Larger women in bikinis?

Yeah I googled that and one of the results was 'hanging pannus ' ... which IMO should NOT be paired with the word bikini ...

I consider myself fairly educated and have absolutely no idea what that term even means--off to google.

I wear the swim shorts all the time but it has to be midriff covering tankini tops with it. No bikini tops. I did do bikini tops when I was younger and weighed 30 pounds less.

I couldn't care less what men wear. Or what other women wear. But if my midriff sticks out over the clothing it's going to be covered in public.

You referred to her as a "middle schooler" in a derogatory manner and I am pretty sure it was meant to be insulting.

Oh my.

You have said some very horrible things on this thread about overweight people ( "gross, I cringe, giant muffin top, I am embarrassed for women, fat rolls, huge eyesore, failure, shameful, make a fool of themselves, don't cry when you end up on the people of Wal Mart") and you are calling someone out for saying "middle schooler"?

So girls who wear bikinis have confidence.....that doesn't mean that those of us who prefer more modest appearances have low self esteem or lack self confidence. It just means we choose not to expose as much of ourselves to the world.....And rock a one piece just as well as others rock a bikini! But don't ask a question if you don't want people's honest answers.

:confused3 I'm the one who asked the question? I don't think I ever said anything but that I did want honest answers?

But don't ask a question if you don't want people's honest answers.

Honest answers should not include cruel names. We are trying to teach our children in our schools not to bully. How can we when adults feel it is fine to call clean, confident women gross? Eyesores? Shameful? Fools?

What was the original question that would need an answer of gross?

You referred to her as a "middle schooler" in a derogatory manner and I am pretty sure it was meant to be insulting. You are right I don't know you but I know people and I can bet you are no saint and have had your fair share of judgmental moments maybe not towards overweight people but I am sure you have had s shallow statement or 2 for the appearance of someone. She said it because her opinion was asked and she was not targeting your daughter but I will say this if in fact you daughter is overweight like the those women in the picture then IMOP a bikini may not be the best suit for her . I if I had an overweight daughter I would encourage her to pick something else to wear even at the risk of hurting her feelings because I would not want her to be made fun of by her peers or anyone else and letting her out the house in appropriate clothing would make her a target for just that.

I have two middle schoolers myself so if I insulted her I guess I insulted them too. It is what a middle schooler would say.

Don't even think for a second i am going to take parenting advice from someone who has no problem calling a person "gross"! Don't worry about my daughter, seems like you should be looking beyond your mirror instead.

I find middle schoolers to be less insulting.

I think to each their own~ I personally wouldn't wear a biniki unless my bod was bikini ready KWIM ? And my DH is a chubber and I always make him wear a Tshirt at our pool ;)

I suppose that for the sake of argument, we *could* give it the benefit of the doubt and assume that poster actually *meant* "large", which would be accurate by Merriam-Webster. <sigh>

As for bikinis and having to wear them to prove you are self-confident ... nah. Fashion is one's own preference, and I haven't WANTED to wear a bikini since the Nixon administration, when I was too young to be wise enough to understand that it really looked awful on me.

There are plenty of thin, fit people who just prefer not to wear bikinis, for whatever reason, including caution about too much sun exposure. ((For myself, I definitely wouldn't even if I did feel that they were flattering on me, because I count on having that fabric in the middle to hold my waterproof valuables pouch while I swim. My car keys and credit cards are very happy there, clipped to a ring on the lining of my suit.))

As for men who wear rash guards in the water for whatever reason, why the heck not? If they prefer to dress modestly and/or guard against upper-body sunburn (or like my DS, just the hassle of applying sunblock), why must they "enjoy the sun" bare-chested? (Which gives me an opening to quote my favorite line from Mulan: "I'll get that arrow, Pretty Boy, and I'll do it with my shirt ON!! ;)) My Dad was as buff a man as you would ever see, but he wore a shirt in the water (no rash guards back then), on account of having had melanoma; sun wasn't something that was all that good for him.

Oh wow, the terms on this board are really too much.

I was really just calling out the hypocrisy of her comments! Now if you will excuse me I have to go out to the neighborhood play ground and bully some kids!

The Internet allows people to 'say' things virtually that they would never say in real life. Isn't that why people ask questions on message boards, rather than asking their close friends and family? it's because you are more likely to get an honest answer when there is anonimity. To me, 'saying' something here is nothing like 'saying' it in person.

I'm preparing to get hugely flamed for this, but I find the disboards to be slightly hypocritical when it comes to weight-related issues. With all other issues that are GENERALLY within a person's control, such as debt, controlling unruly childrens' behavior, etc., the commentary is generally very pro 'why are you allowing this to continue/get worse', but with weight, people are almost the opposite. It's something I've observed for a while and I find the dichotomy very strange, especially since in the 'real world', obesity is one of the last ridicul-able traits (unfortunately).

As for the bikini question, God Bless anyone who is that brave/confident!

I guess I should have phrased that differently. You asked a question and then everybody ELSE is getting mad because someone's answer is not what they want to hear or have a different opinion. You have remained pretty neutral through this discussion. :)

And I see it quite the opposite. What other topic allows people to call others horrible, mean names because of how they look?

I never hear someone comment on a debt thread that someone is gross or shameful or eyesores.

It wasn't as bad as I expected. For those as uninformed as me it refers to hanging skin--I was thinking it might refer specifically to hanging skin in the private area and I was hoping there were no photos.

Don't forget to kick some puppies, too, while you're at it. (j/k)

Since I'm the first person on this thread to mention the hanging pannus, is what I said more acceptable since I used medical terminology vs. the word "gross"?

Rock it out! Less is more when you are in the water.

I am only like 118 pounds and even I don't feel comfortable in a pool wearing next to nothing.

I wouldn't expect you too!! I do however love your do as I say attitude though! Oh I never called any one particular person gross just that I find rolls of skin hanging out of a bikini gross!! Fat is not cute and it is not healthy and no matter how you slice it it being over weight has will have a negative effect on your life!
