Where'sPiglet, I am doing the Princess! I'm very nervous as it's my first race and I'm not really a runner, but I've been using the Jeff Galloway training and am right on track. My sister and cousin (both of whom are runners to begin with) are running with me, and we have 17 people coming to cheer us on, so I'm really excited about that!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

You are going to have so much fun!

I did the Princess in 2010 as my first half marathon. I have that trip report in my signature; it has a lot of information about how the Princess was. I think you may have read it already.

I also used Jeff Galloway's training method, but I was not right on track with it! :headache: The longest training run I ever did was 10 miles, and I only got myself down to a 14:00 minute/mile prior to the event.

My advice would be to go to Wolfgang Puck Express in DTD or another place for pasta the night before, and just have fun during the event. I alternated walking and jogging throughout the race. I did not have a specific time goal in mind - my goal was simply to FINISH and get that medal! I finished in about 3 hours and 30 minutes.

I will say that I struggled more when I did the Disneyland Half later in 2010. I didn't write a trip report about it, but it was not as much fun and more anxious because a few times we saw the people with the flags, and we were only a few minutes ahead of the cut-off to be potentially swept. Apparently, official people on bikes ride to each mile marker and place a little red flag on the mile marker. I believe it's every 16:00 minutes or 16:30 (whatever the official pace is) after the last person in the last corral crosses the start line. They stand around for a few minutes at the mile marker before it's time to place the flag, and warn you to pick up the pace because you are only __ minutes ahead. If you encounter this, SPEED UP, because the bus can pick up anybody that is behind that pace! :scared1: (I did finish the Disneyland Half also, again in about 3:30.)

I have only done those 2 half marathons. I'd like to get back into at some point, but haven't just yet. I bought some "muscle therapy" bath bombs at Basin when I was at DTD for dinner. It felt good to take a bath with one after the event. I think you are supposed to take a cold bath or shower first, to help your muscles. I also pushed myself WAY too hard after the event because I was at WDW and wanted to be in the parks and I was so excited that I couldn't sleep. This backfired because the time I spent in the parks was not quality - I was far to exhausted to enjoy myself. At Disneyland, I would not allow myself to go back to the parks until I had slept for a few hours. I was able to enjoy myself much more later that night and the following day.

Its still early today, but I have no plans to be going anywhere or spending anything.

A little over budget today - - $9.14 at the Post Office. I had a budget of $125 for groceries and whatnot. I spent $142.00 at Target this morning, after $35.73 in savings in coupons and using my Target debit card! I don't plan on leaving the house again today, or even tomorrow for that matter. Tomorrow should be another No Buy day!

Update for me ...

1/7 6.00 - McDonalds -will be able to claim on expenses for this.

1/5 $0
1/6 $50.00 gas
1/7 $5.76 Michaels, $48.10 Walmart (crafts and groceries), $ pizza?

I'm grocery shopping tomorrow, so that should be the last of the spending this weekend. I hope to stay in next week, so we can save money for the 3 day weekend the kids have coming up for Martin Luther King Jr. day. They want to go the the theater for our outing.

Target for the month is NO unnecessary spending.

Had my first, minor "whoops" today. At Target for medicine I saw a Santa sleeper for a 3 month old complete with hat and tiny black boots. At 90% off it came to $1.30

At that price, it went into the cart and will be ready for whoever gets pregnant in the next few months;)

DH gave me a funny look when I returned with children's cough medicine rather than adult strength. But, because of a sale and coupons, I bought the same amount of active ingredient for $7.35 cheaper than in adult strength. He'll have to take 2 tablespoons rather than one to get the same dose. Another few dollars for Disney.

How smart is that! :worship: I wish I could think like that. What other little tricks do you know?

A very spendy day here, sort of. I had planned to pay off our Feb. WDW trip, but they closed at 6! I knew the IRUN Disney office wasn't open as late as normal reservations, but I thought I had until 8! Still, for the discounted room/ticket rates, I'll deal with it. I'm not counting this against tomorrow's no buy though as I planned and tried to do it today.

We are going in Feb. Can you explain the discounted room/ticket rates and what that has to do with the IRUN Disney office please?

Today is a 0 day. I'm going to have to try for one each weekend since getting one during the week is difficult.

