Jungle Josh's Trip Report
Part 1:
Jungle Adventures: The Trip That Couldn't Begin Fast Enough!
The Players:
Jungle Josh (22/m) - Former WDW Cast Member, Disney Fanatic.
Cousin A (22/m) - My best friend, a little nervous, quiet type.
Little Cousin B (10/f) - First trip away from her parents, never spent more than 2 days at WDW.
Our Aunt (55/f) - Buisnesswoman, loves to spend time at WDW relaxing as opposed to running the parks 24/7, has a walking handicap.
Little Cousin C (6/m) - will arrive with his parents later in the trip...Cousin B's brother.
Cousin D (34/m) - B and C's Dad, will join us later in the trip
Cousin D's DW (32/f) - Will join us later in the trip.
------------------------------------------------
And so the adventures begin. It all began back in February, my aunt decided that she would once again take her loving nephews to Walt Disney World. One and a half years removed from college and into the real world, I had 2 weeks vacation saved up for a summer trip and decided to schedule it for the end of July.
For several weeks in February, we batted around the idea of heading to Disneyland, but Our Aunt was nervous about flying so we finally decided on WDW. Now the tough part was deciding on where to stay. Unfortunately last year, we had some horrible experiences at the contemporary (our typical home away from home). The room was filthy and the concierge service HORRIBLE, so we decided it was time for a change of pace. We looked around and settled on checking into the Polynesian Lagoon View Concierge on July 23 and stay through the 31st.
Well, as time passed, we talked about all the things we wanted to do and how we would all like to stay longer, so we bumped up the check in date to July 20.
Fast Forward to April...several of my other cousins are discussing joining us at WDW. We usually travel in large groups, as many as 17 at a time...in the end Cousin d (34) decides to joing us and bring his family down to join us midway through the trip. His DW has decided to take a cruise with a friend while he and the 2 kids will stay at POP for 5 nights and enjoy WDW.
This decission got the wheels turning and my aunt decided to ask Cousin B (10/f) to joing us before her dad and brother arrive. She decides spending 10 days at WDW is better than 5, and accepts the offer! Let the planning begin.
Fast forward to May....A new company has bought my television station, new management comes in and they decide thatmy department can be outsourced. In a move that totally catches me offguard, I am laid off and thrown to the unemployment line. I spend some of the following weekend with my aunt who decides, now that I have plenty of free time, we should to to WDW earlier! The trip is now bumped up to leaving on the morning of Tuesday July 20 and checking into the POFQ for 2 nights before the Poly.
Fast Forward to July17...3 days to go, everyone is chomping at the bit to leave. Cousin A has just returned from a week long trip to WDW with his mom and dad (and yes he is already ready to go back...lucky dog!). Our aunt gets out of a meeting at her buisness and calls me....we have the following conversation:
"Josh...what if we left on Monday at 5 and drove half way...then we could spend tuesday night settling in and we wont feel so rushed"
"Are you serious"
"Sure, why not?"
"Well, it's your money, I've got nothing else to do"
"Awesome! Lets do it...find us a hotel somewhere past Atlanta..."
"Okay...no problem, how about the hampton in Perry, GA?"
And so the trip that couldn't begin fast enough finally has a concrete start date....and I haven't even thought about packing. I procrastinate and suddenly its Monday morning...I am packing in a mad rush and realize I have no socks...I have been wearing dress socks every day for 1.5 years...that or sandals. kinda weird, and I feel really stupid running to walmart, 1 hour before leaving, to buy socks....never again.
At 4:30 everyone is at the meeting point, I load the van and somehow fit WAY to much luggage into the rear of the van....how can 4 people need that much luggage? by 5:15 we were on the road, the trip that couldnt begin fast enough has begun. It's a 7 hour drive to Perry, Ga.
Will we make it in good time? What will happen as Jungle Skipper's family embarks on this Walt Disney World Vacation? How will Cousin A feel about heading to WDW with only 2 days at home since his last trip? How will cousin B handle her first trip without her parents? All this and more coming soon in Jungle Skippers Trip Report!!!!!!
