I haven't tried their bread pudding. I love bread pudding too. You know who makes the best at WDW? 'Ohana and I hate banana and I still, think its that good.

How was Europe???

You need to try it at Raglan Rd....it's the best i've ever tasted.

Europe was amazing! I am doing a tr...:rolleyes1

I'm mostly thinking about the cruise in June which doesn't seem to require obsessive planning.
Tom and I are eating at the Chef's Table at Flying Fish in August for date night!

Amanda

What a great date night? Will you use a kids' club for the kids? I always wanted to try one.

I'd love your cruise details. popcorn:: Jennifer here has been researching DC like mad. I'm sure she'd like it too.

Link please......:flower3:

Michael and I share like you and Fran so that sounds perfect. I'd rather have a bite of everything than a whole anything. And I'm excited to try the regional wines/beers/cocktails. I want to take my time too and not rush through the countries and kiosks.

I wonder how many people nap with Ellen? :rotfl:

Everything was definitely 2-4 bites at least, the portions weren't tiny, but they weren't huge. Splitting them is definitely the way to go. I'm sure you will have a great time!

That's perfect. I had been subscribing to a few F&W trip reports and lost track of them; I need to find them.

I'm sure we'll have a great time. :goodvibes

Thanks for the Vegas info. :thumbsup2

Yay for you!! I think a late lunch will be great too. What night are you thinking about MNSSHP? We're going to grill that late afternoon before the party. I'm dying to use that big THV deck and grill. My grocery list is loooong.

Are you still thinking the meet on the 18th? I guess I could check the FB group but haven't seen much activity.

Yep we are still thinking about meet on the 18th, nothing official scheduled but afternoon ish at R&C. There may be a lobby meet of some sort the morning of the 17th as well as some folks leave that day but it's a little up in the air till people book flights. Figured we'd get it up on FB at some point lol! I was looking at Friday for the party but I think we are going to do Sunday as a few other folks want to do it then so it's be a larger group.

Btw...the Raglan Road Bread Pudding recipe is up on my TR, just for Cherie! :) OMG so amazing it's crazy.

Thanks for the FB links and recommends for food. Michael wanted me to take the post down as I said we'd be out of town. He is a little overly catious when it comes to that. It looked unreal though!

Sunday will be a good night for the party. I bet Friday will be packed! Either though will be a blast! I'm looking so forward to it and so many other things this trip. I'll keep checking in about the meet. I'll drag Jenna with me, you'll love her.

:goofy: 176 days until WDW!!! :goofy:

We usually use Kids Nite Out for babysitting. With 3 kids it's actually cheaper than the kids' club. And my youngest hasn't been fully potty trained (we're close!). I find that a sitter has worked well for us!

We are going on the Disney Dream on June 24th for a 5 night cruise. We booked as part of the Disboards Podcast Cruise 3.0. It's expensive!!! Especially as a family of 5. We booked a family room with balcony (category 4A) but I think if I had it to do over I'd book adjoining lower category rooms. It seems like I could have gotten 2 rooms with a small balcony for only a little more $$$.

Very cool! And yes, I agree, they are expensive. When I was looking for the 5 of us, it was only a little more to get rooms right across the hall from each other; one inside and one with a balcony. Double the living space and two bathrooms. Mine are older than yours and 2 bathrooms are a must with two teenage girls. :scared: where does the Dream cruise to?

That's nice you'll get some alone time. It's so important. It's so easy to get caught up 100% with the kids and their needs and easy to forget about our own.

Speaking of.....DH surprised me with a trip to Vegas next weekend, just he and I! :lovestruc I'm so excited. He booked the flight, hotel, and he even booked dinner reservations. I have taken care of child care though. He said he knew I'd never let go of ALL of the control. ;)

Your Vegas trip sounds awesome!!!!! Have a wonderful time!
Tom and I really look forward to our one night out on these trips. It's such a lovely thing. :lovestruc
Our cruise goes to Nassau, Castaway Cay x 2 (not 2 days in a row; we go there twice), and one day at sea. We sail out of Port Canaveral. We're flying down the day before and spending one night at the Swan. Then we're staying at Fort Wilderness in a Cabin for 2 nights after the cruise. I'm a little worried about the Cabins but I think it'll be ok. (I have a PTR for my crazy trips coming up.)

Yeah, Jeff is too, he doesn't like me checking us in anywhere on FB if it's out of town. Which I get although I didn't think you posted WHEN your vegas trip was in the same post...maybe you did though.

The more the merrier!

