Kajeet cell phone for kids

I looked into it last Fall but very mixed reviews. So I went with Platinumtel which was cheaper....
search for Platinumtel and you'll find some threads.

I've used them for my daughter since 2007 and have no complaints whatsoever. In fact, I love the parental controls that they offer and the unlimited GPS locates. Has definitely come in handy when she's misplaced her phone.

I might be missing something, but I don't see it being cheaper kajeet is $20 month unlimited text, talk, pictures

My son has had a Kajeet phone for 6 years now and I have had no issue with them. There were little things but they were always quick to give a month free for any inconvenience.

My son has the 19.99 with unlimited messaging and like 60 minutes or so. He uses very few if any minutes and texts all the time so it works for us. I have used the .99 cent GPS locate when he lost it one time to find out it was in his pocket. UGH!!! We have also put small amounts on it for him to buy games, music, and such.

It is not unlimited talk. http://www.kajeet.com/kajeetStore/serviceplans.do The $20 plan has 150 minutes per month.

It really depends on what you need/want. my kids don't need unlimited text or a lot of minutes. They just don't use their phones much.

So, $20/mo for each kid would be $50 more per month than I spend or need.

My kids each have Spot Mobile for phone service and use an app for texting in wifi which is free.

We're in Illinois and have never had a problem with coverage. In fact, we drive to Disney every year and there are very few places that she doesn't get a signal. She has the 300 minute plan with unlimited texting (which also includes unlimited GPS locates and picture messages) and it's $27.49 per month. The parental controls have been especially helpful in the past when she was having problems with a group of girls who were harrassing her via text mesage. I simply blocked their texts and calls and it eliminated the problem. Of course, they're all friends again, but I took my time in removing the restriction to make sure everything was OK.

I actually just signed my DD13 up with Kajeet a couple weeks ago. So far, so good. I looked at a lot of plans and this seemed the cheapest for unlimited texting, which is what I was looking for. Not to mention the great parental controls...I turned off her texting ability from 10pm-6am. No middle of the night sneak-texting!

DD15 had kajeet for about a year, but that was a couple of years ago. there were two instances in that year where we were double-charged for her monthly service, and the reception was HORRIBLE. she could never get a signal anywhere in our area to send a text or make a call. we finally gave up and put her on our AT&T plan.

I got one for my 12 yo a few months ago. I like the parental controls. It takes all the bickering about putting down the stupid phone during study time right out of the equation.

What I haven't yet figured out is how you can get apps on the phone, since their android phones don't come with the navigator feature installed.

It uses the Sprint network, which around here, isn't wonderful. There are dead spots. Dd15 and I both have Virgin Mobile, which also uses Sprint, and we all have the same issues.

We had Kajeet for DS15 for about 2 years. We had a few glitches but they were always resolved. It runs on the Sprint network which is great around here. We had the $19.99/mo plan which was unlimited text & 120 min (at that time, not sure what the cost is now). There was a $14.99 plan as well when we signed up. LOVED the parental controls. We only switched because we added another line & got a family plan.

We are in Illinois too and have had the same experience driving down to WDW. We also had to use the parental controls whne a couple girls were harrassing our son via text. We simply blocked their numbers after I talked to each of them about their behavior. We also have the phone set so he can only call home, 911, or mine and DH cell phones 24/7 and it is set to no calls, text, internet during school hours and after 10pm.

Jackie, Kajeet uses Sprints cell towers so where you can get Sprint you can get Kajeet. I had Sprint service when we first got DS the Kajeet service and he got service in all the same places I did.

We started using Kajeet last year when my DD13 started Junior High. She's on the 14.99 plan with 60 minutes of talk time and unlimited texting. (She rarely uses over 10 minutes of talk time.) No issues for us. We wanted to start her off with something less fancy, i.e. not a smartphone. I really liked the parental controls, we used them in the beginning, not so much now. She'll 'graduate' to a 'real' phone on our plan at Christmas. In a few years when her younger brother starts Junior High we'll definitely consider Kajeet for him.

I bought a $100 card and it came with a free phone. My DD averages about $10 per month. She mainly texts. While not unlimited, she isn't restricted. We just check her balance.
