It's official, Ohana menu change

I agree on that. If they hear enough negative feedback, maybe they will reconsider. I was chastised by another poster and told to just go to another restaurant to get chicken. O'Hanas is our family favorite and I don't want to go to another restaurant! I will do as you have instructed, then at least two voices will have been heard!

:lmao: Let's not get dramatic. They weren't even rude. All that poster said was that going to a restaurant that doesn't serve chicken and requesting it probably wouldn't be in the cards, which was in direct response to your question.

If they get enough emails and don't change the menu that'd be great, and then you don't have to worry about it at all.

Thank you for that. The words "chastised" and "told to" had my blood boiling and I was going to blast away at the ridiculous overreading of my post. But your post was a much more polite and dispassionate response and I will let it rest at that. :flower3:

I got a reply from Walt Disney World®.

Dear ..............

Thank you for your message regarding menu changes at 'Ohana at Disney's
Polynesian Resort.

We're glad you've chosen to dine at 'Ohana in June. We periodically
evaluate our offerings and make changes based on feedback from our
Guests. Our goal is to provide new and unique items along with our
Guest's favorites. As you may know, 'Ohana will continue to offer pork,
beef, and shrimp skewers. Chicken skewers will no longer be offered.
Instead, chicken wings, a popular favorite will now be offered as an
entrée. We've also added a new vegetarian appetizer and a child's
dessert.

Again, our Guests' feedback as well as their continued enthusiasm for
our products and services, is very important to us. Please know that
your comments have been taken seriously and shared with the appropriate
Leadership Team.

We genuinely appreciate the time you took to share your thoughts with us
and hope you will visit in June to try these new offerings.

Sincerely,

DorisAnne Bauer

In other words:

Dear Guest #347THJ869.

Thank you for your message regarding menu changes at 'Ohana at Disney's Polynesian Resort.

We're glad you've chosen to dine at 'Ohana in June. We frequently look for more ways to increase our profits through cutbacks, while giving completely senseless excuses to our guests, based on the demands of the Disney Executives. Our goal is to attempt to fool you into thinking you are getting an even replacement, when in actuality, you are getting nothing you haven't always received, but less of it at the same cost. As you know, chicken skewers will no longer be served at 'Ohana. Instead, we will simply move the chicken wings we served as an appetizer to part of the entree, in hopes people won't notice.

As you can probably tell by the tone of this message, our guests feedback means absolutely nothing to us. Please know that your comments are not being read by anyone else, and your email was deleted before my secretary finished writing this email.

Again, we don't care what you think. If you don't show up for your reservation, we're confident someone else will. After all, we have NO intentions of making these changes public knowledge, as if we did, we know many people would cancel. Thankfully for us, not everybody does their homework.

Sincerely,

Someone who gets paid to pretend Disney cares about it's guests.

Seriously, what a load of crap. Guest feedback??? Yeah, I'm sure many guests requested they remove the chicken skewers.

"Our goal is to provide new and unique items", which is why we're replacing the chicken skewers with the chicken wings they've always served.

Maybe it's just me, but I find these responses incredibly insulting. They're not even an attempt to take anyone seriously.

We ate there tonight and they had chicken, pork, steak and shrimp skewers. They also had bread, salad , noodles, vegetables, dumplings and wings. Dessert was pineapple /coconut bread pudding with Carmel banana sauce and chocolate brownie with marshmallow and m&ms.

It's obviously a generic response, yeah. But I expected as much. I've read tons of reviews over the years and dry chicken is something I've seen people mention frequently enough that it stood out. Along with people asking 'what can vegetarians eat here?' being another.

I really couldn't care less. It doesn't affect my choice to eat there either way. But I do think if they have seen enough complaints about the chicken in conjunction with new vegetarian wraps (which sound bizarre to me) that I could see what they're doing, considering they do have poultry on the menu with the wings.

If that were the case, then they'd have to close Sci Fi Dine In based on "guest feedback". I never found a problem with the chicken or turkey. Regardless, if there was an issue with it, fix it, don't just remove it from the menu.

Odd analogy, but this reminds me of the falling rocks on Thunder Mountain. Can't get it to work right? Just put a tarp over it. Don't bother trying to fix it.

I don't believe for 1 second this has ANYTHING to do with guest feedback. It has to do with money, and how they can make more of it.

We will just have to disagree. Your perception is much different than mine on most things Disney related it seems.

I've never had bad chicken there either, but I've seen lots of complaints about it, along with people telling vegetarians it's a pretty expensive meal for noodles and salad.

I don't keep up with Sci Fi since we didn't enjoy our meal there on our first trip, but I'm actually amazed at the amount of people that recommend it... Enough so that we are giving it another try this trip.

My perception of Disney is that it once was a wonderful company that truly cared about the guests experience. Now, it's a very wisely run company from a business stand point, but not one that is overly concerned with the guest experience. Not to say I don't still love WDW. I still think it's a fantastic place. But heck yeah, there is most certainly, in my opinion, room for improvement.

If I was a vegetarian, I just wouldn't go there.

I've been to Sci Fi many times. We love the atmosphere, but the food is passable at best. Not awful, just nothing special. However, I've read equal amounts of bad comments as good comments. My point being, Disney claiming the chicken was removed due to guest feedback is a weak excuse.

Another odd analogy would be Stitch's Great Escape. What would you say is the percentage of people that actually enjoy that attraction? Maybe 10%? If guest feedback is so important, then why haven't they gutted that for something else?

I'm just saying, the guest feedback excuse would be more believable, if it applied to everything across the board.

Right. Like I said, our perceptions as a whole are different. Neither one of us know what they actually receive in regards to feedback via email since the DIS is such a small percentage of guests.

Just an educated guess, but I imagine there is a bit of a cost and efficiency difference when changing out a menu item vs an entire ride lol.

There are also a lot of restaurants where the atmosphere is great and the food is so so. I don't keep up with enough other menus to know about changes aside from them tweaking the BOG menu awhile ago. I'm sure if they have a downfall in revenue they'll consider bringing them back.

We were there a couple of days ago and had the same. In addition I was given a bowl of veggies and tofu since I won't eat the meat or seafood. It was the best meal of our trip. Perhaps they may keep the chicken skewers? It does seem like an odd choice to remove the chicken. But I guess when comparing the two "white" meats, pork won out at the Hawaiian restaurant.

For the record, here was the reply I got:

This is very disappointing. This restaurant has been a favorite of family members for years and was always a fun night. With the new removal of the chicken, this leaves no poultry selection, and that is all some of the family was interested in from the "meat spear" offerings.
It will be very sad to lose this restaurant from the list of "must-dos" on our trips to Disney. We are hoping they will rethink this decision.

Anyone who is upset PLEASE send a letter to wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

I sent a letter in begging them to reconsider their decision and got a response from them and the CM said he would send my response to the manager.

The more people that send notes, the better!

I sent one as well and received this response within a few days:
