Greetings! My wife and I will be joining you on this cruise as well.

We are planning on spending a few days in London before the cruise. How risky is it booking a flight from London to Barcelona for the day of the cruise? Are there usually delays/issues on that route?

There are quite a few firms that go London to Barcelona ( and the prices seem to be good too)

Although personally I would never fly the same day, I would not be able to rest. But then thats probably me being paranoid - I would hate to miss the ship.

We plan to get to Barcelona a couple of days beforehand -

There are many flights each day London to Barcelona and with the ship not leaving until 9pm you should be fine under all normal circumstances. If you want abudget airline try easyjet, very good prices and several flights a day.
Unfortunately it's not unknown for strikes etc to mess european flights up and so personally I'll fly in the day before.
Nice to meet you all now we have 16 months ahead of us for planning

Welcome all!!! I booked today too (officially!) We will have to come at least a day early just to play it safe.
My family is DD23; DD20; DD17; my DH & I........The "rents" are still deciding......We cruised with Lynn & Keith last summer and they are terrific.........I'm psyched to meet the rest of us!! There are many familiar names from other threads...............

I want you all to know that Lynn is an AMAzing trip planner.........do whatever she is doing!!!!

This is sooooooooooooo exciting, we've been planning to do this since last summer...............and we've never been to Europe (except for DD23).........let's the games begin!!!!!!!!!!!

The Mrs. and I are booked into a Secret Verandah room, with our boys (DS-11 & DS-9) just across the hall in an Inside Stateroom.

Hope that all of our luggage makes the flights -- we don't travel light!. We'll miss just driving the whole load to Port Canaveral.

Really, Lynn, you inspired me last summer, to save more money and plan better excursions!!

Hopefully that will be next years course!!

As long as I know these phrases I'll be alright;

"Where is the Port with the big ships?"
" A Vodka and coke please"
"Where is the nearest toliet?"
" Have you seen Mickey Mouse?"
" A white coffee please with one sugar" (Normally I drink decaf but I wouldn't want to complicate things )

For those in Uk - I've emailed BA, Monarch and fly globespan (scotland) to find out when they release the flights for july 2007. Monarch ( Manchester) have replied so far saying this summer. Also found jet2. com fly to barcelona from leeds bradford and Thomson fly . com from coventry.

Im looking for cheap and that will allow more than 20kg!! ( I know Monarch Dont)

British airways fly to Barcelona, so you might get a deal with a stop over in LONDON en route, that might be best.

Remember there is an hours difference between UK and Spain so calculate that in onany flights as going takes 'one hour more' due to the loss of time zone

Thanks for the tip Andrew - in my "planning" I used the BA website with dates this year and have the plan of doing Boston-London (stay 3 or 4 days) - Barcelona - Boston. Those flights fit my it can't be more than this number. I was just wondering if I could do better (with copious amounts of luggage) doing 2 separate round trips - Boston - London - Boston and London - Barcelona - London.

My wife had me do the same thing through Paris, but it was several hundred dollars more per person I can't figure out how to drive the price down for Paris. Since the kids haven't been to Europe London will be a good introduction before the cruise. The price difference is because BA, American and Virgin all flying the route. On Boston - Paris it is an hour further flight and there seems to be less competition so the prices are higher.

Hey everyone! We currently have a cabin reserved on this cruise and are making the final decision on the deposit tonight. Here's hoping we stay on the ship.

One item to note on airfare etc is to check on the policies flying within Europe for baggage and make sure it's not different from flying over from the US. I'm not certain, but I have heard of a few airlines that have different weight and bag number requirements within Europe and for those of us from the US that travel heavy (ok I need all those shoes) it can be costly.
