ROFR Thread April to June 2025 *PLEASE SEE FIRST POST FOR INSTRUCTIONS & FORMATTING TOOL*

I just can’t get over the idea of wanting to book as a resale owner but my dates are all taken and then I have no other options. I guess it’s less of a nightmare if you have a ton of flexibility or the ability to always plan a year out.

Resale point owners for sure need to book early and recognize flexibility will be care if changes are warranted.

It’s not the product for everyone.

And on the resale contract point, just noting you can exchange your DVC points into Interval International. My understanding is that you have up to 45 days before your UY ends and once you exchange the into II, you have 2 years to use them. So, if the "worst case scenario" comes true with respect to restricted resorts, and you have resale contract holders who can't book, perhaps that will become a more popular option than it is now.

I have a feeling that DVD might end up being a little more flexible with banking in situations like this when there are no options.
I would not count on it? I suppose it’s possible if you haven’t banked before but I have had them refuse for me when missing a deadline by less than a couple days. I would be cautious because Disney won’t have strong motivation to protect RIV resale pricing once the tower is sold out. If people get frustrated and sell, they get cheap points to flip into direct.

So resale is eligible for II, just not the Disney travel portfolio?

4) Aulani- Surge of contracts by some commercial buyers have really hit prices. Buy points cheap and create a drop down product for West Coast buyers. Yes, they already have inventory points for this…. but maybe not as many as everyone thinks…. especially if they can buy them for $76-$86pp….
AUL makes absolute zero sense unless they are close to selling out and they usually announce that when a property is near or over 95% sold out
Something else going on, maybe somebody pressed the wrong button and it’s too late to back track now

I also don’t really see AUL as a west coast product, it’s its own thing out there in the big blue a long way from a theme park

Oh I definitely didn't factor that into my decision to purchase. I'm just thinking out loud that resale contracts at restricted resorts is pretty new territory for them. The inability to rebook b/c of the one resort option in situations where people have unforeseen circumstances and need to cancel could become a headache for them. There's no way to know how many people this could impact in a given year. But I don't really see them telling someone "oh well" and forcing them to forfeit their points. I did see the mention of II exchanges, but I've never even looked into that so I guess that could be the option of last resort.

It is 1000% a West Coast product. There are a ton of affordable flights that go direct to Hawaii from all of the major cities and it’s actually the same distance to Orlando as it is to Honolulu for most of us.

It’s just like Hilton Head and Vero are mostly east coast products.

Its definitely a West Coast product for me and is the main reason I still am a DVC owner. I live in Vancouver and with so many cheap, direct flights combined with DVC bookings at Aulani makes an affordable vacation for my family.

Just bought my tickets to Honolulu today and paid a painful $636 each for coach from PDX on Alaska/Hawaiian. That is not affordable IMO. For kicks, I looked up the cost for a trip to MCO for the same dates and it would be $507 each but I could also use my companion fare for that to lower my cost.

Doesn’t PDX in general tend on the high side for west coast flight costs? Or maybe I misremember.

The most amazing part of flight costs to me is how they really don’t seem to have followed inflation. I recall similar west coast to Hawaii costs in the 90s. But of course now airlines just have tons of hidden fees that never used to exist. So I guess they are still increasing in cost, just in ways that are more difficult to compare.

For me, the difficulty with Aulani and Hawaii is less the airfare (it is certainly more expensive than MCO), but just the pure amount of time flying and time change. I flew into SFO a few days ago for a work trip from PHL, and man am I am struggling with the time change. HNL? With my young kids? I just predict complete and total disaster. Maybe when they're older.

It is generally cheaper to fly from SeaTac instead of Portland. However, I live in Portland so the 2.5 hour drive plus parking costs in Seattle makes it a no for us. I haven't looked at costs flying from other West Coast cities. It wouldn't surprise me if it's cheaper in other cities because PDX is smaller than other airport cities such as Seattle, San Francisco, LA, so we don't get the same volume of flights/options.

The Alaska/Hawaiian merger has cut the flights from Portland. The ability to use the Alaska Companion Fare on Hawaiian starting later this year should help to alleviate that.

I don’t know when you are going, but if it’s for the summer then Hawaii SHOULD be more than the Devil’s breath of Florida!

West Coast to Hawaii is a 3 hour time difference…. but it’s MUCH worse flying to FL and having it be 3 hours the other way!
