January no buy

My goal: NO unnecessary spending, NO meals out, NO purchased entertainment except using allowance for movie rental, and keep groceries as low as possible.

week 2: NO unnecessary spending
$39 - food (mostly beverages for 2 nights of dinner company):cheer2:

week 1: $2 on infant Santa suit at 90% off at Target, $53 for food

So, we spent a major chunk at the doctor (insurance doesn't help till we spend the first $2500) and some at the hardware store replacing a broken tp holder and replacing a shower head. But, only 2 bucks on "stuff" and $92 on food so far this month.

I give myself an "A." Thanks for your help!

My payment to Disney is due on March 26th, so I'm planning on only buying necessary groceries and gas until then. I've done well so far, except for a couple of medical co-pays. Crossing my fingers that my 11 year old can go the rest of the month without needing stitches.

So I caved this morning. I couldn't help it! I purchased my DD a t-shirt on-line for $12.50 (after shipping). I'm thinking of giving it to her for Valentine's Day. (If I can keep from giving it to her before then! M u s t h a v e w i l l p o w e r . . .). I don't plan on leaving the house today until I go to my oldest DD's for dinner. I will call on the way to see if she needs us to bring anything, of course, but hopefully there won't be anymore $ going out today. (fingers crossed). :goodvibes

Will use this space to update later today. I feel like I just spent way too much money. In reality it was all entirely grocery items, I just went to 3 different stores to get them. Our area is having their big "stock up" sales, so it made sense to go to all 3 major stores and buy the things they were competing on.
Let's just say I have enough pasta sauce, school lunch items, pasta, frozen juice, bacon etc. to last until summer!

I made it through Target! I really wanted to browse, but I had everyone with me so we moved right along.

1/14: $100 soccer registration, $20 Lands' End (boy clothes -- might was well be a disposable in my house after growth spurts, ripped knees, and mysterious stains), $50 Target (cat litter, cleaning things, a present for tomorrow's birthday party, and bins for my classroom), and gas.

no buy days: 5/10
dinners out: 2/4
non consumables purchased: 4/0 (I'm only counting things that are staying in my house)

Hi Pigletto,

Always looking for things for lunch.

Fruit snacks (I only get the 100% fruit ones), several types of crackers, juice boxes and Michelenas were on sale. DD has access to a microwave so she takes those twice a week. I can't stock up on the fresh stuff, and make a lot of the cookies/muffins, but those were a few of the things we normally get that were on sale.:)

The 0 days thing is not going too well, but not bad on the spending. I just could not resist getting 2 pairs of jeans at Old Navy today- they cost $2.47 each. I'm not kidding. :-)

Unless you already have 12 pairs of jeans or they were 4 sizes too big and you are planning to grow into them, this seems like a GOOD spend. :goodvibes

Congratulations on not buying 4 shirts, 3 cammies, two coats, and a pair of fuzzy socks to go with them.

Thank you Ann! I had a $25 gc, but decided not to use when my total purchase was 5 bucks and change.

Today is a 0... apparently the only way I can get one is to not leave the house. :-)

Ugh! Things are not going well with the budget. I am really struggling with being the "bad guy" on where money is spent, especially eating out. My family is used to eating out every weekend. It is both a treat and a boredom buster. Additionally we do have the money to eat out, we are just trying to cut back so we can by a new house. Knowing we "have it" makes everyone but me ok with throwing budget out the window. so we have eaten out twice this weekend because my pleas to eat it and save fall on closed ears. So Friday went from no buy day to $30.00 pizza out. and Saturday was cheeseburger bobby's for lunch while we were out running errands. Kept offering to make lunch for everyone before we left to run errands and asking what they wanted but everyone knew if they did not answer they would get to eat out with Dad.

So
/1 $0
1/2 groceries 112.00
1/3 walmart 59.00 of which $20.00 was groceries
1/4 $0
1/5 big spend day $30.00 Dr. copay, 12.99 amazon for a new vacuum filter, $20.00 pull ups. I am not out but had a good coupon about to expire so I now have enough for month at least. $53.00 groceries. $6.00 lunch Jersey Mike's, $2.00 breakfast bar and drink
1/6 40.00 gas
1/7 took inlaws for lunch for father in laws 82nd birthday $94.00, lowe's $20.00 concrete sealer, petsmart $23.00, lunch will blow our eating out budget but well worth it as inlaws are letting us live for free in their lake house while we buy a house.
1/8 another $68.00 out of the grocery budget.
1/9 $0
1/10 41.00 Gas, 70.00 Groceries, 128.00 dental visit, 6.50 kids report card treat
1/11 $0
1/12
1/13 $30.00 pizza
1/14 $21.00 cheeseburger bobby's, $51.00 TJ MAxx underwear and gloves
$35.00 publix cold medications and beer

4/20 no buy
$323.00/$525.00 groceries
$153.00 of $150.00 eating out and it is only 1/15

Hang in there, mom4graceandlogan! Eating out is our single biggest issue too, compounded by the fact that I hate to cook. Just check out today's totals:

1/15: dinner out, despite an already partially cooked meal waiting! After my 11 mile run, I didn't have the willpower to say no when my DH asked if I wanted him to pick up takeout. Sigh.

no buy days: 5/10
dinners out: 3/4

Today I helped my Grandma get all of her Christmas decorations down. On the way home I stopped at Walgreen's for my mom. She has been fighting a cold and needed some meds. I also picked up some items we needed that were on sale.

The thing about the eating out is that I am never sorry that we stayed in AFTER we eat. It's just tempting when we're all starving and tired. So the earlier I plan the better. Once we're full, whether that be a nice dinner or a peanut butter sandwich, nobody cares where we ate. I try to remember that when everyone is asking for pizza. Once dinner is on the table they are happy to eat whats in front of them.
I worked all afternoon on reducing our Universal trip costs. I managed to save 180 on the reservation and was thrilled! 3 or 4 dinners out and I will have blown that savings ..so I am trying to keep that in mind this week.

Yesterday was a great day!!! I managed not to spend a single dime!:cool1: but today I had to pick up some trail mix for my dh's lunch for work. Then I passed through the girls section and saw shorts on clearance for 6.48 each. I also work for target so 10% off discount and an extra 5% for the red card made me not pass up the shorts. LOL But tomorrow will be a better day because I do have to work ( I will not walk around the store tomorrow), then they next three days I have off will will be staying home, I hope!

1/14- $0
1/15 -21.00 target for dh's trail mix snacks and two pair of clearance shorts for my dd.

Heading back to the surgeon this morning for an appointment for him to look at the surgical site and tell me the results from pathology. A little scared to get that information.... I'm hoping he'll be taking the stitches out today because my head really hurts. But it's only been a week and I don't know how long stitches usually stay in. Anyway, that will be another $50.00 co-pay. Ugh.
