Larger women in bikinis?

Reading this thread makes me never want to put a swimsuit on again (a 1 piece, thankyouverymuch).

Even rash guards? (Just curious. Ours does).

I remember a few years ago, "you" were never allowed to wear a tshirt in most pools, but now most around here seem to allow it. Maybe because rash guards have become more popular?

Our public pools don't allow even rash guards in the deep end of the pool. My very fair skinned, red headed 13 year old has been wearing them for years because he burns even with sunscreen. He is banished to the shallow end if he has the rash guard on. It totally ticks me off, but I have never been successful at arguing my case with the lifeguards or the pool staff. We actually stopped going to those pools because of it.

Just so you women understand, and I think I probably speak for the vast majority of men, having a few extra pounds on you is not a big deal and in some cases it can look better than super skinny. Runway model thin to me is not as attractive as someone that has a few more pounds on her and is a little more filled out, a/k/a Kim Kardashian booty etc. Now the problem is if you start crossing the line and the weight becomes too much, there is a fine line and over the edge is not attractive. But I don't think most men expect or even want runway model thin, that is too far the other direction IMO.

Nope. They can wear them in the park and the pool, and also the raft ride. But they have to be removed for the body slides.

Ahhh....the benefits to having your own pool. You can wear whatever you want. ;)

Just remember.....anytime you get dressed and leave your house, you are choosing how you want to represent yourself to the world. If you wanna Go bra-less with curlers in your hair and pjs to Walmart, that is your right. Doesnt mean it looks good. Everybody has thought negative thoughts about someone at least once in their live, even if they are too high on themselves to admit it.

Oh, I've thought plenty negative thoughts about people. Usually it has to do with their character more with how they look. I have done a few double takes in my life, though.

Or nothing at all!! ;)

As far as this conversation, well, wear something that fits and is flattering to your shape. Whether you are ideal weight or underweight or overweight, wear what is appropriate . That's all I ask...... And yes, flame me if you like, but there are many people out there that could benefit from a few extra looks in the mirror before they go out.. Yeah, Im judgin' LOL!

Reply not to you specifically, but to this subtopic:

Simple argument: does a woman wearing a tankini have to take that top off for the body slide? Then why would a man have to take his off?
Legally, not a leg to stand on. A top is a top, and if a female doesn't have to take it off for safety on a slide, then neither does a male.

They are within their rights to restrict "loose" upper garments for safety reasons, but a blanket ban on ALL upper garments for males only on the grounds of safety won't legally stand.

For the parent of the redhead; don't talk to the pool staff or lifeguards, talk to the Director of Parks and Recreation. This is a policy issue, and it has to be changed at the policy level. If the parks director doesn't get it, speak to the city attorney -- I guarantee that a lawyer will get it.

Last year in FL I was by the hotel pool at Universal Orlando and I saw a girl with rolls of fat wearing, not a regular bikini but, a string bikini. Yes, my eyes were offended but honestly, who cares. When I'm at the beach I'm not even paying attention to what people are wearing. I only pointed this out because she had on a barely-there bikini and she was obese.

Sort of reminds me of the late 60s and early 70s when females only had to wear bathing caps while men didn't. Heck, back then many of the males had hair as long as females. There I was, 6 years old, with my pixie cut that my mom made me have, needing to wear those awful bathing caps while most of the men around me had all this hair and were swimming freely.

A jerk. Sadly, there are lots of them around lately.

I am not interested in giving jerks that kind of power. They don;t get to control me--and I think it is sad to encourage others to dress to make the jerks of the world happy. It is very much a blame the victim kind of thing on a small scale.

Really? I don't see that. Here are several photos of plus sized women in bikinis, that all came up near the top of the page in a google search. Do you really get that feel from them? And if so, you don't get that same feel from skinny women in bikinis? :confused3

I think those women look ok in those bikinis. In fact, they might look better like that than in a one piece. I don't care for the tattoo.

I wish I had half of their confidence! Seriously, I do.

I'm a size 4 and still wouldn't be caught in public in a bikini.

I so admire and APPLAUD the women that have such self-confidence in themselves and their bodies. I wish I could be like that. :goodvibes

Me either. I think my body is bikini ready but you could use my stretch marks to map out a road trip to Disney! That is what holds me back. I wish I had the confidence to wear them proudly!

I have just lost 40 pounds since the fall-25 to 30 more to go. I am 46 years old but if I reach my goal weight before I go on my cruise in August, I may just buy one. Don't know if I will wear it, but I will buy it! I have never worn a bikini even when I could. I am thinking you are never too old.

I don't see a problem with it- although it may not always be nice to look at. Everyone should be able to wear a bikini! Then again, I have grown up going on holiday to France where many women (both thin and large) walk around the beach topless.

I wear bikinis but do feel exposed in them. I prefer tankinis- and also bikini bottoms with cute little skirts. My mum is thin and wears a bikini, but my aunt is slightly larger and yet would probably never wear one.

I would never laugh or look funny at someone that chose to cover up more. Round here it is common for people to wear wetsuits or protective swim wear if they are more vulnerable to sun burn, etc.

In France once, I remember a fairly normal sized man with a very large belly, and underneath, a skimpy pair of speedo style trunks that looked too small for him- and rode up dramatically every time he took a step. Not one of my better memories of the trip. ;)

I do agree some swimsuit tastes are more appropriate/ flattering than others, although I agree with another poster about that applying to clothes too. My cousin is into baggy, grunge style clothes and tight skinny jeans. She is quite large (she actually stood on our garden table and fell through it) and says skinny jeans make her look skinnier- even though they really do emphasize the bad bits. I don't say anything, knowing she is fully entitled to wear what she wants, but I do secretly think she would look so much better wearing another style of clothing. It's the same with me even though I am quite skinny- I can't wear baggy clothes well as they just cover me! Skinny jeans look better, but because I am short, I feel more 'chunky' in them. I prefer skirts and dresses, because I know they flatter my figure more.

I mean, to be honest, I feel awkward wearing a swimsuit without having a tan- I just feel out of place compared to everyone else.

Back when I was a slim teen, I felt akward in bikinis. I don't know why but they just felt weird to me. I have never worn them regardless of size.

I have no problem with those who choose to wear them if they wish though. I just don't want to see what I shouldn't (I realize that that varies from person to person!) and I'm OK.
