Let's close another attraction before we get there!

I understand the OP was just venting. But I would keep that kind of tongue and cheek vent private w/ friends. It's often posted on the boards about how bent out of shape people get when anything is closed. This wasn't exactly what the OP was doing but it did take me aback a bit that someone would be upset that some things weren't open when they were there to get things for free. As long as it doesn't close during "my" vacation...or... as long as it's open by teh time "I" get there. It's all so cecular and self-centered. Not necessarily the OP just a general statement about people. That's why people will react to that kind of vent quickly. I know it's what I thought as well. When you have thousands of different people reading in 1000 different moods, you'll get something read in a context that it wasn't meant to be. I've had it happen too. Just something to consider in the future when "venting". I know I post less and less not only here but where my friends and customers can follow just because all it takes is one wrong word, and I hate being misunderstood.

added: Space Mountain and a few other things were closed last time we were there. Just gave us more time to do other things.
To the OP, go and enjoy your free dining. I'm sure you'll ahve lots of other things to enjoy and TSM will be open on your next visit. Heck. I haven't' even BEEN to TSM yet, you have. Lucky!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

About time Disney spread those closures out more I say. After all, the free dining types already get their "perk" in the free dining. Since I'm trying to avoid the free dining types by going in January, this doesn't bother me one bit.

OMG!!!!!!!!!! What is a "free dining type"?
Should these types be avoided?
What do these "free dining types" do to make you want to avoid them so much?

They can't rehab everything at the same time. The last 2 summers, they closed Splash around the end of July. Why they choose to close a water ride in July, don't ask me, but anyway it was closed. So was Space Mountain.
We managed!

ETA : I got confused. Splash was closed during two of our late December/January trips.

After getting stuck on a broken down TSM on Thursday, I can understand why they need to refurbish it. The ride was closed a couple hours afterward. The ride was definitely having problems all day. Luckily the park was empty and I was able to go on 3 times. Love that ride. Was neat getting stuck inside and seeing everything lit up.

OP, I do understand. A month or two before our trip to Disneyland, I found out they were rehabbing the Indiana Jones ride the first 4 days of June, so we would have missed it entirely. I ranted a bit on the Disneyland forum, and people thought I was nuts. Apparently that is still the "off-season" by Disneyland standards..... :confused3

We ended up rescheduling our entire trip. We usually go to WDW, and Indy was just one of the DL specific things we were looking forward to most.

And yes.... my rant DID make me feel better. So go right ahead!!! :rotfl2: Seriously, sometimes it helps just to commiserate with others.

NOT DURING FREE DINING when your goal is to have MANY of us there ENJOYING our FAV rides????!!!! QUOTE]

Disney wants you in the restaurants spending money (which during free dining is for appies and tips) and not on the rides/in the attractions.

wait..where have we heard that before????:confused3

I am suddenly concerned as well! Please everyone, avoid these Free Dining Types!

Hey, if they offer free dining in December (fingers crossed!) I'll be there! Thus making me a "free dining type". So you all might want to stay home and avoid me, OK? Thus making all the lines that much shorter.........:rotfl:

Hey, wait a minute...

don't go giving Disney any ideas about closures in January. (when I'm supposed to be there)

:rolleyes1

OP, you share your disappointment all you want and I'll listen. That's what these boards are for! My kids are really going to miss StarTours while it is down...but I guess we'll have to schedule another trip when it reopens!

My all-time favorite WDW attraction is The Haunted Mansion and I remember several years ago finding out 2 weeks before we were leaving for our trip that it was going to be closed. I was SO upset. But, while I missed riding it, my trip was still great. Focus on the positive. :)

Sorry but I have to disagree with the OP. Free dining is the perfect time to rehab. You are already getting a huge discount on your WDW package. For such a big discount I think you can endure a few rehabs.

In contract - I would be upset if I was traveling say during spring break or Christmas and had a bunch of rehabs. When you pay premium rates with no freebies - everything shoudl be open.

Which is why I was upset to find a headliner at Disney would be closed in early June.

I don't think they do it that time of year to make everything even in some grand cosmic scheme though because they are getting such a discount with free dining.

Rather, they are offering FD in the first place, AND doing the rehabs then for the same reason..... it's one of the slowest times of the year because:

1) school is back in session and most won't pull kids out right after it starts

2) it's still nasty hot and

3) it's peak hurricane season.

I believe free dining started after the horrible hurricane season of 2004.

OMG, WDW....like OMG....

First, you take away Toy Story Mania before our 8/18 arrival, then Small World, then Star Tours???!!!! C'MON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How about you wait until JANUARY?????? NOT DURING FREE DINING when your goal is to have MANY of us there ENJOYING our FAV rides????!!!! GEEEEESSSHHHH!!!!!:confused3

Ok, anyone else going in that time frame can hop on the vent train with me...toot, toot....let's go! :sad2:

Or, how about you don't wait to close it all in January? How about us that love to visit the World in January, despite the closures that we know will take place? DD couldn't do her #1 favorite ride in January because it was closed. And, look at that, our vacation was still full of magical happiness!

Things need to be scheduled for refurb. And the refurb scheduling needs to be shared, and shared fair!

I think it is completly understandable to be disapointed with a favorite ride closure, so if you are upset I say go ahead and complain:)

I also understand that the rides do need to be maintained to keep the quality of the experience and safety of the guest a number one priority, so I just look at the closures as a reason we need to go back:rotfl2:

hmmmm this comment about the "free dinning types" confuses me however. I have always gone on free dinning and didn't know I had a type! If the op meant not rich, well this is true. If they meant I want a good value for my dollar also true. That being said I have found most of the poeple at the park during free dinning were nice, down to earth, normal people just having fun so if that is the "free dining type" count me in! :confused3

Excellent news. I feel a lot safer now.

I will also be taking advantage of FD. We are from the uk and will be there in November. If that person meant that the free dining types were the poor peole, I'd like them to know that our trip has cost us over $5000 and that's before we even think about spending money. FD equals a welcome saving for me and I do not feel like a third world citizen or any kind of TYPE.

Exactly what am I? I have gone for free dining twice before and again this year, and have gone three times without. Am I a half breed of free dining, a mudblood if we were at universal with Harry Potter? Should I wear a scarlet "F" on my head to signify that I am dining for free?pirate:

How the heck did this thread turn into "free dining type" bashing?!? I'm offline for a couple hours... :rolleyes1

"Free dining types" didn't spend any less money to go to Disney than anyone else getting a discount on a room...

Sorry, I think it was my fault. But someone made a bit of a rude comment about free diners and I thought I'd stick up for them since I will be one in November.

Andrew*A, I'll be a free diner with you and be proud of it!!!

Actually, we would go any time in the summer around other things going on as long as the airfare was most inexpensive. And it happened to be $109 cheaper a ticket the third week in August, which happened to be free dining. Beleive me, I started checking in March when we dediced we could afford it and the deal we got has been the best so far. Last year we went the first week of August for that reason, and Space Mountain was down, mind you...endured that closure and lived to tell about it and enjoyed my vacation. However, all of my family is coming this time which is RARE that we all can go, are healthy, and will be able to enjoy rides together for once. My disappointment would be dimished if it was just DD, DH, and me going because we're usually able to go once a year.

So, what-evs....enjoying my venting... ;)