Duh! :rotfl2: I could have just erased that post. How lame of me. Oh we'll. I gave him your recommendation. It looks so good. I skipped the Golden Nugget hot dog one. :crazy2:

Cynthia (posted above) has stayed in the cabins, I'm sure she'll share her insights. If I remember correctly, they enjoyed them. What has you worried?

What a great itinerary. I like that you have 2 days at CC. :thumbsup2 I've heard CC is reason enough alone to take a Disney Cruise. It looks fabulous. Are you planning any excursions? If I remember correctly, you don't love the beach right? Sorry if I've got the details confused. I can hardly keep my own life straight. ;)

Shabbat shalom! We just got back from services. Kids are zonked. Joshua had a soccer game first and they won. :woohoo:

Because I can't sleep on the only day I'm allowed to sleep in, go figure, I thought I'd do a quick analysis of why the DDP doesn't work for us and share sample meals of what we'd order at the 7 TS we've chosen. It's also going to be F&W so I suspect a couple of days we'll be snacking and drinking around the World and one snack credit per day won't go far.

This is in no way to hinder others or knock them for getting it. I know it works beautifully for some families. :goodvibes

2012's cost for the DDP:
Adults: $51.54 (regular season) | $53.54 (peak season*)
Children: $15.02 (regular season) | $16.02 (peak season*)

October is regular season and according to Disney we are all adults :faint: so it would cost me $309.24 per day for food just for Disney Dining. Each day includes a TS, a CS, and a snack. Each TS and CS includes a drink and dessert along with the main entree. The obvious for me are the drinks and the desserts. We'd never eat 10 desserts per day and don't drink a lot of soda. Sure we could get bottles of water but I will buy 2 cases for $10 at the beginning of the trip so that would be a waste. On the rare occasion someone wants a soda, I'll spend the $2.75. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about dessert coming with both the TS and CS.

That $309.24 adds up to a whopping $3092.40 :rotfl2: Seriously for food. And that doesn't include extra snacks, appetizers, alcohol, virgin drinks for the kids, and food in the villa. My budget for groceries for the 10 days is $300. If we had the DDP, I'd still plan on $125 in groceries for snacks and in room breakfasts. We're planning on 7 TS, CS almost everyday in which we generally just share a few, breakfast in the villa for the most part, 3 big dinners in the villa, and then munchies. Oh and wine and Guinness. We drink a ton of water while touring the parks.

As I've shared before, we share a lot when it comes to dining. I'm a crazy Jewish mother who hates to waste. :furious: It frogs me out. Yes, we'll have a full kitchen but I'm not about to lug leftovers all over the park especially without a stroller and in the heat of October. I never tell them they can't order something regardless of price but they know that they better eat it. That leads to a lot of sharing. And now that we're all *adults* fuggetaboutit, the waste would be astronomical. Plus we are grazers, we stop when we're full. Did I mention that wasting food drives me insane? They're really are starving kids. They possible live in your neighborhood. :( Off soap box. ;)

Note to add, we will be getting the TiW card which is $100 I believe for DVC members.

Don't worry, I'm keeping track of the math. :smokin:

The CS we've chosen are Saana, 50's, Rose and Crown, Tony's, Raglan Road (all shareable) and then Boma and 'Ohana (not shareable). Boma will cost me $200 and 'Ohana will cost $240 including tip and TiW discount.

I've done a scan of the menus and made a guesstimation of what we'll order. They can order whatever they want, again, as long as they'll eat it.

Saana:

Sampler for Two - Potato and Pea Samosas, Pulled Duck with Red Curry Sauce, Roasted Cauliflower $14.99

Potato and Pea Samosas - with choice of Tamarind or Mango Chutney $7.99

Slow Cooked in Gravy, Simple and Well Seasoned
Choice of two served with Basmati Rice or Five-grain pilaf
$18.99 x 2

Tandoori Shrimp $20.99

New York Strip - served with warm Potato and Spinach Salad, Tomato, and Golden Raisin Chutney $28.99

Choice of 3 breads and 3 accompaniments
Serves Two $8.99 x 2

= $129. There is no feasible way we'd spend another $170+ in food for the day. Plus with DDP there isn't a discount on alcohol or those fun glowy kids drinks. There is with the TiW card. :thumbsup2

Tony's

Calamari - Tossed with Olive Relish and served with a side of Marinara sauce $9.99 x 2

Caesar Salad - Romaine lettuce tossed in Caesar Dressing topped with Romano Cheese and Croutons $5.99

Mixed Greens - Salad mix tossed in House Dressing with Feta cheese and Croutons $ 5.49

Spaghetti - with choice of Meatballs or Sweet Italian Sausage in Tony's own Marinara sauce $16.99

