photographers you admire for information on their images, try the same settings yourself, then put your own spin on them and improve upon them.

One of my photography teachers said "the best way to learn to photograph is by looking at photographs". I think he 'borrowed' the quote but it's still a good one.

I recorded the video of Wishes and memorized the music and timing for that sequence and count the approximate time in order to get that effect. The same goes with the other two shots

The middle shot is actually hand held because I zoomed in and metered the lighting on the prince and princess, zoomed out, focus on the castle, and full press the shutter, and set the aperture so it vignette a little bit. A tad tedious, but I got the shot I wanted. For me it's not so much of the result, but the rush to do all that in a split second. 'Twas lots of fun!

another thing, Bob, where was the location you took the pic from? I could never find a spot that high up to get the sky AND the pond/lake area. If you don't mind sharing, of course.

It's not actually one image, but two (what can I say?). They were both taken within seconds of each other, standing on a low wall between the two gift shops where World Showcase Lagoon meets Future World. It's probably the highest spot available for viewing Illuminations in that area.

The reason for two images is the exposure for the two elements is so different that there is almost no way to do this in one image. The Earth Globe, fountains, buildings, and some fireworks are from one image (1/20 @ f3.5), other fireworks are from the second image (1/45 @ f4.5). Both are at ISO 1600, with a monopod.

The original point (for the original post) is, if this can be done with a D30 imagine how much better it could be done with a Rebel XT, 3 generations improved!

I didn't meter off anything. I focused on the buildings across the way and set shutter and aperture manually based on research and past experience.

The pic I took posted above was ISO 200, f/8 for 5 seconds.
