OMG, WDW....like OMG....

First, you take away Toy Story Mania before our 8/18 arrival, then Small World, then Star Tours???!!!! C'MON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How about you wait until JANUARY?????? NOT DURING FREE DINING when your goal is to have MANY of us there ENJOYING our FAV rides????!!!! GEEEEESSSHHHH!!!!!:confused3

Ok, anyone else going in that time frame can hop on the vent train with me...toot, toot....let's go! :sad2:

Hey, I am all for getting together to make a better park.

For us-- the less stuff I have to fit on my plan the better.

But it did seem the more I read the more stuff i closing--and honey said will we be getting a discount---(LOL)

Read today that a lot of the stuff on the outside of the stores and rides (shims??) were taken down.

PS- I think the Janaury people will experience a lot of closures too

What are your dates? Star Wars isn't closed until September 8 .. but its listed as 09/08/10 so maybe you thought it was August 9? Unless you are super lucky and going to Disney for a month you should still get to do Star Tours.

is toy stoy mania closed? how could that be with the 3rd movie just coming out?

actually rehabs during free dining makes sense.
if people are coming to take avantage of eating, then closing a couple
rides will effect less people.

And isn't sept one of the slowest times of the year very simular to jan?
so from an attendance point of view very little difference.
No matter when the close it, it will be during someones vacation so it's not fair to say they all should be done in jan.

I just figure it's luck of the draw no matter when you go.
In the last view years have gone in jan, july, april.
and have had various rides closed each time.

You'll still have plenty to do, don't worry, you'll have fun.

Don't worry about it. You will still have fun! When I went, they had Splash Mt. and Test Track down. But I still had lots of fun:)

They have to close them some time, and have to plan out the work across each park. I know how bad it sucks, to have a major draw closed during your trip. We've had Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and Pirates down during different trips. All must do's for us. You just have to go with the flow and remember there are still way too many things to do at the parks anyway.

I understand your frustration but I think if you take a step back it will make sense. It won't make you happy but it will make sense. The reason they do "free dining" is becuase that time was traditionally a dead period. Now that they do free dining they know that the people that want to come for that "perk" will come even if it closes a few attractions.(as you are evidence of) It is win win for them. They put more people in the parks than they used to and still can refurb. Believe it or not the goal of free dining is not to get you there enjoying your favorite rides. The goal is to get you there spending the money you would have used on food on merchandise.

I'm surprised that TSM and IASW are closed while we're there in August. I think that August is normally pretty busy still. Luckily we do get a chance to see Star Tours one last time though.

TSM needs a refurb.... we always had at least one blury room each of the times we rode it. It was typically the balloon room, but was also the last room with the flip up targets and then the railroad carts... made it tough to score.

Even once, my shooter was shooting about 30 degrees to the right of where I was aiming. It took two rooms to figure out why I wasn't scoring much.

Actually August was/is a slower period for full fare visitors - that's why they offer free dining at that time of year

About time Disney spread those closures out more I say. After all, the free dining types already get their "perk" in the free dining. Since I'm trying to avoid the free dining types by going in January, this doesn't bother me one bit.

People go in January too. We are, and love that time of year, so do many others. And if they did close a few rides(which they often do) I wouldn't be whining about it, sure it might not be that great to miss out on a couple of rides, but they have to do work at some time, if they shut everything down all at once to do their rehabs no one would come for however long that period is.

So stop complaining and remember you're going to be in the most magical place on earth, no matter what, have fun. There is more to the experience then just rides. In fact I would think most people would agree that the rides are only a small percentage of what makes Disney such a wonderful place to visit.

You'll still have fun. :wizard:

Too may rides down? Might be a good time to run over to Universal and catch Harry Potter

Seriously though, I'm glad you pointed this out as I'm planning our trip for next summer to be around the last week of August. We've been in Late August before and I dont' recall this many attractions being down.

I might have to re-think the plan. Then again, a non-theme park trip could be fun too.

Yep, it stinks, but there isn't much else they can do. It's likely a fairly highly needed refurb (hence the very start of the value season) and it needs to be up in time for the ST shutdown (which will likely last until next May(ish)). ST couldn't be pushed back as the opening date is intended to be for next year's SWW. Teeny Tiny window there (and it was originally 8/15-9/4, they shrunk it down considerably).

The other attractions (ISAW and One Man's Dream) likely have similar needs and windows (ISAW most likely technical while OMD may be contractual) and there isn't much they could do.

Jan-Early Feb has its own slew of refurbs (Splash Mtn comes to mind, and usually a few others) just like Mid Aug - Sept does.

In the end, if this makes or breaks the trip for you, perhaps you should plan on going at another time when refurbs are less likely to be happening? (Of course, it's pricier, no FD, and crowds are heavier.. every season has its drawbacks)

i understand that these are some of your favorite attractions .. but my last trip, space mountain was closed and its my FAVORITE and ... i barely noticed! there is so much else to ride and see, it actually got me out of my old routines and i rode some things i never have before - like carosel of progress :thumbsup2

My DD was talking to a CM about the changes that are happening on Star Tours and I for one and VERY excited about them closing it and re doing it!! It was a cute but very often skipped attraction for us, but after the rehab I think it's going to be a must do for sure! :thumbsup2

If I had my way IASW and One Man's Dream would NOT be closed while we are there  .... but they are and there are plenty more things to do. I am really thankful that we are able to go for one more flit around Toontown. :)

Of course there is an advantage to closures when you go - it means start thinking of the next trip!
