Larger women in bikinis?

And I see it quite the opposite. What other topic allows people to call others horrible, mean names because of how they look?

I never hear someone comment on a debt thread that someone is gross or shameful or eyesores.

Maybe because the debt thread is about money and this is about swim wear/appearances. Same reason nobody has mentioned Dave Ramsey or mortgages and credit cards on this thread about bikinis

I was really just calling out the hypocrisy of her comments! Now if you will excuse me I have to go out to the neighborhood play ground and bully some kids!

That is not what you are doing. You are defending someone who calls over weight people who wear bikinis gross. You believe this to be okay and that says something. Calling someone "gross" is a childish behavior and it is what a middle schooler would say. Most people have been tactful and basically said they wouldn't do it or recommend it. This poster was very insulting and you are just defending bad behavior.

I don't have a clue what the last sentence is supposed too mean.

So what I'm gathering here, is its ok to think something just as long as you don't say it. You can THINK someone looks horrible, just as long as you SAY they look beautiful. Because being fake is so much better than being honest....

Don't forget to kick some puppies, too, while you're at it. (j/k)

Since I'm the first person on this thread to mention the hanging pannus, is what I said more acceptable since I used medical terminology vs. the word "gross"?

I also said "apron flesh", which is a little bit of a descriptive variation on "apron area" which you will often hear morbidly obese people speak of as a spot on the body where uncomfortable chafing will develop when it is hot out.

I don't think there is a judgement in what either of us said in that regard, because it is purely descriptive. Honestly, when a person does have that particular anatomical configuration due to excess weight, it tends to be rather uncomfortable to let the layers of skin come into contact with one another. therefore, having fabric covering the area to suspend and contain it tends to increase personal comfort, even if it might look restrictive to an onlooker.

Oh I never called any one particular person gross just that I find rolls of skin hanging out of a bikini gross!!

Actually, you called double digit sized women gross. Or Army Wives. Take your pick.

Truth is, you did call a particular group out.

I just want you to know it is not ok to call people gross or eyesores. Can you teach your children that?

IMOP if the size of you bathing suit is double digits then you probably shouldn't be wearing bikini! A one piece, tankini, a two piece with a skirt yes string bikini NOOOOOO!!! Sorry but it is gross and I cringe every year when we head out to pool on post because young Army wives are the worst offenders!! !

I don't even find "middle schooler" insulting:upsidedow

I can't believe somebody who has slung some pretty nasty names and phrases on this thread has the nerve to even say "middle schooler" is an insult.

No, I mean middle schoolers themselves are not even that insulting -i knw mine are not!

Surely you've heard the saying, "if you can't say something nice, say nothing"?

No I am defending her right to have an opinion on the matter without being attacked by a group of saints who would never and have never uttered a shallow comment about anyone.

Or just act like you don't make shallow comments for the sack of appearing to be a superior species on the DIS!

I guess I should have phrased that differently. You asked a question and then everybody ELSE is getting mad because someone's answer is not what they want to hear or have a different opinion. You have remained pretty neutral through this discussion. :)

I think there is a right way of giving an opinion and a wrong way. Calling people names or telling them they look man offensive way is different.

I wouldn't expect you too!! I do however love your do as I say attitude though! Oh I never called any one particular person gross just that I find rolls of skin hanging out of a bikini gross!! Fat is not cute and it is not healthy and no matter how you slice it it being over weight has will have a negative effect on your life!

Put whatever spin on it that makes you feel better!

Well yes some things should not be said i if it would hurt someone's feelings. You learn that in preschool. Most people don't go around saying what ever pops in their head. It's not being fake, it is being nice.

I am a saint because I choose not to call people gross.

They don;t use those terms because they are not relevant to that discussion - but trust me there is some ugliness going on in any thread where someone discusses (1) welfare/food stamps or (2) going to disney when they are in debt.

Oh, and don't forget the threads where people are called 'tacky' or 'superficial' if they have cash bars or ask for money for wedding gifts.

Not saying it's right, but those insults are never called out the way weight-related ones are.
