Kim's new and improved life journal!

AWESOME! You will meet your goal, no problem :) And we'll be here cheering you on!

That's so fun about the 5K. You'll have a great time. I totally know what you mean about the TM! I can't figure out how I can walk a 15:30 mpm pace fairly easily on the trail, but I'm practically running at that pace on the TM. I'm so worried for when the bad weather comes..what am I going to do?

Keep up the great work :cheer2:

Kim -

Congrats on signing up for that 5k!! Great job!! Races are so exciting!

About the treadmill...not sure why your pace is slower on it but I bet some of it is mental (not that YOU are mental, just that it's a different thing running "in place")...I always cover up the readout with a towel so I don't sit there and stare at each hundreth of a mile go by, you may want to try that too...see how long you can go without checking under the towel :) Also, try increasing the pace ever so slightly after running for a few minutes, you'll notice there is almost no difference when you bump it up by .1 or .2 mph and it will help build confidence. Also remember to relax! I've learned that listening to super fast music and concentrating on running "fast" always makes it seem so much harder...I now opt for slower music and focus on relaxing my upper body and really finding a comfortable groove.

I'm definitely not an expert, but thought I'd share those with you because they've worked for me....I don't "Fear the Tread" anymore :)

Good luck with completing your goal this month and have a good day!

Hi kim
great news for the 5k :cool1:
i'm sure you'll meet the august challenge - you can do it :thumbsup2

Great advice fron scott regarding the TM - might try that advice for myself ;)
Have a great week

hey kim!! Great job on getting signed up for the 5K!! You are gonna rock it!!

Have a great night and a great weekend...talk to ya soon!!

ree-ree :upsidedow

Hey woman,

I was wondering when you were going to update you mile total in your signature? I feel the need to cheer some more. :cheer2:

Have a great evening,
Beth

Hey guys...quick post (honestly). We went to the Ocean City boardwalk last night, so that's why I didn't post.

I walked 2 miles on the TM y'day at lunch - which was a HUGE accomplishment since freakin TOM decided to rain on my end-of-the-month parade. :headache:

I am bound and determined to hit that goal....so stay tuned! :goodvibes

(thanks, as always for the cheering, support and visits!)

hi buddy--you WILL make this goal--i know you can do it!

Sorry I havent been around much, but you know how it goes! Come online once n awhilewhile im on--or ill call ya this weekend :)

Hi Kim,

I hope TOM wasn't too horrible. Great job getting those 2 miles in despite TOM. I hope you had a great time at the Boardwalk.

Have a good weekend,
Beth

Well guys...I'm here to disappoint you. :guilty: No miles happened today. Freakin TOM was not kind today. :headache: I am really kicking myself for not going to that consultation last month.

But, right now, I'm not feeling disappointed in myself. This is an obstacle in my life right now, and I'll have it taken care of within the next month or so. So, I went 5 more miles than last month, and this month was pretty darn hot still. I'm gonna be happy with that & move on. :thumbsup2 Having that goal wasn't useless...it definitely pushed me out the door on more than one occasion.

September's goal: I'm setting it at 35 miles. The weather might still be hot, but it should start turning into warm instead of hot. I'm also going to be on travel for work for 5 days and I plan on utilizing the TM there. No excuses at that point (I only have myself to worry about after my class ends every day).

I'll be out there tomorrow and Monday to start off this month with some miles.

Thanks SO much for the support and encouragement, all of you. I hope you're not disappointed too much.

Scott - to answer your TM post (sorry, I just realized I didn't) - I have always covered up the display with a towel. If I didn't, I wouldn't even make it one mile. I know it completely is a "mental" thing with me. I prefer to talk myself into going further by saying "go to the next mailbox or the next tree" and I can't do that on the TM. But I will try out the slower music and pumping up the speed. :thumbsup2 Thanks so much for the advice.

Hi kim
NOt dissapointed at all, like you said it pushed you to do more than you would have done, so the success is there :)
Congrats & i hope you do as well with Septembers goal :)

Hi Kim....

Great job with your goals this month. I just know that next month you'll hit hit or exceed your goals as you train for your 5K! :thumbsup2 With the cooler temps coming it will be nicer for all of us here to run! I cannot even imagine what it must be like for those in the South, Jersey was hot enough this summer...12 days in that Florida heat was enough for me and I LOVE summer weather. :sunny: Yay for nice autumn temps :).

Nobody is disappointed girl...you managed to come sooo close and it helped to get you on track. That's the point of goals right? :).

Anyway, I hope you have a really fun Holiday Weekend. Good luck with your runs this weekend. :goodvibes

Thanks SO much ladies. Sometimes, I just feel like I do more talking than "doing" sometimes.

This morning we had a professional painter come to the house for a consultation on some rooms we want done. She left around 9:30, then I made breakfast for the kids & DH and then I went upstairs and got changed for my run. Gotta say, it was a GREAT run! I ran a straight 3 miles with no walk breaks. :woohoo: I finished in 34.24. My left leg definitely felt heavier than my right so I noticed it more, but it didn't hurt so I pushed through.

It's a good feeling to be on day 1 of a new month and already have 3 miles logged. :yay: By the 3rd I hope to have another 3 (at least). :goodvibes

Amy - you're right about the weather. It's been brutal. And the 5k will definitely keep me in line. I don't have a time goal for the 5k, unless I run it by myself. If I do run it with my sister, it'll be more of a walk with some runs thrown in. It'll be more about the fact that she's cleaned up her life and we are doing our first 5k together. If it's just me...then I'll shoot for under 35 minutes.

Have a GREAT holiday weekend, everyone.

Hi Lady-
I think you did a great job!! no one is disappionted in you AT ALL--You already have a nice start on this month! You CAN meet your goal--i know it!

Hope you have a great weekend:)
So enough of me being nice!! sept 23--my house or yours? Da bears vs Cowboys!

Hi Kim,

I am certainly not disappointed in you.

Awesome to hear about your great run. That is just the way to start your month out.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
Beth

Hiya Kim

Nice start to the month!! Glad to see you didn't let August's numbers get you down...like you said, the goal got you out the door so you can look back and feel good about what you did....and it looks like Sept is off to a fantastic start. Hopefully the temps break for you :) (they have down here...and thank goodness...14 straight days of over 100 degrees was just not condusive to easy training :) )

Have a good holiday weekend!

Hi Kim,

Great way to start September off!:thumbsup2 I think you did a great job in August and I know you'll do a great job in September too! Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

Have a happy Labor Day!

Thanks again, you guys.

Just posting that I ran again this morning. Did another 3 mile run w/no walk breaks in 35.32. One minute slower than Saturday, but still under 12mpm, which is incredible for me. :thumbsup2

Have a GREAT day!
