Our Trip Report June 3rd - 6th 2004
on the Three Night Wonder
Last September I was watching the Travel Channel and they were showing the Disney Cruise Line. I always thought the Disney Cruise Liner was the Big Red Boat. I didnt realize that Disney built their own ships. I never heard good comments about the Big Red Boat, but these Disney Cruises looked like a ball. I surfed around the web and found a good deal and booked our cruise for June 3, 2004. Nine months in advance. This way my son will be out of school and this will give me time to lose twenty pounds. (I never lost it, but I gained ten!) Im Debbie 37 yrs old traveling with my son Bryan 6 yrs. old. I booked a CAT 11 assigned to cabin 5131. I didnt expect an upgrade and I didnt get one.
Day One
I drove to Cape Canaveral on the morning of June 3rd. We live about 75 minutes away. We arrived around 10:45 am perfect timing. I drove up showed my drivers license and unloaded the luggage with no lines and proceeded to parking. Inside the terminal lines werent long except in the line to board. Boarding began around noon and it didnt take long at all to find our way to Parrot Cay for lunch. We were seated with Barbara and Tony. I loved the banana and strawberry chilled soup, tasted like a smoothie. Lunch was great even though my cheesecake was slightly frozen in the center. After lunch I took Bryan swimming at the Mickeys pool. Once again perfect timing, not too crowded. I meet Judy and her family. I met her on the disboards, she has a daughter the same age as Bryan and they had emailed each back and forth too. It was nice that Bryan and I made a friend before the cruise started. Our cabin was nice a little small, but it was just the two of us. Lito was our stateroom host. I requested for late seating and was assigned to early seating. I went to go to change it I was the only one on the request list that wanted to change early to late and there wasnt any problems. I have a complaint about the safety drill. My son had his lifejacket on you cant look down. We had to exit down a service stairway with only one side had handrails. Bryan was almost to the bottom step when he fell down two steps and scraped/smallcut on his knee. I would waited to get to your meeting spot before putting them on next time. We went to the sail away party, but Bryan didnt want to stay he claimed that the music was too loud. So we went to the secret deck 7 and watched us sail away. Kelsey, Judys daughter came to our cabin with a cake for Bryan. Did I mention how nice this family is? I signed Bryan into the kids club and I went to Hercules. I liked the show. I dont think Bryan would of though, a lot of adult humor that he wouldnt understand. We had dinner at Tritons. We were seated with a married couple and their friend. What interesting people and I mean that in a good way. The wife is a school teacher, the husband was very child oriented, he even tried to teach Bryan how to make an instrument out of a glass of water. He always had such fascinating stories to share. Their friend works for Disney as a designer and even worked on the Magic for 3 months when it was being built. I was fortnuate to be seated with these folks. I had the garlic tenderloin it was okay. Our assistance sever was Dermesch (sp?) and Alun from Scotland was our sever. Alun was amazing, if he wasnt married I would have taken him home with us.
Day at Nassau
We stayed on board. We skipped breakfast since we were still stuffed yet from dinner. I took Bryan swimming at the Mickey pool and chatted with my new friend Judy as our kids swam. The pool was not crowded but it started to around 11 oclock. When we returned to our room to change for lunch there was a bottle of Martini & Rossi without any note. I called guest services and they said that nothing was sent to my room and I wasnt charged. Lito said that it must be free. We ate lunch at Beach Blanket. As we were walking through the kids side we heard Hello Mr. Bryan, it was Alun. Food was good. They had fried clams, crab claws, and one of my favorite dessert crepes made to order. I signed Bryan into the kids club they were Invade the Lab. The mystery continues, I went back to the cabin and there was a tray of chocolate-covered strawberries, cheesecake, and other petitfords still with no note. I signed Bryan out a short time later so we could attend make your own kite. Bryan was getting tried, but I signed Bryan back in the club and I went the 2 oclock showing of Raising Helen. Afterwards we just hung out at in the cabin for awhile to rest before the 6:30 show Golden Mickeys. During the show Bryan looked at me and said that he was having a great time. We really enjoyed this show. Before dinner we went dancing at Sea Studio for family disco. It was neat that they gave commentary (non-alcohol) tropical drinks. Dinner was at Animators Palate. My table companions asked us if we were having as much fun as they were having. Of course you know our answer. I didnt like my selections. I order the flat bread duck and goat cheese. I thought it was horrible, but others at my table loved it. My grilled medium sirloin was dry and so what tasteless. The strawberry shortcake was the tradition type with the biscuit type cake. We made it to the tropical buffet. We just went to the dessert side. A lot of choices and it was sooooo good.
