Tonight was the conclusion of the Member Day Celebration- held each Tuesday at the BWV.
The festivities began promptly at 5:30pm with a welcome from Deevie Cee, official spokeswoman.
Members present were all given DVC logo lanyards and a pin to trade with other members or the great group of CM's present. A "mixer" event invited members to complete a card with various challenges related to DVC- CM's, other members and personal knowledge were needed to complete the card. Once complete it was turned to be eligible for a drawing for a free II week. (Tonight's was won by a BCV member from Michigan.)
Since we had a 60% chance of afternoon/evening thunderstorms, the barbecue was cancelled at BCV so we grabbed dinner (and an adult beverage) at Big River Grille on the BW before the guest speaker of the evening. There were games/dancing for the children in front of Atlantic Dance. Mickey and Minnie were available as dance partners!
Tonight's speaker was Greg Emmer, VP of Attractions/Operations Line of Business with Disney. His presentation was titled, "The Stewardship of Disney Heritage and Legacy."
His talk was similar to what he presents to upper level management at WDW and was very thought provoking and stimulating. It covered the process used by all Disney management areas in stimulating their CM's towards the common goal of the company- To Make WDW the most special place in the world. He asked the audience of DVC members for examples of tangible and intangible concepts that affect how we all think and feel about all that is Disney.
While the Member Day Celebration has, at times, seemed disorganized, the program has evolved over the summer and I hope to see it return in the future. The concept was designed to get members together, provide an atmosphere for socializing - all in a setting suitable for an unknown crowd size each week. IMO, it did a great job of meeting those goals.
I'm certain DVC will thoroughly examine the positive and negative points of the event and use that analysis to come up with something bigger and better for the future.
Thanks to all who attended and who created the event.
