I've created a hotel SNOB!

DH and I don't mind the mods at all. In fact, I think our fave resort in CSR. Love the poly and WL too and when I go down with some gfs (3 days after coming back from FL) we are staying at AKL b/c we got such a great discount on it. Boy is DH sad about that. He finds any opportunity he can (which is often since I am always talking about disney with 2 trips in the very near future) to let me know that it is "BS that I have to stay at a freaking All stars and you get to stay at AKL." Poor baby, I have to promise that we will stay nicer next time we go.

It's just that the all-stars and Pop always seem so full of screaming kids (not regular kids... screaming ones). The mods and deluxes never seem that loud. I was wondering yesterday if it isn't that the values are just so.... COLORFUL... all those bright reds, blues, yellows, and purples. Maybe it overstimulates (along with the OMG Disney Disney Disney!) Maybe I should do a study....hmmmm I wonder if some psych or anthropology dept would like to fund me to live at disney for a while? I woudl have to stay at a mod or deluxe though...

When we went to Disney we stayed at the cheaper hotel. We decieded that we would rather spend the money on a longer stay (7 days instead of 5). Besides we were up at 7 am out the door at 8 stayed all day in the parks earliest we came back to hotel was 10 pm. Our dd was 11 so I knew when we went that we wouldn't be spending much time in the hotel. I just don't see spending so much more for a hotel room when you are only there to sleep and shower.

Hello, my DIS-name is RUDisney and I am a hotel snob.

We booked ASSp a few years ago because it was all that was available when we wanted to go. I didn't know at that time that we could potentially split our stay between two resorts. I agree with the screaming kids comment. Kids don't bother me. Screaming, over-stimulated ones do, but only when they're in packs like at the AS's. I hated the small room and the lack of ammenities. I promised that if we ever called again and couldn't get something better than a value hotel.

Since the kids arrived, we've only stayed at the BWV with rented points. I don't think my kids would care where they stayed as long as they were at WDW. But, my DH would care and we like the Epcot resorts for their convenience, so if we were to "step down" from the Disney Epcot Deluxe's, it would be to the Swan or Dolphin.

My funny story is that DH's best friend is getting married in July in the Thousand Islands. When he called to tell me where I should book our stay, he told me, "you'll probably not like anything. There are no hotels there that have turndown service." So, it's no secret that I'm a hotel snob. The place we wound up booking there, in a 1 BR for the 4 of us, is $88 pre night over July 4th weekend. I don't have high hopes for this being a nice place. Just a place to sleep and see our friends get married. Heck, this place is only $30 more for the same accommodations that we had in Bryansk, Russia. Sort of a 1 BR Econolodge kind of hotel. Blech!

In regards to spending money on a room you don't stay at... it's really up to the person IMO. We do spend some time in the room since we get to go fairly often (atleast 2x a year usually and we used to live in FL and go literally all the time) so there are times that we only go into the parks because we want to eat at a particular place.

The rooms at the values always make me a little claustrophobic too. They seem small and dark and, for lack of a better word, cheapie. But we can get over that.... it really is the droves of screaming kids.

I am just glad that we are not going during the cheerleading competition this year. Not only do you get screaming kids but also screaming/cheering gaggles of girls!
