Wow! I can't believe you're hosting a bat mitzvah in 6 weeks! It sounds like the b'nai mitzvahs are more laid back where you live. Here it's like throwing a wedding. :sad2: People book venues 2 years in advance and spend tens of thousands of dollars. Luckily we have a few more years before our 1st bar mitzvah as Nathaniel just turned 8. :thumbsup2 I know there are parts of the service that I won't be allowed to do - as the non-Jewish parent - but I will be allowed to participate some. My DH grew up observant so he's pretty fluent in Hebrew.

ADRs are soon!

Amanda

We're not catering all of it. It's a light luncheon; bagels, shmear, tuna salad, egg salad, lox, capers, onion, tomatoes, picked herring for the old peeps :scared1:, fruit, desserts, grape juice, and wine basically. We'll have it outside at our very small synagogue. Gabby's we did in our home last year as the weather was iffy, mid April, but we should be good outside in late May.....crossing fingers.....:wizard:

I hope you're right about her being prepared. I want her to enjoy the entire journey, including that day and I think she'll enjoy it more if she's prepared.

My portion is in Hebrew too. It's chanted. :faint:

Yum! I think you need some NY bagels. ;)
I hope the weather cooperates.

How long is your portion? I bet it's absolutely beautiful.

I think it's called WDW Celebrations. I'll try to find the link. I've heard that with most new restaurants, they'll open ADRs a month or two in advance. It's going to be a difficult ADR to get if that's the case. I'm not sure what kind of food they'll have. Maybe French since that's where the story takes place? Similar to Les Chefs?

That would be good as we still have to try Le Chefs. I was reading last night and they'll be three different themed rooms too....should be interesting.

People do the huge wedding type celebrations here too. We are just choosing not to. To be more specific, Chloe is choosing not to. ;) She'd rather have a trip to WDW than a big party and dinner- we've been to them and it's just not her thing. It's her day, not mine, so we respect that. As far as what's required, her d'var Torah etc...that's all included, the service isn't altered, our celebration is just smaller and to her, more personal. We will do the kiddush luncheon following and then host dinner for any out of town guests, our family, and the rabbi. I watched my good friend pull every hair our planning her son's party. It was really fun and we all had a great time but the stress wouldn't be worth it to me. I'm sure planning a 11 night trip to Disney wouldn't be her cup of tea. I love being a Jew. There is a lot of freedom in what that looks like to the individual. Chloe might even have props during her d'var Torah. :woohoo:

DH is not the non Jewish parent (for now) he's mid conversion and he was still able to be a great presense. He's working primarily with Chloe on her d'var Torah and will write and say the parents blessing.

My Hebrew is nil beside what I memorize for portion and prayers. ;)

Ours in a small, very liberal, reform congregation which I love. :cloud9:

I do need ny bagels!!!! What I wouldn't give.....

My portion is 3 verses but it feels like 435 verses. It's the only thing I have this huge mind block over. I wasn't raised a practicing Jew and don't know any real Hebrew. Fortunately, many of the Jews in our community might have been raised Jewish but after they became a bar/bat mitzvah, they purged their Hebrew. :rotfl: ;) We've got a very loving and accepting congregation, no one expects anyone to get it perfect.

:tink: 1 days until ADRs!!! :tink:

:figment: 181 days until WDW!!! :figment:

Too bad NY bagels can't be shipped and maintain their fresh, hot out of the oven taste.

I'm sure your portion and the entire bat mitzvah will be beautiful. :goodvibes

Wow, only 1 day until ADRs. That went fast! Are you all set with your list?

Too bad indeed Jen! Einsteins is the only game in town here. They do make them fresh but they're no NY bagel for sure.

My list is not done. :faint: I thought it was done. I'll figure it out tonight after the kids go to bed. I know where we want to eat but the days are what I'm unsure about.

Any new cruise info to share?

There's a couple of small bagel shops near my house that are fabulous. When you come to NYC for a visit, we have to go.

Figuring out dates for dining is hard. I had lots of trouble with that.

I'm researching President's Week cruises on the Dream. They're pricey, but I have to consider it includes all meals as well.

In addition to WDW, are you planning a DLR trip?

Funny you ask because before he left for Carmel, I told if he thinks we'll remotely be doing Disneyland in December to let me know ASAP as I'll have to make reservations for the GCV. He seriously looked shocked and said: you do realize we're taking a 12 day trip to WDW in October right?! For some reason I see them as unrelated. :lmao:

DCL is always going to be your most $$$$ but the boys would love it. And I'm guessing a holiday weekend makes it more so? Where do you depart from?

Yes, when I come visit you I'm going to eat my way through NYC! Greek, Italian, bagels, Indian......:lovestruc

They are unrelated! :rotfl: Do you think there's a chance you'll be headed to DLR sometime in December?

It is more because it's a holiday. We'd depart from Port Canaveral. The dates for the 4 night cruise are better than the 3 night. I'm thinking we'll stay at WDW the day before the cruise and for a day or two after the cruise.

Ohhh I know lots of great places to eat. There's an amazing Indian place across the street from school. Their lunch specials are only $6.95; curry chicken or lamb, rice, veggies, and naan. YUM!

I agree, totally unrelated and totally opposite coasts. There's always a chance we'd go in December but when I brought it up I really did forget about WDW in October. Our dates would match yours as the kids can't miss any more school.

The cruise/WDW mix sounds perfect! pixiedust: I bet if the 4 day dates are better than 3, the 7 night dates would trump the 4. :stir: ;)

I can't even imagine the goodness NYC has to offer. I was there 10 years ago and just got a taste. It was incredible.

I had a friend post this on this FB. He doesn't drink, Mormon, not sure if his kids will be with him....ideas? Favorite suggestions for food places and things to do/see in New York and coastal areas up to Boston.

Our synagogue is also a small, liberal, Reform synagogue. Otherwise it would be hard for me. The strongly discourage the huge bar mitzvah party but it still happens a lot. Maybe less an in some of the other bigger synagogues in the area.
Einstein bagels aren't terrible, as non-NY bagels go. ;)

Ohhh you NEED to make that DLR trip happen. ;)

Right now, 4 days trumps 3. If we do 4 and not 7, we book concierge level. So, that's a perk. And I want some WDW time ;) BUT I need to look into the Fantasy.

I love NYC. I have considered relocating, but it's hard. I love the convenience.

Does he want to see Bway shows? Is there any food that he doesn't like? I will message you a restaurant list. I have a couple of favorite restaurants in Boston too.

Nor would I Amanda ;) Einsteins is just great for here! Plus we doll them up with lox and capers. Mmm.....And then the obligatory picked herring that no one under 80 y/o touches. :rotfl:

He wasn't specific. I'm thinking food.

Did you get your ADRs???

We added on the 13th and don't need them for that day so I can make the THV portion starting tomorrow. Do you make yours online or call?

Are you getting up bright and early tomorrow to make your ADRs?

What time do they open? I'm getting up two hours earlier than that. :scared1: Me no trusty the online system plus I've read you can't to 180+ just 180. :rolleyes1 With 2 ADRs having parties of 11, I think it's best to call, y know? I'll post my complete plans here tonight. I struggled with where to put that second ether park day. :surfweb: The kids think I'm nuts but told me they're glad I do this because it's always super fun. :cloud9: M is still in Carmel. He'll be home tomorrow night so he'll get the ADR news via phone.

I think online opens at 6 am EST and the phones at 7 am EST.
Booking ADRs gets crazy, but it is definitely worth it.
Have you done HDDR?
