Lets See Rebel XT Night/Firework Photos.

The spot we had was at the base of the bridge from Great Brittian to France on the Great Brittian side on the bottom level. My travel tripod was JUST big enough to peak over the railing. I shot at 24mm tilted up slightly.

Here in the UK, the Rebel XT is called the 350D and I bought one a few days ago specifically for visits to the States (X-rays in the airports and dis-satisfaction with developing and processing whilst there led me to this decision); can I say that the photos I have seen on this post have certainly been inspirational and now I can't wait to go there with my new camera. :)

One quick question, is there any problem with using a monopod in the parks?

Many thanks

David

Monopods, tripods, treepods,,, all no problem at all. Though some people might think you are a professional and/or work there (I think it was barrie that had that situation). But we'll keep that as our little secret,, ;) :thumbsup2

I think as long as you're not using movie-crane, you'll be fine. :)
[EVIL GRIN] hmmm, maybe I should rent a movie crane for better Illumination shots [/EVIL GRIN]

Here's a few taken with my 300D - the old Rebel in the US. The first is at Epcot, and is taken without a tripod, just in hand - as you can see by the fact that the building and globe are out of focus. Nevertheless, I think it shows the ability of the camera.

The next one is taken from our balcony at the Boardwalk, looking across to Yacht and Beach club, with Wishes in the background.

Not hand held this time, but, not on a tripod as I didn't have one with me. The camera is balanced on top of a stack of plastic tables which we had on the balcony, which was just high enough to clear the railings!

Next couple are on the same makeshift stand, but looking at Epcot for Illuminations...

Boss Hog great photos! What mode did you shoot them at? I looking forward to our December trip to take lots of photos with the XT.

The first one is a 2s shutter speed at f5, 18mm focal length with ISO of 100.
Second is 1.3s, f5.6 at 55mm and ISO 100.
Third is 2s, f13 at 25mm with ISO 100.
Last one is 2s, f11 at 25mm and ISO 100.

Definitely worth taking a tripod if you are going to watch fireworks if you want to get the whole pic in focus. Also, would recommend having a remote, or cable shutter release so you don't put any pressure on the camera when pressing the shutter.

I have some which are not fully in focus, but, I think that they look god nonetheless.

I plan to order a remote before our trip. What type of lens did you use? Right now I just have the kit lens and the Canon 50mm lens. I would like to the get the sigma 18-125/18-200 but not sure if I will be able to get it before the trip.

TIA

Not sure which lens was on the camera at the time, but I only have three lenses - all Canon. An 18-55 (kit lens on the 300D/Rebel), 28-80 (kit lens from my old 500N, which I think is the same as the film Rebel) and a 75-300 IS USM. In which case I would imagine that they were all taken with the 18-55 kit lens.

SNAP! Exactly what I am thinking of doing, I seem to remember someone posting on a thread recently (may have been Kelly) stating that the 18-125 was better than the 18-200, so I think I shall be going for this one. If you can get it before you go, it would be worth it, as it will cover a very useful focal range.

yup, it was me. The 18-125 is far better than the 18-200 to the point that I can use the 18-125 for some of my pro apps whereas I won't even use the 18-200 for walkaround (focusing issues beyond 135mm, super Chromatic Abberation, super pincushion and barrell distortion -- this one can't be avoided, it's plain physics of lenses, the longer the zoom the more distortion it's going to have, especially when the wide end is really wide... below 36mm [35mm equivalent])

Here are a couple of mine with my Rebel XT. They are nothing like previous posters but thanks to the hints of people on this board they are the best fireworks pix that I have got. hopefully next time will be even better. :thumbsup2

The last two pictures were taken using Sigma 18-125 w/ the original Rebel (non-XT) at ISO 1600 without cleaning and were taken without tripod.
