Child finger scan with card?

If a 4 year old has the card, do they still do a finger scan? Thinking finger scan will be hard for a 4 year old. We did buy her a mb though.

They do require a finger scan. You may use your finger if you want, but then you have to be with your child every time they can in. Otherwise, they have to call in a helper to reset the scanner.
My children have gone to WDW since they were little, and yes, it can be a pain to scan their finger. We just try to laugh it off when it doesn't work for them. Using a parent's finger works the best if that it an option that makes sense for you.

Way back when, children did not have finger scans because their fingers would outgrow the scan data from the last visit, resulting in added delays at the turnstiles. The quickest way to resolve problems back then was to reset the scanner to treat the ticket as new first time usage.

Actually I think it would expedite things today if during busy times the finger scanners automatically gave a green light after, say, three quarters of a second,, unless the the blue light criteria was satisfied more quickly. The delay would be so people thought that the scanner was still active.

they used to not finger when my son was little but now they do for everyone.

One tip....make sure you notate which finger your child actually uses on the first scan. Our first trip with our 5y old niece my SIL didn't pay attention to what finger my niece used. Next park had to go thru 7 little piggies before we got the right one

I just use my finger for my kids ticket, it's faster.

Card or MB does not matter.
A finger scan is required.
Many times with kids that young a parent will do it but you have to remember that the parent that does it must enter the parks with the child every time. So you can't take your child to EPCOT and then later have the child's grandparent take them to MK.

You can try to explain to the child what they do and see if you think they will be able to.
It actually should not be too difficult as long as you know which finger they used and remind them each time to use that finger.

Honestly, I've tried to explain this to adults and they still mess it up! I swear I could be half-way down Main Street before some people I know remember which finger to use. I think a kid can probably handle it, possibly better!

I believe there is also an option to have a photo matched to a MB/card. It requires a CM with an iPad to visit each time the child enters the park but is another option when the finger does not work. It also opens the option for the child to enter the park with different people - parents, grandparents, etc.

My brother is not comfortable with scanning their fingers so each person has their picture taken the first time they enter the parks and then after that it's how they are matched to their MBs/tickets.

I will say it's been a few years since they visited so fingerprints may now be mandatory?

No fingerprints are captured that is just an Urban legend. It is biometric scanning technology. The scanner takes an image of your finger, converts it into a unique numerical value, and then compares it to a corresponding stored value associated with your from your initial scan.

Thanks! She is my granddaughter and we wanted to take her alone but our son said they were going to use their finger for her (as some of you suggested) which would make me unable to take her. Just was looking for a work-around, but maybe we will go do minigolf or something instead. Does she need a scan to do that since it's included in the package?

No, she will not require a finger scan to mini-golf. Have fun!!

It only takes a couple minutes to recode the fiber scan. You can switch it to your finger and then her parents can switch it back. If you just say "she uses a parent finger and they aren't here" they can call someone right away.

No, they're not mandatory now. My mom can't get a consistent finger scan, so she did biometric opt out in April and used it today.

When we visited in April, our youngest (5) had perpetual residue on her fingers from whatever the last snack she ate was, so her finger scans were never consistent. Eventually, they just had a cast member take a picture of her with an iPad and then that was used to verify identify for entry. So that is always an option as well. As others have stated, you can also use a parent's fingerprint, too; but then that parent always needs to be present with them for them to enter the park. But if they aren't there, it's no big deal, they will just take a new scan or do a picture.
