Larger women in bikinis?

I have just lost 40 pounds since the fall-25 to 30 more to go. I am 46 years old but if I reach my goal weight before I go on my cruise in August, I may just buy one. Don't know if I will wear it, but I will buy it! I have never worn a bikini even when I could. I am thinking you are never too old.

Congrats on the weight loss! Definitely go for that bikini! :thumbsup2

This thread reminds me being judged based on what I was wearing.

I was running with my double jogger on busy street- my kids were about 2 and 6 months.
I was probably about 25 pounds overweight.

Picture it with me if you will 85 degrees outside, I am wearing a tank and capris for the 2 mile run,

Someone yelled out their car "Fat W$((&&@".

I kid you not- to this day I hate running outside because I am afraid of a repeat. But I do it none the less.

Someone mentioned it earlier- but we should be happy for people getting outside and enjoying life- doing healthy things. Instead we give them evil glances and whispered comments.

FWIW my 73 year old grandad wears a speedo pretty much throughout the year because he lives in so cal- has a pool in his backyard and works out. You bet he has a gut but he can also lift 750 pounds with his legs.

I would definitely wear a bikini if I didn't have stretch marks- I work hard to stay healthy but I am not going to torture myself to maintain a size 2.

I believe I told you why I started it. I was interested in people's opinions because in my experience it seems like people differ on their views of obese men and swim attire and obese women and swim attire.

You're right, I didn't answer this in my initial post. Both dh and I are 15 lbs over our ideal weight. I wear a tankini with a skirt and dh wouldn't be caught dead without a shirt with his swimsuit. So for our family, we have the same type of tummy cover up.

That is just so mean spirited! I don't get what would possess someone to be so cruel.

ehh. I don't look at them as cruel, I look at them as stupid idiots. Makes what they say not be hurtful, but be ridiculous.....

This thread came at such a convenient time for me.

A friend took me shopping for a new bathing suit to wear to Disney World next week. I was all set to go for a one piece because I am about 10 pounds over my ideal weight and I have some stretch marks from my pregnancy and my mid section is rather soft though I have recently started improving that situation. However, my friend convinced me I look good in the bikini I chose (similar in style to the bathing suit the first plus size model was wearing).

While I would not wear a bikini if I was massively overweight I applaud the women who do have the confidence to wear one at that size. Does it mean they have an inaccurate vision in their head of how they look? Perhaps. But I dearly wish I was that comfortable in my own skin.

To sum up, my new bikini is in a double digit size, 10 on bottom and 14 on top but that is for a reason few straight men would object to (needed the larger size on top to avoid certain things popping out and scarring random children for life). So, if anyone is going to be at CBR or Typhoon Lagoon from Saturday to Saturday and would be offended by a size 10 woman in a properly fitting and relatively full coverage bikini you best avert your eyes. At least until Tuesday, after that I will be nursing a sunburn and probably won't be spending much time by the pool.

GOOD FOR YOU!

Wear it and wear it proud! There will always be people that feel they can say awful things like what was said on this thread:sad2:

Who calls a fellow human a "huge eyesore"? A very weak person who has hang ups about themselves.

NEVER allow insecure, cruel people like that to dictate how you feel about yourself or what you wear.

GO FOR IT!!:worship:

I have been called mean, nasty names and I am calling it what it is, cruel. Words hurt.

Thank you for your kind words. I have worked hard, not for anyone else but for myself. If someone wants to wear a bikini, I say go for it, I have two daughters that struggle everyday with their weight. One does wear a bikini and she looks fine. It also makes her happy and that is the only thing that matters. They are both so much more than their weight and it is sad that some people can't see past this because they are so shallow.

The same thing that possesses them to laugh and post on "people of Walmart" and other websites dedicated solely to put people down. It is a low, nasty, mean sense of humor, and you are right, it's downright cruel.

I live forty minutes from Boston, my son was 200 feet watching the race with his girlfriend. They are safe but it makes you think how short life could be and sometimes is. What a waste of human time to post mean pictures and saying cruel things when time on earth is so precious. I am not usually so emotional but times like this make you really think how you want to live your life and what is really important!

Oh, I hope you do. I know seeing the pictures that NH posted has made me feel a lot better about being in a bathing suit.

That's just terrible. I can imagine how you felt. I grew up in Michigan and moved away when I was 12. I went back to visit my grandmother when I was 16 and was standing on her porch and this boy I knew (and had a crush on) when I was little rode past on his bike with his friend and he saw me and yelled out, "You sure got fat!" In reality, I probably was about 10 pounds overweight, if that, but it cut to the bone. I still remember the humiliation I felt.

But...he was just a stupid, immature teenaged boy and they person who yelled that at you was a stupid ***. Their opinions do not matter in the least.

I am always happy when I see a very overweight person at the pool - good for them.

I'm sure you look wonderful! Interesting to note that the two people on here who I know are men said positive things about non-skinny women. Plus, there's the video the other guy shared. . Wear it proudly.

ETA: Yuck! I don't know how all that happened. Hope you can read it.

I agree.
I always thought People of WalMart was very mean. I am sure many of those people exploited on that website are mentally ill. Why would you post a picture of a stranger to make fun of them?

We were just in Hawaii for Spring Break. I bought a couple new bikinis to wear on the beach. I figured, if not now, when? It isn't as if my husband is going to be shocked at what my body looks like after 20 years together and I don't really care what anyone else thinks. The first day on the beach, I went out and guess what EVERY other woman out there was wearing a bikini. Kid you not. All ages, all body types. Everyone. I seriously did not see a single woman in a one piece. I am sure they were there but not near where we were hanging out.

After that, I didn't think twice about wearing the bikini.

I'm curious how everyone here feels about overweight women and bathing suits. Do you think it's ok for overweight/obese women to wear a bikini top
and swim shorts? By swim shorts I don't mean the fitted "boy short bottoms," but more sporty running short shaped swim shorts.

To me, it's no different than overweight/obese men wearing swim trunks. Is it different to you? If you think overweight women shouldn't wear bikini tops, do you think overweight men should wear tshirts or rash guards to swim in?

I do not like to see men without t shirts they look gross (unless they are in shape) and heavier women in bikini's are also gross. Sorry if that is an unpopular opinion but if I want to see flab and stretch marks I can look in my own mirror.

Are there really THAT many mentally ill people? If you dress like the people of Wal Mart you are LOOKING to be noticed. And what about the horrible tee shrits with boardering on obscene sayings...is that okay too. Sorry to me it is visual pollution.

I am so sorry. I hope your son and girlfriend were not too badly shaken up. (Though of course I'm sure they were).
