Do you think they will ever be able to match or even exceed the movies?

I am reserving judgement.

Part of me thinks it's just plain too early to remake something so iconic.

But I'm also a huge fan of the books, so part of me is looking forward to seeing the smaller scenes that, by necessity, get left out when you make a standard-length movie.

Not a fan of the books or original movies so my bar is set pretty low. I doubt I will see the new version since I don’t have satellite, cable, or streaming services.

I don’t think it’s too soon though. This is more like a miniseries for each book, so they would be able to follow the books in more detail than the movies did. It’s kind of like trying to compare the Pride and Prejudice miniseries from 1995 with the film from 2005. Both were good, but the miniseries was more faithful to the book because there was more time to go into detail. A lot will depend on casting and directorial choices.

This is how we feel. We really love the books & movies, so I'm thinking that we will give the TV show a fair chance. I'm hoping it's good.

I think it will be OK, but die by season 3. People are tired of nothing but remakes.

I think old ones are still to relevant and current.
I agree with maybe 3 seasons.
Also there were so many incredible performers in that series. Going to awfully hard to out perform many of them.

High hopes! Could be totally amazing because there are so many same time storylines I wish were were explored more. Little was said about Harry's dad's extended family or how his dad came into possession of the cloak, I would LOVE to know more about that and also about all the other wizarding families. I would adore seeing more of the magic in wizard lives and it could be brought to life so easily now with AI. Then there are all the other schools in other countries, it would be amazing if Quidditch matches brought viewers into other schools sort of like how travel teams move around for away games. So many ways tell the story but reach outward to explore, JK is a very talented storyteller.

I think there is a lot of potential for it to be good and different, which is what I'm hoping for. And even if it's not great, I will still love the movies and books! I absolutely feel that the movies have a nostalgic hold for now, but over time, the fandom for the series could really grow and have a presence. Agree with LuvOrlando that there are so many storylines that could be explored further, too!

I loved the books, I saw the first few movies and they were ok. I’m not a big fan of books becoming movies. I won’t be watching the tv show. For the tv shows to have enough content they will have to go beyond the books and to me never that never turns out well.
