I have a question for you experts...are there retractable clothes lines in bathrooms/showers at AKL (to hang wet suites)?

I know how you feel Johnsmom. DH is in the air force and right now hes over there as well. But he will be home at the end of next month / beginning of Oct. He's been over there since May of this yr. Luckly AF deployments are no more then 6 months. This is our 1st deployment and surprising as it is, I got through ok thanks to the DISers! But one thing I dont mind about the deployment is we are gonna be able to stay at the AKL next yr! If it hadnt been for this deployment we would be resorted staying at a value which I am not to fond of. Planning this trip for our 1st stay at the AKL and doing the dining plan for the 1st time has gotten me super pshyched! DH asked me the other day online if I was more excited about him coming home or our disney trip next August and all I could say was ummmmmmmm

Don't forget to mention on your ressies (and at checkin) that you are celebrating your anniversary while at WDW. You might get some extra pixie dust and get upgraded.

I did it! I just officially paid our trip in full - whew, that was a tough one but now I'm so happy because there's no turning back now!!

I am so happy I decided to book us at AKL (thanks to this thread). At first we were going to stay at ASMo which was MUCH more in the budget. When I went online to make the reservations, it was booked. So I gave it some thought and decided to book CSR instead, which I did. Then when they extended the free dining sign-up dates there become availablity again at ASMo so I switched the resie back to ASMo, our first choice (on my budget). But after reading this thread (in its entirety) I decided to take a leap of (financial) faith and book a standard room at AKL. And over time I have not regretted the decision one bit (except that my entire 2-week paycheck just went to pay off our package ) - I can't wait!


My DD8 still thinks we're staying at ASMo, which was fine to her. Until last night. I sat her down to watch Great Hotels: AKL with me and she was so fascinated by it that she actually got teary eyed when I told her we just can't afford to stay there, but ASMo will still be fun. She said, "If we stayed there I would NEVER want to leave!" You got that right sweetie! I did tell her we would go check out the AKL when we first arrive in Orlando before heading over to MGM, and that we had ADR's to each breakfast at Boma one morning.

Throughout this whole trip planning process she hasn't shown much excitement. I think she thinks she's a little too old for Disney because she knows the characters are just people dressed up in costumes. We went when she was 3 and she had a blast and still remembers bits & pieces, but not the whole "impact" of Disney. I'll admit I've been a little bummed that she hasn't shown excitement for this trip but last night I finally saw some glimmer in her eyes. After watching Great Hotels she went into her room and made a countdown chart to mark off how many days till we leave.

So here's my dilema...do I just spill the beans and tell her we're staying at AKL or wait until we're there? I'd like to wait but this is torture!!

...let her know that you are staying at AKL when you just 'stop there for a visit'!! I know that it'll be really hard to 'contain' yourself [been there- DONE that!] but it is soooo worth it.... !!

Thanks Kathy. I plan on mentioning it when we get there but I am booking my trip through AAA. Should I tell my TA to note it on my ressie or should I call the resort myself and have them note it? I wanted the note on there before we got there, but just tell them again when we get there. Although Disney is usually pretty good when it comes to notes on ressies. My sister always told them I was celebrating a bday each time I was there for my bday when she made the ressies, and only thing they did was said happy bday. No extra magic. Maybe being we are celebrating an anniversary maybe we will get some extra magic. I think when it comes to bdays and anniversaries, I think Disney leans a little more on anniversaries since they make a huge deal about weddings and honeymoons. Tech. this is like the honeymoon we never had. Its like a 2nd honeymoon I guess you could say.

...I know that WL has them, but I can't remember if AKL does also....I'm thinking YES, but I am not 100% sure....

Does AKL do anything special for birthdays? DH will be joining DS & I at the AKL 8/19 and staying w/us for our BCV 6nights.
The day after his bday last year he had his left kidney removed due to cancer. He had to fast on his bday last year. Not only are we celebrating his bday while in WDW but we're celebrating his one year cancer free!

I love these bags! Would you mind sharing a link? I have not done alot of shopping yet. I have bought quite a few pins for the boys to trade & matching shirts for us to wear from disney shopping. I also bought like 5 pairs of the flips for myself lol I live in these things in warm weather! Oh I also bought disney luggage awhile back when it was on sale. I can't wait to break it in!

The time does vary, but is always posted near bell services in the lobby and on a bulletin board on the ground floor near the elevators by Jiko and Boma.

*waving to Waterford* grew up west of there in Milford, dh works there now and we live north of there currently!

First, I love the bags! They are a perfect fit for the AKL. And yes, we have turned into shopping maniacs ! It seems like every other day a package arrives from Disney online, we are going broke saving money on goodies for our January trip....not to AKL this time, to the Poly so that "the girls" can enjoy their Hawaiian vacation.

Ok glad it is not just me and Wendypooh. Have you found that your stuff from Disney shopping was shipped fast? Another diser and I ordered some of the flip-flops together and we finally got the order in today after 2 weeks!!!! I figured for $8.50 in shipping I would have had them a lot sooner!!! Anyways I got my sister this beach towel and coordinating flip flops. Next week I have a polo shirt coming for mom and some goodies for me...like disney sheets

It took me over two weeks, but I finally finished reading all the posts in this thread!!!!! DH and I will be at AKL Sept. 5-10 celebrating my recent retirement (just when everyone goes back to school !!) and his advancement to third degree black belt in tae kwon do.

Even though I have just been lurking - - and reading, I want to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread and its unbelievable amount of information. I have found the answers to most all my questions here and I thank you.

I just can't believe I read the whole thing..............
