June 1, 2008 7-Night Mexican Riviera Cruise All Aboard is now back on Land

Sandy - I think I will be able to recognize your DH on the ship. He looks the same in both photos! Too funny!!!!!

I just want to get on board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DD is 8 this year and we can give her sign in/out priveledges. We told her if she acted responsible before the trip we would let her. She had been and ANGEL ever since. I worry about it, although, she's also been on this ship 4 times and knows it like the back of her hand. Am I crazy to even think about letting her sign herself in and out of the kids area? We do have walkies and I plan to leave one with her. Last year we gave her charging rights and outside of one mis-step at Quartermasters, she did good. What do you guys think????

My DH always has the same face... in fact we tease him all the time and he says "this IS my happy face". LOL :rotfl:

Regarding your little girl signing herself in/out....
Your daughter will be 8 years old. Personally, I would NEVER allow my child to do this at any age... IMHO it is not safe to have your 8 yr old daughter wandering around alone without adult protection. I know it is Disney and we tend to have a "false" sense of security while onboard that nothing can or will go wrong and while I do tend to stand a bit on the OVER protective side of the room, please don't lose sight of the fact that Predators are everywhere and they take every available opportunity such as a child walking around alone. You can go to this website and research this yourself if you like. This incident is toward the bottom of the page in 2007 (2/1/2007) but it is on a DCL ship. You can also view all incidents according to cruise lines and there are more than I care to see on DCL. :sad2:

All great points. I was surprised that Disney even gave the kids that option at such a young age. She's been on this ship so many times and she knows it like the back of her hand but I still think its too young! Last year she begged me to walk around the ship alone so I gave her a walkie and let her go, but then I snuck behind her and watched her the whole time!!!!! LOL!

It's going to be a battle though if other kids her age are able to do it and I won't let her...

I do like that site though. It's nice to see there are NOT many DCL reports!

:thumbsup2 I totally understand. My kids were the same way... so-and-so's mom lets them do this and that... why can't I? ... my standard answer was/is... "so-and-so has a nice mom, you don't, I'm mean and you can't go, THAT's why." :lmao:

Sandy,
I like your answer. I do agree with you. I would tell mine because I am your mother and I don't care what there mother lets them do. I think all kids say so and sos mom. I know I did but my mom was like I was and still are.

When my kids were young, I kept them close to home and never allowed them to spend the night at friends, as I never knew what might go on at someone else's house... what kind of language they might use or what they may allow the kids to watch on tv or what rules they had or worse, didn't have. So our house was "the" house on the street where everyone played and where everyone was welcome and I was always there to keep an eye on everyone and I always knew where my children were and who they were with. One Thursday my daughter came home from school in tears because she knew that on Friday her friends were going to ask her to come spend the night that weekend and she knew she was not allowed. She said she didn't know how to explain that her mom was a psycho and did not trust anyone and was afraid that someone's father would molest her or walk around naked or use swear words or get drunk in front of her. She said she just didn't know what to say to them. So I told her to just tell them that her mom was MEAN and didn't let her do anything. She said the next day when the girls asked her, she said, "I can't" and when they asked why not, she said "I've got a mean mom" she said the girls all nodded their heads at the same time and said Oooooooooooh... like they understood! She came home so happy... cause finally she felt like she fit in! hahaha :rotfl:

Sandy that is hilarious! I am a pretty laid back mom I guess - compared to you anyway! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: We always have kids here but it's probably more because I am too laid back!

Today is my birthday! :bday:

We have had The Halloween Double Dip planned for 6 months.
DS came home from school a week ago worried about missing school for Cruise, as he is starting High School.

So we searched and searched and found this cruise to be our best bet!

We have points DVC....that we have to use by Oct so we wanted to get the most out of our points.

Funny we are flying across the coutnry to do a cruise.....
BUt i thik it it will be enjoyable and different.

We are also staying 2 nights before and 3 nights after.
So we can see some local sights

I will read back through soem stuff but can you give me some points of interest any meets or wearing matching t shirts to the port?

ETC......

Do tell me all the good stuff.

We were a little upset to not get a palo but that is okay i would rather have no Palo than have a cold beach.......... we were thinking of doing a Christmas Cruise.

Sounds good! It is so nice to do it with points!:) ou will love the Grand california. We stayed there for a week a couple of years ago. We had a reeom facing The Califorina Adventure park. I would wake up in the morning get a cup of coffee and sit on the balcany and wath them get ready for the day it was great. It was also nice to people watch during the day.

Lynn, I just noticed that you live in FLORIDA!....
you literally ARE flying across the WHOLE country to cruise.
My family did the same thing in 2006... man was THAT a looooong trip, we were flying Delta and we had to be taken off of 2 planes because of engine problems! :scared1: We didn't think we would EVER arrive! It took us 19 hours before we were finally at our hotel. Talk about exhaustion and frustration. Thank goodness that we were there 5 days before our cruise or we would have missed the ship! :sad2:
So I'm sending you double doses of pixie dust for your trip. pixiedust:pixiedust: Flo, this goes for you too, as I know you are flying from almost as far.

At the Paradise Pier we have a Standard View which i would asume is a parking lot or another building.
At Grand Californian we have Park or Pool view, i would imagine with this late date it will be pool.
But i am just happy to be havingit at all.
But i bet that would be an awesoem sight in the mornings!

YES we are traveling a long ways to cruise!

BUT doesnt it seem like more of a vacation to FLY to your destination??:confused3

When we cruised from Port Canaveral, we just were a couple hour Drive from home.
I sure hope we dont have any bad luck on the way there!:scared1:

On the way back i can handle!
