I tutor 4 kids at a special school for homeless kids one afternoon a week & I've promised each of them that I will bring them back something from the country of their choice from this trip. What have I gotten myself into?! I have no idea what kids their age would like from Europe! Any ideas on what I should be on the look-out for?

11 y-o girl - Spain
11 y-o boy - France
11 y-o boy - Spain
14 y-o girl - Italy

Any suggestions appreciated! :)

My suggestion would be something along the lines of a postcard that shows several pictures of that country. Not really sure what else to suggest for children that age.

DVCSpain, I wish you all the best and hope she is feeling better!

Just one more day of physical therapy for an ankle injury I developed a few weeks ago. I'm nervous about a few of these long excursions, but I will just have to make sure I wear supportive shoes!

Haven't started packing yet, but my typed list is HUGE! I keep thinking of more and more to bring, so I think I'll put everything together Friday and Saturday.

We won't be able to come to lunch at Lumiere's because of a Palo brunch, but thanks for the invite! I still am amazed at how many DISers will be on board.

:dance3:

Thanks for posting Pirate Night. And LOL about am I ready to go - hee hee... I'm sure there will be five million other things I find that I must take care of before we leave. Haircuts that were supposed to happen today will not happen til Thursday as their favorite barber is off today and tomorrow. But I can take them early on Thursday and be done. Friday is big laundry day - finishing up everything. Tonight is clean out the frig night as garbage pick up is tomorrow. Saturday morning is clean the house before we leave morning. DH used to work Crime Scenes and would tell me stories about houses he had to go into and how horrible some were - ever since then, we always try to leave the house in good order, all the laundry put away, drain-board empty, kids' stuff picked up, etc. etc.

Work is slammin - I got two more assignments today that MUST be done before I leave on Friday. Don't they know I have a ship to catch????!!!!!!

I had been ironing tonight and put away clothes and tidy up the house. As I like house clean when away on holiday, like to come home house clean!!

Another 3 days left working, I was asking for night off this Friday but couldn't get it. Never mind unless I have everything and almost ready!!

Will do print out the forms soon and some Barcelona information too.

Cindy my mom will be glad to know that she is not the only one who has to have her house perfectly clean before she leaves. We will do major cleaning and rest of laundry on Friday and do touch ups monday morning while matthew is registring for next semesters classes. We are doing haircuts tomorrow and I've got to get my eyebrows waxed.

Good luck with all the hair cuts! I need my mani pedi myself, so I look forward to doing that on Saturday. princess:

Weather here has still been nasty, but it is supposed to be rain-free Sunday. I don't want to miss that connection! The airport we are flying out of is one of the worst airports in the country as far as the number of delays. :scared:

I'm still deciding what to wear on the airplane. To save space I might just wear shorts and a t-shirt instead of something that could double as pjs because we will have an entire day walking around Barcelona once we get there, and I don't want to look completely frumpy lol. I still want to be comfortable, though! :confused3

Sounds like everyone has been busy today. I helped my dh mow tonight and now I have an itchy and horrible looking rash on my foot going on up my leg. My ear is also killing me, I think it might be swimmers ear. OHHHHHH! I am going to go to my doctor tomorrow, as I don't want to chance flying with a bad ear. I have never had trouble until a flight from vegas last fall. I busted my ear drum when we were descending and it hasn't been the same since. We are blessed that we are traveling with my brother in law who is a family doc and bringing a large supply of antibiotics etc just in case.

I ordered our dis meet gifts from Oriental Trading and they came in the mail today. Let me just explain ahead of time that they looked much better online and I really had good itentions but now I am a little embarrased to hand them out, but at this point it is too late to change. My husband and I were cracking up when we saw them.:rotfl: We just all will have a good laugh next Wednesday.

I totally clean our house too before we leave too! I like coming home to a nice clean house. I bought a bunch of those plug in things so our house will even smell nice when we get back.

Have a good night.

Kathleen

How many sailaway gifts should we bring? I wish we had more time, but I am going to try and find something to bring.

Kathie,
I counted up 38 cabins, but of course you would probably deduct for your family :cool1:

I just got an email that something I had ordered for my dis gifts was not able to be shipped, :confused3  :scared: Now I don't know what I'm going to do :confused3

Oh well, guess you'll all be surprised!

So much to do, so little time :dance3:

Cindy,

A friend told me she always tried to leave her house in "dying order" when she went on a vacation :rotfl: just in case something happened and family needed to come in and take care of things. So Friday night my DH will do some housecleaning  while I finish packing.