NY Strip Steak - with red-wine butter, Tony's Potatoes and seasonal vegetables $28.99

Shrimp Scampi - Linguini with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Asparagus tossed in a Garlic sauce $19.99

Tony's Lasagna - layered with ground beef, sausage, mozzarella, and ricotta $17.99

Spumoni - layers of ice cream with pistachio nuts and cherries $4.99 x 2

Tiramisu - espresso soaked lady fingers, whipped mascarpone and dark chocolate shavings $6.49

= $132 and that's on the very high end. Three desserts and that lasagna is pushing it but I'm hungry right now. You know what they say about posting and being hungry? :rotfl2:

No way we'd eat another $170.

Rose and Crown:

Seasonal Soup - Bowl: $5.49

Mary and the Lads - roasted shrimp cocktail with a spicy Bloody Mary mix $9.99 x 2

Roasted Sea Scallops - wilted baby spinach, tomato and olive vinaigrette $10.99

Fish and Chips - Beer-battered and served with housemade tartar sauce $17.99 x 2

Sunday Roast - with Yorkshire Pudding, Roasted Potatoes, seasonal Vegetable, and Shallot Gravy $16.99

Slow-cooked Chicken Curry with Basmati rice and pappadam $16.99

Mushy Peas $3.99

English Chips $3.19

Sticky Toffee Pudding $5.49

= $119 ::yes:: That's right, we'd get no where near spending another $180 in food for the day.

Again, the desserts are highly unlikely with all of the fabulous must-have treats in WDW! :cloud9:

50's:

Chicken Noodle Soup - Hearty mixture of chicken, vegetables, and egg noodles $6.49

Cousin Amy's Iceberg Lettuce Wedge - Blue Cheese Dressing, Bacon, and Chives $5.49

Caesar Salad - Romaine lettuce tossed with caesar dressing, grated parmesan, and garlic croutons. With Chicken $13.49

Grandma's Chicken Pot Pie - A creamy cheese mixture of chicken, mushrooms, carrots, celery, onions, and peas topped with a flaky pastry $17.99

Aunt Liz's Golden Fried Chicken - served with mashed potatoes, chicken gravy and southern greens $16.99

Mom's Old Fashioned Pot Roast - Slow cooked 'til fork tender, served with mashed potatoes, carrots, celery and onions $17.99

S'mores $4.79 x 4. Doubt the kids could pass this up!

= $111. :cool1: And what does that leave to make the the DDP worth it? A cool $195 or so. No way man.

Raglan Road: this is just for DH and I so I'll figure the kids will be either grab CS. Since we won't be there and they don't think about wasting food I'll give them each $20 for this meal.

Tart Art - Asparagus and goat cheese tart with garden peas, leeks and lemon oil dressed arugula $10

Mighty Mussels - 1/2 pound of fresh Blue Hill bay mussels in a coconut infused curry broth $10

Keen Eye for the Shepherds Pie - We give the traditional shepherd's pie a little makeover with our contemporary twist to this favorite dish $18

Ger's Bread & Butter Pudding - Like no other pudding you have ever tried. Believe us $8

Now honestly, DH hates bread pudding but I'm adding it for good measure as you all say it's amazing!

= $126. Say it with me: there's no chance we'd spend another $180 in CS and a snack each.

So what have I got here so far?

$1,457. To be safe I'll add another $1,000 for F&W, CS, and snacks- again, only adding what the DDP would provide and I'm still at $2,457. I didn't take out the $125 in groceries we'd still be getting if we got the DDP. If I do that makes the total $2,332.

Does anything stand out that I'm missing? :grouphug:

You must be so happy your ADRs are done!
It's been such a long week and I haven't had much time for the DIS, so going to catch up today.

I hope you're considering DLR for December. ;)

I'm glad they're done however.........I'm thinking of the Kona over Tony's but how close is the Poly to MK really? We'd have to leave and come back but I think you can take a boat over right?

I'm always considering Disneyland in December. What are your exact dates?

I totally agree with you on the DDP vs TIW. I've seen what you guys eat at DL and we do similar but with only two of us we're scaled down. When we eat at a CS we get one meal and maybe an appetizer or supplement to the regular meal and it's plenty for the two of us.

When we do a TS, we'll get a couple appetizers and split an entree and dessert. Obviously you can't do that at places like Ohana and Boma, but I completely understand. For two of us the DDP would be ridiculous, for five it would be multiplied exponentially. I don't know what people on the dining plan do with all that food.

We also make some meals in the room so taking that into account there is no way we would consider the dining plan.
