is it ok to give dogs a ham bone?

Wow, thanks for all the info. More things to add to the "do not give" list.

Looks like it is time for summer soup!

So rawhide is okay now, as long as it's American? I am forever trying to find things for my pups to chew on, but I can't keep up with what's okay and what's not.

Mine ate half a box of Entemanns Chocolate Covered Donuts out of the bottom shelf in my pantry. :lmao:It went by without incident, however we think we know the culprit.

:rotfl::rotfl: My dog did the very same thing a few weeks ago but it was an entire box. It did not sit very well with her. :scared:

My dad lost a very expensive hunting dog this way.. :( Someone gave him a ham bone, it splintered, tore at his insides all the way down and resulted in such severe internal bleeding he couldn't be saved..:sad2:

So my vote would be no..

Please do not! My dog got very, very sick off of a ham bone. She almost died. There is something in the bone (the marrow?) that is dangerous for them to eat. She went on antibiotics but she was so sick. She vomited, had the runs and had a fever (yes, dogs get fevers, I never knew). Since then, I NEVER give my dog ham bones.

After having my dog to the vet for eating 3 pork steaks off the counter :headache:, the vet informed us that pork is the worse thing for dogs.

It has something to do with the liver not metabolizing it well.

I never gave my dogs pork because I never saw any dog food made from it. Now I know why! Thanks.