Castaway Cay Day
Once again we skipped breakfast due to last night eats. We debarked around 9 oclock and heard for the family beach. The weather was perfect and the water was crystal clear. We selected a spot across from the showers and just below Cookies. No hammocks except in the sun by Heads Up Bar. Bryan and I tried snorkeling. He practiced for a few weeks prior in our pool, but was having some difficulties so we soon abanded it. By 11:00 the beach was quiet full and the water wasnt as clear. Bryan had made plenty of friends and was busy making sandcastles. I had a slight problem getting him to leave to go eat. We ate a Cookies I love those ribs. Just a few feet from us was Judy and her family. It was so nice that we kept running into each other. Bryan and Kelsey enjoyed playing together and I enjoyed talking to Judy. We left shortly after one oclock we stopped at Monstro Point. I dont now if it was my imagintion, but it seems much hotter here. It seem like there wasnt any sea breeze there. ??? I noticed that at Scuttles Cove there were kids spraying down with a waterhose. After showering and resting we picked up a quick bite Scoops they had great chicken caesur and seafood wraps. Bryan wanted to go swimming, the Mickey pool was unexpectedly closed so he went to the goofy pool. This pool is 4ft dept and he just could touch. I signed Bryan into the club for the rehearsal. After the debarkation presentation the Discover the Magic Kids show started. The Disney Dreams show was tonight. Its amazing that they can perform such fabulous shows on a cruise ship. We watched Walk the Plank show. The captain was so hilarious. Dinner was at Parrot Cay. My favorite meal was here. I loved the creamed crab newberg with torritio chips, words cant describe the cold mango & papaya soup, and the ribeye was fantastic. Bryan had always ordered macaroon & cheese and pizza, but tonight he wanted chicken wings and ribeye. He ate every bite. I handed them their envelopes just in case I didnt see them in the morning. I packed and had the luggage out in time and even filled out my paperwork.
Debarking Day
We had second breakfast seating so we watched Cheaper by the Dozen on the tv until it was time to leave. They made the announcement at 7:30 that customs gave clearance. Our breakfast was at Parrot Cay. I ordered the blueberry pancakes. There were two and quite small, but I wasnt that hunger. Debarking was a breeze. The potter was lined up and was more than eager to assist with your luggage right to your car. I cant express how helpful this is when traveling along with a child.
My Finally Words
The weather was perfect all three nights. Castaway was amazing. Ive lived in FL for 31 yrs. and in the past 10 yrs. Ive only been to the beach twice. Beside the life jacket complaint the only thing I didnt like was the cabin noises. I could hear my neighbors talking all hours in the mornings and nights and this may sound weird but it sounded like they were moving furniture around. Everyone I came across, cruisers including the crew were so friendly. (cruise director was Kara) Its amazing how many people you will meet. You know that saying, Smile it makes people wonder what you been up to. The best thing to purchase before cruise is the id holder lanyard. Write a posting on disboards asking if anyone else is cruising with you. Its great to make a friend with someone before you start your cruise. Use the potters, its worth the tip money. Most important thing is Being Organized this save so much time. Read the navigator the night before and remember unless you are superwoman you most likely wouldnt see everything. This is okay it's a good reason to rebook. Best word to describe our cruise Amazing. Hope you enjoy you cruise as much as us.