I know what you mean about work...how is it people sense we are trying to go on vacation? That is when I always get hit with new customers wanting me to plan their trips for them. :wizard: Been burning the midnight oil this week, trying to finish up our own trip plans. :rolleyes1

Think I might make it though :dance3: We leave Saturday afternoon. :yay:

See you all next week. I just ordered room decor to surprise my DH for our
30th wedding anniversary.

The wife and I leave hot Maryland tomorrow for Barcelona then a flight to London for our 5 nights before returning to Barcelona to meet up with the granddaughter for the cruise. Only regret is that we aren't getting back into Barcelona until late on the 17th. We will only have the one night after the cruise to tour the city.

Got enough Euros and Pounds Sterling to last a few minutes (at least till I can get somewhere to get more.) Good exchange rate at my local bank.

My son still doesn't have his passport (he's going to Barcelona with his wife and my granddaughter on the 14th.) He submitted his application on the 19th of March and it is "still in processing." So much for 10-12 weeks processing time. He has to have it by Friday to do online checkin for his flight. Looks like he is going to have to drive to DC on Thursday to get it.

I didn't get upgraded from the Cat 6 GTY. Got a Cat 6 cabin fairly near the middle of the ship. Oh well!

When I get back, I am taking my grandson to WDW for a week starting on the 18th of August. Booked it offsite through my timeshare. Still have plenty of days on my collection of WDW tickets.

Hope to see everyone happy while waiting to get on the ship on Wednesday next week.

See you all then.

LVTravel - have a safe trip! Sorry to read about your son's passport - I hope he is able to get it to go without any hassle. Like you, we're regretting now not having more time in Barcelona, though truthfully, we'll have about the same amount of time in Barcelona on Tuesday afternoon / evening as we'll have at any other port. We'll just be tired unless we get some sleep on the flight over.

See you soon!

Well, I have to say that I am operating on only about 4 hours sleep and am at work already, but seeing the 12:01 a.m. opening of Harry Potter was a blast. DD only had to hit me once when I started dozing off! Got home at 3 a.m. Movie was excellent. Brought back memories of seeing Pirates of the Caribbean, At World's End at 12:01 a.m. May 25th in Barcelona on the Disney Magic. Now that was a blast. The Walt Disney Theatre was packed.

The previews showed a new Disney movie, I think it is called Enchanted and it opens November 21st. I immediately told DD "we will be on the Magic that week for Thanksgiving, maybe we will get to see it on the ship too!" So, now I am excited for another Disney movie coming out.

Okay, it's Wednesday (right?) yep, today's list of things to do:

manicure-at noon
do DH packing
attend homeowner's association meeting

Only 22 1/2 hours of work until I am officially on vacation!

Glad to hear the movie was good. We'll have to wait til after we get back home to see it - just no time to fit it in.

DS#1 has a tooth that is absolutely about to fall out, but he's hoping it will hang on til we're on the ship. Just one more thing for me to remember to pack (if you know what I mean!). He had his check-up today and we skipped the chicken-pox booster "just in case" he had a reaction or something to it. I didn't want to risk it, and as it turned out, the pedi's office was nearly out of them anyway.

Happy packing everyone.

I was looking at the Tour de France website and I'm not smart enough to figure out all the stages and the places, but will we be anywhere near the tour in any of our port stops? Was wondering if our Marseille switch with Villefranche had anything to do with the race?

FYI: "Le Tour de France" will be in Marseille next wednesday the 18th. and departs again the next day towards Montpellier. So I don't think that's the reason why DCL switched the dates.

Greetings You all,

Just discovered the DIS Board in the last week and have found it very helpful to answer critical questions.
Wife and I will be joining the 7-18 cruise for our 25th anniversary!

So add us to the list

Welcome to our group Ben and Happy Anniversary. Be sure to stop by our DIS Meet on board ship Wed. 7/18 an hour before the safety drill. We will all be in the Promenade Lounge. Look forward to meeting you and everyone else in the thread here!

I counted 38 staterooms on the list....

We only have 30 gifts.. Now not enough time to get others.

Sorry for that.
For the others we can bring a typical dutch type of candy.
Shall we do that ?

And here a question for the Belgium people :
Spreken jullie Nederlands / Vlaams ?

Greetings,

Hans Tiems

Only 3 nights and we are off...:hourglass
Are you all also extra carefull, just to be sure you can go on the cruise ?