Where'sPiglet, thank you! I did 9.5 miles at 14:04/mile last weekend, so I think we're at the same place! :) This is a short weekend, and then next one I tackle 11 miles. I don't have a flat place to run, so I'm hoping all of this hill training comes in handy!

Annsteere, the discounts are for Princess Half Marathon runners -- sorry! We booked the rooms back in July, too! I had to buy the tickets and book rooms through a different phone number (1 407 IRUN WDW) and have my race registration number.

Another spendy day, but I returned several things and dropped off three bags of clothing donations so it was a net positive for the amount of clutter in the house.

1/7: $110 soccer registration, $25 for saline!, $21 Bath and Body Works, $30 gas, $7 book order for DS

no buy days: 2/10
dinners out: 1/4
non consumables purchased: 4/0 (2 books for DS, although he doesn't need them)

It sounds like you will be ready! A large part of completing the race is putting your mind to it!

I didn't have a hilly place to run. It's very flat here. Fortunately, Florida is also quite flat! There are a few hills in the Princess, so the hill training should be beneficial!

I am not going to the Princess this year, but I'd like to go again next year.

So, we got home this morning from Vegas and we were up. Like, a lot. However, after all of the money we spent the past couple of days, I am done. I'm sending my BF to the store for a few things tomorrow, but other than that, I don't want to spend any money for the rest of the week.

The only thing I can think of that I need is a new planner for my classes. Classes start Monday, so I'll probably end up at the store after my last class. We are finally replacing the battery on my car tomorrow as well, since I'll have to drive to class.

12/26 - $11 at Chick-fil-a, on a gift card.
12/27 - $15 at Chick-fil-a - Needed to get the kids out of the house. $60 at Target. $30 on groceries and $30 on household
12/28 - $0
12/29 - $30 - at the grocery store. I think this should be enough to last until we leave for Vegas!
12/30 - $0 - only because the battery in my car died, and I don't see the point of getting it fixed right now. I figure something has to happen for me to stay home and stop spending money, lol
12/31 - $0!
1/1 - BF spent $50 at walmart on a few things of groceries (seriously?!) and the few odds and ends for our trip. I went to dinner with our friend who is going back to the Navy tomorrow ($23) and to Kohl's for a winter jacket for my dd ($55, we ended up getting a jacket, a pretty dress for her birthday tomorrow and a sweater)
1/2 - My daughter's birthday was today, and all of our plans bomb! lol. We were going to take her to the mall for Build a Bear and to get her ears pierced, but my bf's mom wanted to come with and couldn't come tonight. So, my daughter asked to go to Ikea for dinner and to play in the play place, and it was full with a full wait list. Oh did she cry! So, we ended up going to Chick-fil-a for $20. Poor thing. We're hitting up both the mall and Ikea on Saturday when we get back
1/3 - VEGAS!
1/4 - VEGAS!
1/5 - VEGAS!
1/6 - VEGAS!
1/7 - Birthday Extravaganza!

And pretty much I won't have any money to spend for the rest of the month, lol

My goals:
1. I'd like to get 5 no spend days - 3/5
2. Grocery spending under $300 for the month - $85/$300
3. Clothes spending at $100
4. Discretionary at $100 - My boyfriend thinks we need to go out way more than I think. This could be our battle. 43/100
5. Household - $120 - $110/120 - obviously under budgeted that category, but I usually have a separate one for clothes, but didn't think we would need anything this month.

Today I stayed home and started deep cleaning house for DH's arrival home from Afghanistan. Probably too early, but it makes it seem like he's almost home.

Congrats on your hubby coming home! And I honestly doubt he'll notice a messy house ... lol

I spent $3.29 for fast food today.

1-7 $3.29
1-6 $0
1-5 $0
1-4 $2.17
1-3 $80.28
1-2 $0
1-1 $54.83
$45.76/100 Groceries
$15.61/50 Natalie's clothes
$78.11/100 My clothes
$0/25 Birthday
$86.63/90 - Household stuff
$40 - Chinese New Year, tickets & DD's dance costume
$23.22/50 - Mad Money

1: $0
2: $64.05 Gas, Lunch, & Groceries
3: $0
4: $0
5: $21.20 Groceries
6: $9.81 Dinner with a friend
