It's official, Ohana menu change

I really can't say we are sad about this...we love Ohana for the salad, noodles, wings, potstickers and dessert...we eat some meat, but it's not the most exciting part to us. I think it is a weird change, but won't change us from going!

: (

Was really hoping this was just going to turn out to be a unfounded rumor (despite the good sources of course). I mostly eat the chicken skewers as I find the steak is often too rare for my taste. We have a December trip planned and were going to go there on my birthday but I may rethink that.

"Szechuan Sirloin"? Is this a change from how the steak was prepared from, say, a year ago? Because if they're adding some type of pepper spice rub to the steak before cooking, as well as removing the (reliably bland) chicken, I can't go back either. Dang. I already had to request the noodles on a separate dish last year because of cross-contamination from the peppers in the mixed stir-fry veggies. Peppers and I really, really don't get along well.

We went last night, and we were lucky enough to still get both chickens---- the skewers were so good. Gonna miss them!! We did notice that the chicken appetizer (served with the veggie dumplings) was not as spicy as normal---

I was honestly rather shocked (and disappointed) to see the menu change like that. Maybe I am just here with a family of picky eaters but it feels as though most of the items on the menu that remain are not exactly appealing to everyone that eats with me.

This must be a cost savings thing since it doesn't look like the chicken is being replaced with anything. Cutting out one of the skewers will save them $ and they probably chose the chicken since they have the wings for the appetizer.

I was just there two days ago. They served chicken off skewers.... When is this change happening.

Another disappointment I discovered this trip is the the mushroom filet at LeCellier has changed. They changed the mushroom risotto to a pea risotto. Blech, the risotto is also green in color. The sauce is also thicker and tastes different.

I could be crossing two of our favorite TS restaurants off our list...

Shoot.....we always eat there every trip. The chicken was my favorite. I can eat a little steak, but really can't eat too much of it, I don't eat the shrimp at all and I really don't like the seasoning on the pork at all.
I can't eat the bread, dumplings or noodles, so I am not left with much :(

The last time we at at Ohana was YEARS ago. Could they have served turkey instead of chicken back then?

Either way, we were served under-cooked poultry (and overcooked steak.)

Undercooked poultry really sketches us out. I'll need a whole new plate, knife and fork, thank-you-very-much. And I might not come back for 10 years and counting.....

Yes, before the chicken they had turkey. I can't remember for sure, but it may not have lasted very long. I remember it as being pretty dry most of the time.

Good to hear they paid attention to all the emails that were sent.

Did anyone who sent one ever get a reply?

Definitely just another cut-back.

My feeling is fine, if you're going to serve less food than before, the price should be lower. $50 says the price increases within 3 months.

I had dinner at 'Ohana last month and I thought the chicken was the best "meat" that night. I usually enjoy the steak but this night the pieces we got were so rare that all five of us adults could not eat them. That steak was still mooing. Finally near the end of the meal they came by again and we asked for more well done steak. I don't eat seafood so no shrimp for me but my husband and son love it. The pork is just okay in my opinion. I like chicken but I don't like chicken wings. The rest of my family loves them. So I think the removal of the grilled chicken will impact me the most out of my family, but I will make due with the steak and pork - but I'm not much of a sweet and sour fan! They need to leave the meat plain and let us choose our dipping sauces.

Isn't cutting back on chicken just going to mean that people are eating more steak and shrimp (to fill the portion of their bellies that would otherwise be occupied by chicken)? If you give me the choice of filling up on more salad and bread vs. more steak and shrimp, I'll be choosing the latter! Doesn't seem like a cheaper approach to me. Still just sounds like a pretty random decision by Disney that wasn't thought out from all angles. Would love to hear if anyone gets an official response as to why the decision was actually made. Of course, like any restaurant, I'm sure there were people complaining about dry chicken or occasionally undercooked chicken, but that's not a problem that is unique to 'Ohana, so I can't imagine that dissatisfaction with the chicken could possibly be a complaint so universal as to justify removing it from the menu altogether.

WHAT!! They changed the mushroom risotto! I was going to Le Cellier for the mushroom risotto and the filet of course.

I think I might have to cancel my Le Cellier reservation. I am not that fond of peas.

As for 'Ohana....I am not sure whether I will keep my reservation or not....I do like steak and pork....

I have no "dog in this fight" as our visits to 'Ohana have never been great and that style of dining just isn't our "thing". But I am having a hard time figuring out how a group of people could sit around a conference room table discussing how to freshen up the menu and deciding that as between pork and chicken, the chicken should be the one to get jettisoned from the menu. Now, personally, I prefer pork. But given certain dietary limitations and overall cost, it would seem to make more sense to get rid of "the other white meat" and keep "the original white meat".

It's very easy. You analyze the data in a completely unemotional manner. I don't know what criteria they're using but I would think it could be quantifiable data such as the protein with the highest volume thrown out or the protein least requested or the protein that requires the most time/man-hours to prepare or the protein that has the most complaints or who knows what other quantifiable data may potentially be used. You evaluate your goal in changing the menu and select the items that meet certain criteria for removal. It's the next step, deciding what to add to the menu, that is so much more subjective. That's done by chefs. I don't know if they're given by bean counters narrow or broad parameters for deciding what to add but within those parameters the chefs figure out what to add.

Totally off-topic - but WHAT???? The mushroom risotto is changed? They still have it listed as normal on the WDW menu? Oh well, doesn't matter too much anyway - all day signature has priced me out of our favorite restaurant.

When is this supposed to happen? I have an ADR there in exactly 2 weeks.
