Hi!
Another quick question from a newbie. I know that check out time at the DVC is 11AM. Has anyone been successful at getting a late check out at a DVC or is that something you just don't request? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

There is no late check out at DVC--the next member is waiting for your room?? They usually start to knock on you door around 9 to 10 to make sure you are not trying to stretch your stay for another day. Check out is 11 am I personally usually get out at 5 am when I leave to get out of town.

the DVC resorts do not offer late check outs.

We've always assumed that it's due to the amount of time needed to properly clean the villas (compared to a standard hotel room). Also, the DVC resorts generally run at higher average occupancy rates than the other resorts.

On your check out day, you can always check your luggage with Bell Services while you enjoy the amenities of the resort or a day at a park.

Best wishes -

Although the stated policy is no late checkouts, I know from firsthand experience tht exceptions have been made. We checked in around 12:30, and were told that our room wouldn't be ready for several hours because the people in the room were given late checkout! As DH pointed out to me, perhaps an exception was made due to an ill family member. This was in 2003, at HH, not WDW, where maybe it would be different.

Although I have not read any reports of late check outs being granted at the WDW DVC resorts, I have read at least one post that said they were denied - even though they had a sick child.

I think the policy is pretty firm at the WDW DVC resorts. It never hurts to ask, though.

Best wishes -

I kind of knew, deep down, the logical answer to this question. I am sure that the heavy cleaning that they do on the units takes time. thank you for your responses.

I'm thinking that prehaps any late check-outs that you've heard are people who are staying at the resort on cash, not DVC points. As we all know anyone can make ressies at any DVC resorts, they are not just for DVC members. On time we were staying at Vero on cash ressies, we didn't say anything about being DVC members, and wanted late check-out (it was only an Inn room) and were told no. Hubby and I joked that they must have known were were members and that's why they said no.

My very first DVC stay was last May, and they woke me up about 7 am wanting me OUT OF THERE. I promise I had to bolt the door. They came back 3 more times before 11.

I had it timed to the minute to check out at 11am. If I had not had my door bolted they would have come in while I was in the shower - they tried. I told them each and every time that I was not leaving until 11. It was the Friday before a holiday weekend, and I think they were desperate to get every thing ready on time.

We got a 1 pm checkout once. But that was only because they deactivated our keys at 10 am by mistake and we lost time loading the car and showering. One of us had to stay in the room during loading. I don't know why they couldn't reactivate the keys or give new ones.

Yiii! I've never had a problem like this in many, many visits. I do have a little trick for checkout day - the night before, I hang out the 'do not disturb' sign. I'm usually ready to go by 10 to 10:30 am, but I don't apreciate the prodding. I don't usually get my rooms till check in time, so I don't wish to be rushed.

On one occasion we received late checkout at Vero Beach. We arrived just before 4 pm. We did not get our room till 6pm. We had driven down from WDW for just one night. They extended our checkout till 12 noon.

That just made me laugh, we were staying at The Grand Californian at DL (obviously not a DVC story but...) and I woke up to find the housekeeper cleaning the bathroom (we had been evacuated from the hotel at 2am due to a false fire alarm and apparently forgot to BOLT the door when we came back). I very polietly told the Housekeeper we were still there and still sleeping (it wasn't even our check out day) and she said I know I am just cleaning the bathroom, I will get the beds later...although it was kind of funny that she thought that was acceptable I was like WHAT, no, come back later....

Anyway, having worked both Wilderness Lodge and Old Key West, I have only seen one or two late check outs and they were for someone being ill in the party and was only granted beause we were not sold out and could go without the room. Most members that know they are going to be staying late just book the room for an extra night so they can have it all day and leave at their leisure. Even non-members are denied late check out, in my experience and explained the same thing, due to the size of the units it is necessary for housekeeping...blah blah blah.

I figure we can't have it both ways.... we want late check out and our room ready when we arrive at noon LOL!

1) I know people who have done it.
2) Of course, I would never do it.
3) To get a later check-out (maybe Noon, or so)
. . . check out at 10:30am-11:00am
. . . make sure someone is still in the room
. . . go back and relax for a hour or so
. . . just let housekeeping do their thing when they arrive
. . . explain you are just finishing up
. . . leave at your desired time

You can check out as late as you want, all you have to do is book the additional night.

Why is everyone always looking for something for nothing?

That is so funny!

I had my do not disturb sign out and that did nothing to deter them. I think we had a language barrier also.

On our first trip to SSR in Sept, we were in the process of loading the car (took several trips - luggage carts for each building would be a GREAT help!) and had one more load to go. We came back to our room for the last load at 11:05 AM to find the Do Not Disturb sign still on the door and housekeeping already in the room and going through our Disney bags that we had left for the last trip to the car.

They do more than just knock! Last year I took the boys to Epcot on departure morning so DW could finish packing and rest up a bit. When we returned at 10:45, someone was in the room cleaning and had been at it for a while, even DW was there the whole time!

We frequently have housekeeping knocking on our door on checkout day at DVC. Once at 730!!!! I think that's a little ridiculous.

They must be under a lot of pressure to get rooms cleaned. I guess it's frustrating when remaining rooms are still occupied and deadlines [and supervisors] are looming.

poohj80, I'm jeasous you're gonna be at Disney's HHI so soon.
